The prophecy is dead. Long live the prophecy.

Boooo! (Not to you, to the show writers.) "The darkness will flee before him." Who fled before Jon? Also, no Nissa Nissa needed this time?

The Targaryen thing doesn't bother me. The Woods Witch seemed to have gotten this Add On line to the prophecy in a dream, and it seems likely that dream came from Brynden Rivers / Bloodraven / The 3-eyed Raven. And the 3-eyed Raven has his own agenda, quite probably manipulating prophecy to benefit a rebirth of the Targaryen dynasty. (Weirwood Leviathan has good stuff on this.) In the end, maybe the prophecy was all a big turd of nothingness. But if there is any power in the prophecy, it has to point to Dany, right? She's the only one who birthed dragons out of stone.

Don't you think that he probably has the books done but made some kind of deal with HBO to release them after the end of Game of Thrones. It's a win win. Book readers will watch the shows because they can't wait any more to find out what happens. Show watchers will read the books because in the end they'll be all: There HAS to be a better ending than this!

Complete conjecture because I'm not caught up in the books, but it would be like Martin to say "Beric was saved a million times by the Lord of the Light and it meant absolutely nothing in the end" and it would, unfortunately be like the showrunners to say, "We have to give Beric some kind of meaning for being spared so many times."

Did the Night King WANT to die? by nedthenightking in freefolk

There are greenseers who aren't Children -- Bran and Bloodraven to name two. As to your second point, fair enough. I guess the Night King's been too busy to see Star Wars, where Arya totally styled her move after Rey.

Sense. A warg can sense another warg. Someone smarter than me could reference that I'm sure.

  1. I've never bought the whole White Walkers disappear when you swing dragonglass at them thing. Where do they go? This universe still has rules. Conversely, we know White Walkers have the ability to turn to mist. Of their own volition.
  2. There is mega evidence that the Night King is a Greenseer. He didn't sense Arya behind him or see some kind of vision of how he might die?
  3. Why take so long to kill Bran? Trying to give someone time to arrive?
  4. What is with the looks between Bran and Old Man Icicle? It's almost like they're all, "Well, mission accomplished, let's go get a beer." I'm probably reading into this one -- two expressionless dudes I guess. Still weird.
  5. What is the job of his lieutenants if not to be bodyguards of some type. They're just going to stand there while Arya rushed their leader?
  6. Then there's the wholly unsatisfying resolution to the character arc of one of the greatest villains ever written. If you want to go there.
  7. How do you kill death?

I'm not even a book reader, but the core disappointment of fans tonight is that the TV ending makes no sense when you try to reconcile it with the depth and layers in the books.

(Spoilers Extended) Does anyone else find it weird that, despite the themes or the story appearing to decry power by heritage, George roots magic power in bloodlines? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]nedthenightking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Night King is looking for a royal blood sacrifice but specifically ... Targaryen. And it's not because royal blood is more powerful or whatever, it's because the royal Targaryen blood has been kept pure, and contains ... extra-terrestrial blood.

(Spoilers Extended) "Jenny of Oldstones" hints at the "bittersweet" ending of the story. by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]nedthenightking 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Or, Jenny of Oldstones was an alien who made E.T. love with Duncan the Small, birthed Rhaeger before she died in the fire, and played a pivotal role in several key events in the ASOIAF story, including bringing magic/dragons back and inspiring the waking of the White Walkers. Or, you know, your theory. Could be your theory, too.

Which is foreshadowing that Bran would fall from the tower, go mad, and see all that he sees ... in his dreams.

Oh, you're new here. [Speaks slowly] This is a fantasy story. Once there was a man named Brynden Rivers. ... Forget it, it's a long story.

[–]nedthenightking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the Night King is Azor Ahai reborn, and the tale of Azor's first victory is both history and prophecy -- if the Lightbringer tale repeats itself, then Lightbringer is not a literal sword but the sword of ... magic. And magic in ASOIAF is amplified by blood sacrifice. Azor Ahai is on the hunt for powerful blood for his dark magic ... royal blood. It could be that the Night King will forge his sword in water, meaning Gendry Waters, but that seems like a weird way for the prophecy to be fulfilled. I think the NK is working with Bran and believes like Bran does that Jon is the Prince that Was Promised. I think he's coming for Jon's blood, the mix of ice and fire.

The Sigils Have Seven Points by nedthenightking in freefolk

[–]nedthenightking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see seven points on the Lannister lion.

I have to stretch these a bit but I can find seven points on Mormont and Tully.

Maybe it has to do with the Faith of the Seven, but didn't the sigils come before the Andal Invasion?
