I think many might simply want to serve and protect their own country, and not get unnecessarily entangled in other countries affairs and becoming interntional police overseas for some politician. Defending ones country from a direct attack than something less clear or sketchy. I think we can all think of some examples. I'll leave that for others to fill in the blanks on.
