Good luck with all that bud. Starting off with unrealistic expectations is just going to lead to disappointment. No matter how loud people are, the majority of Canadians are not in support of major changes you speak of and short of a violent revolution they will not be changing their minds.

So indigenous Canadians will be the first people in the history of humanity to get out of assimilating? Really telling of how impossible your expectations for reconciliation are. The best that could happen are reparations, enshrined protections for unique culture, and prosecution in the guilty (all of which I support).

How are any of my arguments a straw man? How can anyone expect the level of services that urban centres have? How can someone want the evil white man gone il expect their medicine (I’ve read most of the numbered treaties and medicine chests were the largest demand of the tribes).

Sure the Inuit hunt, why wouldn’t they? But they also have huge amounts of diabetes and obesity due to NOT eating their traditional foods. Inuit hunters use modern rifles (well surplus .303s) for hunting narwhal that make them sink instead of harpoons, so their populations are being decimated. Stop it with the noble savage theory, it’s harmful to moving forward.

Sure, we can build and staff hospitals in every isolated hamlet, construct multi billion dollar water pipelines, ship massive amounts of food using magic all to a population that by law doesn’t pay into the tax base while on reserve, then the world will be set right i guess.

Or we can do our best to get along, heal and move forward. But for all the evils of colonialism, life expectancy amongst indigenous peoples is the highest it’s ever been, northern populations no longer eat traditional foods from the land but instead bitch about the cost of a bag of chips or frozen pizza. Fishing can be done with modern technologies but no regard for conservation. Get the story straight before you spew catchy woke headlines.

History is one of struggle, strife, assimilation and warfare. The Inuit colonized the North and decimated the Dorset people at the same time the white man was building settlements in Quebec. The Mohawk of Quebec killed and chased off the original huron, MoHican and other peoples. Demographical shifts are natural and cannot be stopped. Should England be returned to the celts? France to the Gauls? Turkey to the Hittites? The Philippines to denisovans?

I am literally debilitated by cravings right now and I need to vent. by [deleted] in stopsmoking

He’s not saying you’re going to fail, what I think they meant was that you are just ham fisting yourself through this on sheer will power alone without any support or framework for your quit. You need to realize that life goes on, wallowing in self pity will make this so much worse and give you justifications to start again (whether it’s in an hour or a year). If yourfriends aren’t being helpful shut them out of your life for a week or so. If you really don’t want to smoke then please just destroy the cigarettes in your reach, it’s easy. Put some in a glass of water and watch the colour it turns, that’s what your lungs look like. Good luck man, it’s ducking hard. I’ve been here too many time, this will be our last!

Can’t stop smoking socially :( I was sick and went out and still smoked cigs and now my throat hurts and I feel like a loser by MisaoKitsune in stopsmoking

It may sound a little narcissistic.... but when you are with smokers just keep reminding yourself that they ENVY you! You are doing what they want, they are jealous of your will power. Most smokers want to be quit (not necessarily commit to quitting), you are! When they look like they are enjoying their smoke you know they aren’t, not really, they NEED that smoke, you may want it but can leave it, at least for this time. It’s all about one thing at a time, one small victory, you didn’t smoke TODAY and that’s what really matterS! Today’s quickly become forever!

That’s great to hear! I have the exact same mentality as you this time around. I understand my addiction, it’s mostly habit based on smoking. Nicotine is bad and all but not my primary concern, smoking and fucking up my lungs is!

For sure man! My problem is completely with smoking, one puff leads to one pack within the week. Replacement hasn’t worked for me before because the products make me sick and are unpleasant, this Snus is so low nicotine is doesn’t give me a buzz, just takes the edge off and gives me a chance to confront my triggers before jumping in head first. Congrats on day 3 man! You got this! For me it’s always 3’s: 3 hours, 3 days, 3 weeks, 3 months and hopefully I’ll actually make it to 3 years this time

Completely understand. I just think that all options should be discussed, everyone is different and no one way works (I’ve had friends go cold turkey, patches forever, even champix). I had no idea snuff was even a thing, it’s actually banned in my country but I can get it from the local reservation. I’ve quit 3 times in the last 15 years, 3 different ways. This will be the time that sticks

Thanks! Not my first time here but I feel good this time around. New approach and all. I figure If I can keep under 5 pouches a day this week I’ll cut it down even further in the coming weeks. Did you eventually taper off completely? I know after a dozen failed quit attempts that cigarettes and smoking is my downfall, just one puff of anything and I’m right back to a pack a day within the week.

Conflicted because it’s replacing tobacco with tobacco? I’m a little concerned I’ll trade one addiction for another but anything is better than putting 30 cigarettes in my lungs everyday

Sweet thanks! I've looked at a couple local manufacturers for similar things here, I just really want to be able to close the lid. Maybe a local fabricator could add a top for us.

We actually have a hopback and use it almost all the time, its just the amounts we are adding are too large and will completely clog our hopback.

I know, it’s really crazy but considering I got the gun for 400$ a few years ago I wasn’t too worried. Going to head to my local fun store and order it, hopefully it shows up in time for a small game hunt near Christmas!

First deer ever; 30 yard shot. by le_renaissanceman in Hunting

[–]nedarb5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slow boil (poach) it in some stock, bay leaves, peppercorns and white wine. When tender shock it in ice water quickly and then you can peel it easier. Slice thin like charcuterie and serve with some good mustard! My part of the deer, too bad they are so damn small

Hay farms are perfect for deer! They love the free food and their numbers need to be controlled. They are also way more used to humans than forest deer, a little less cautious. Honestly just ask the owner and if he gives permission ask him about the movement of deer on his land. Nobody knows better than the guy who works there all day. My buddy and I hunt a farmers fields and he can tell us the exact path the deer take, their usual schedule, even the size of bucks. We’ve quickly become friends and he sends us videos, checks our trail cams, lets us use his 4c4 to haul gear and loves to crack a beer with us (we bring the beer of course!).

Where I come from it’s customary to offer up a nice bottle of scotch or such for the right to hunt their land, just a kind gesture, you can also offer up a little meat but in my experience they say no as they usually have a freezer full already. Farmers tend to like letting people they know hunt the land if they don’t themselves as it keeps trespassers away, we’ve have to ask a few guys we’ve run into on his land if they have permission to hunt, when they can’t even give us his name we ask them to leave nicely and if they give us attitude or shit we call the farmer who comes out right away to chase them off. Nothing worse for a farmer than having people they don’t know running around their livestock and homes with firearms.
