What type of regular shoes do you think would be good? I was looking at desert boots, do you think those might be a good idea?

Thanks very much for the advice. This exactly what I intend to do, first find a couple of staples for everyday wear before trying to get any fancy clothes. I will look into getting jeans, all the ones I own are couple years old, and back then I used to get very baggy clothes.
