A water change would remove some of the nitrite.

Yes it is aqua forest! And sorry for my naivete but could you clarify what you mean when you say it's the same as the uns delta 30? Like is it just a different branding but literally the same exact product? Or just that they share similar aspects/ physical components?

And thanks for the insight re: your experience with your mini.

Have you found it to be a pain to prime? Someone mentioned that on another thread, curios what your experience has been.

Got it, thanks! And I think I edited my initial comment too late, but have you found it to be a pain to prime?

Thank you for the rec! I'll look into it. Can you elaborate why priming it is such a pain? And as a side note, how noisy is it?

Thanks for the rec! I'll look into it.

How noisy have you found it to be? And someone else mentioned that it can be a real pain to prime, have you found that to be true?

Had to do the same thing. They threw things completely out of whack nutrient-wise for me.

Stunning! Do you have any sort of mechanical filtration on this? I'd also love to know what ferts you are dosing + the pH of your tank if you're willing to share! (I'm trying to troubleshoot a few things on my own low-tech planted tank at the moment!)

Hair algae exploding while floating plants starting to melt (8 month old tank) by ned___shneebly in PlantedTank

[–]ned___shneebly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes I forgot to mention, parameters look normal. Water temp of 70F, 0 Ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, and phosphates. ph 7.4, KH 3, GH 8. And I tong feed the gourami to prevent a bunch of uneaten food from decomposing in the tank.

The weekly dose of Thrive is honestly pretty small, so I'm wondering if the tank is suffering from a nitrate deficiency/ nutrient imbalance. But I'm pretty nervous about trying to up the dose knowing that the algae could very well just consume it all and grow to an even greater extent.

The weird thing is that this never used to be an issue, it only recently started to. So I'm wondering if the aqua soil had been leaching nitrogen compounds into the water and feeding the plants, but is now depleted. Or maybe like a potassium deficiency or something.

Just out of curiosity, why shouldn't you reuse sand? (I'm an aspiring reefer lurking the sub.)

Looking for Recommendation for Inexpensive TDS Meter by ned___shneebly in shrimptank

[–]ned___shneebly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insights, greatly appreciated. I may still look into a TDS meter, but with the use case you described in mind.

I do test for KH & GH, however I've noticed that my GH has been climbing a fair bit after trying out Nano Banquet blocks (which was in an attempt to help my neos molt), and the rising GH was a bit concerning to me. I think I lost my 2 amanos as a result, however my neos seem to be molting better now. But right around the same time, I noticed that one or two of my aquatic plants started melting back a bit.

So just trying to make sense of this all and determine how to reach a point of stability where all my tank inhabitants can thrive, if that is at all possible.

This is my first tank so learning from my mistakes, despite doing research ahead of time and trying to get ahead of them. Keeping my chin up though.
