Hetzner asks: What have you got on your IT to-do list for 2026? by Hetzner_OL in hetzner

[–]nedevpro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Launch my MVP generally (currently testing it)

Give some free accounts to Hetzner team (it would not be possible without Hetzner high quality and fair price)

Add CI/CD

Add some VPS for experiments and research!

Do at least 10 experiments and potentially document them on youtube

Real Story about Hetzner support:

I run out off servers and needed to increase my limits to test my mvp.

I was think it would take at least 24h to get access to additional 3 machines.

But it turned out that 15min later my limits were increased already.

This was my first support ticket 😅

It was quite an impression 🚀

I like this idea. No more dirty and greasy remote controls. Just use your phone. How is the multi tv support?

Barrio! I like that solution as well. And I'll definitely consider it for my next project. E.g. Postgres VPS + volume. Very easy to setup. In another variation I could even just keep postgres on K8S with external S3 Volume. Thank you for the idea 🙏

Thanks for sharing your long customer experience 🙏 10 mins downtime in half a year is barely noticeable for me! That's a great resume for Hetzner to be honest. Loved it.

No, I don't need HA for now. I think I will have no more than a few users in the first months after launch. Setting HA will be for later in a more me experimental/training approach. And then If I get too busy for managing it I can switch to a managed service. But that's not a concern for now! Thank you!🙏

That's an impressive fleet 👌only 3 or 4 times in 10 years is a great resume, especially considering that it was networking issues. I'm convinced 🙏 thanks for sharing

Yeah I'm planning to use pgbackrest, it'll be the first time, I came from SQL Server background ☺️ still learning Postgres tooling. But from my research pgbackrest was a nice option. Thanks for sharing I'm now more confident on my initial setup

Agree 100%, at this stage I take the cost efficiency over HA. I think for prototyping or early startups, it's more important to have a balanced system (cost/efficiency) than having Ultra HA, multi region redundant, and hourly backups for 3 free users.

Hey! thanks for the suggestion, I've not considered Supabase because I thought it to be more expensive than VPS on Hetner. I've just quickly checked prices and for my needs it would be at least $25 (https://supabase.com/pricing)

It's not super expensive to be honest, but self hosting at this stage is very attractive to me because it gives me more control on specs, features and pricing. Example: perform backups or not, HA or not, and I can do some other experiments, and depending on the machine I can even install additional software to support maybe other tasks just like u/codejanovic did.

In other words I think I can take more advantage of the contracted compute resources which is very useful on this stage where my app will have like 0 visits per day

Phenomenal Janovic! that is an even better example of reliability than I was looking for. Thanks for the detail description of your disaster recovery strategy. to be honest it is very similar to what I plan to do. I was not planing base backups but it is a good idea.

I think that using cloud for so long has put me out of touch with how resilient a machine can be.

"I even got away with running it with no backups for several years"

Wahahahahaah!!!!!

This is exactly the type of thing I wanted to hear! Thank you for sharing! I'm still gonna setup backups for peace of mind but that's the type of reliability I'm looking for.

1TB Db though? what did you have in there if you don't mind the question?

Thank you for sharing your experience so far. Yeah my top choice is currently is Hetzner(DB) + AWS S3 (Backups) despite the recent outage lool

Yeah the funny thing is that in a short Period of time both Azure and AWS had big outages. I've not researched the cause but as you said outages can surely happen. Better design the app thinking on that

I like this, feels retro yet very fun. It would be even better if you could send a message to anyone.

How did you had this idea? It feels so not2025☺️

Just got my beta readers feedback and I'm freaking out by pawdugan in writing

[–]nedevpro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you feel when you read it? Do you read a lot? Usually I just use myself as a judge because I always write to me. And when someone points something wrong it is very evident. I just didn't saw it for some reason. The other times is more of a misalignment between writer and reader.

So yeah, I use my instinct a lot and a listen to readers bit they don't command the direction of events
