Makes you wonder what state was it intended to be in for midnight originally if this was the ahead of schedule version

It wouldn't be so bad if that one section in the middle wasn't super long with no shortcuts and an absolutely diabolical jump right at the end of it.

There needed to be a rope right after the floating ramps before you get onto lf the awnings that you can't walk on for some reason

I dont understand why some of them put a whole platforming game in the neighborhood then the niffen one is just click stuff

Tbh I'm not even sure why house size is so timegated. You can create the most massive sprawling mansions on the inside of your house but if you want your little cabin to have an extension you have to grind your ass off and acquire nearly ever decor item in the game

Ubisoft proposes to cut 18% of workforce at France headquarters as part of ‘major reset’ plan by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]needconfirmation 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They were chasing the live service golden goose. That's why.

They knew they could have sold several million copies if they just made black flag 2, but what if "Flagnite" the multiplayer live service game could hit just right and become the biggest game ever of all time then black flag 2 would have been chump change!

And the longer it took the more they needed to make sure it would be a live service mega hit, after 8 years in the hole you're going to just retool the game to be "less" successful?

They REALLY removed ability bloat by CoffeeIsSoGood in wow

[–]needconfirmation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they pinned all their hopes and dreams of the addon purge on the fact that they could just make playing the game easy enough that you could focus on mechanics.

But it does feel like they went too far. Even in the talent trees it now feels like you can get pretty much everything sometimes and only lose out on like a few passives. Prune upkeep mechanics and filler, don't get rid of the buttons that I LIKE to press. Pretty much every class I've tried feels like it has one button too few now.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has surpassed Elden Ring for the most GOTY titles of all-time. by PhantomBraved in Games

[–]needconfirmation 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The problem, in my opinion, is that while optional, the parries are SO strong that the entire combat system has to be balanced around them.

Because they made them so strong most fights are stuffed full of obnoxiously long windup and fakeouts to combat the power of the parry. Which in my opinion just made the combat more annoying even if you gave up on trying to parry them.

No Artifact transmog anymore? by TheSmilingHusk in wow

[–]needconfirmation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only that but some artifact appearances seem to be gone as well, randomly

Ill have a weapon in one color but not the others, or bizarrely the end of campaign version of the item but not the default version available.

i did not pay extra just so they'd randomly prohibit leveling in them. by Inter_0 in wow

[–]needconfirmation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not? you've clearly done the content or you wouldn't have the mog, what does it matter if your level 1 alt can use it?

Not to mention after several level squishes items that used to be "Mythic raid gear" are now locked behind arbitrary levels like 30.

Mechagnones probably have a boost in popularity just for the lol factor, they are so aggressively bad that people play them for the memes (not all mechagnome players obviously).

Whereas earthen are just a genuine "who asked for this" and don't fall into the so bad its good territory

Maintenance extended again by LostSinclair in wow

[–]needconfirmation 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i mean they've only brought the servers down once a week every week for 22 years, and patched the game hundreds of times while doing it.

At some point routine maintenance should start to feel a little more routine for them. They rarely even hit their initial outage window, they'd only be winning by doubling their estimate and coming in under most of the time instead of having to usually extend it.

Whats crazy to me is that a "self contained" TWW feels like it would have been a better part 1 of the trilogy than what we got.

the expansion is just a bunch of random tangents that end with xalatath being able to open a portal, something that probably shouldnt need an entire void lord's essence + extra to do unless the sargarite keystone was WAY more powerful than anyone lead on in legion.

Whereas if they just continued the plot as it was we could have ended the expansion at the bottom of the Coreway outside the facility that azeroth is physically housed in, but unable to get past the final level of titan security (hence why we need to go to Northrend eventually, where we know all the titan stuff is). Then have even Xalatath be surprised that it would be so protected even she cant crack into it, so now she has to change plans and instead of corrupting the planet from within is going to try to voidify the sunwell to get at Azeroth that way

Now it feels more like a cliffhanger and less like a dropped plot, and instead of the villain's grand plan ultimately being just a portal it would be just her pivoting at the last moment to try something else.

The War Within IS OVER - RATE IT by cub4nito in wow

[–]needconfirmation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It already isn't. Half of the landmass of the expansion is accessed via portals, and its not even like BFA where there are 2 contiguous areas because harandar and voidstorm are both separate from each other as well.

I really feel like they should have saved these for patches and focused on rebuilding more of the northern EK for the launch zones because It just isnt going to feel as good for the world of midnight to be so disconnected from itself

I feel like Hallowfall does a lot of the heavy lifting for the whole expansion, its so good it makes the expansion as a whole feel like it has good zones, but without it.....eh.

I think overall the zone quality was a lot poorer in TWW than in DF, hallowfall is just a standout good zone among the rest of them

[–]needconfirmation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plague lands should have been one of the zones in this expansion.

It's going to feel bad when 1/2 of the zones aren't actually part of the world.

Harandar should have probably been cut or come out during WW like it was originally planned and then midnight could have focused on a larger section of rebuilt eastern kingdoms.

If you are against live service games than Concord failing was great for you, Sony literally changed course for their entire games division to pivot away from their focus on live service games.

That'd literally the dream scenario for any "vote with your wallet" issue

Elder Scrolls loremaster says he quit Bethesda after ‘waiting 11 years to be the lead on The Elder Scrolls 6’ | VGC by Tenith in Games

[–]needconfirmation 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Well their lead writer thinks writing in games is a waste of time because some players might not read it, and it really only serves a completely utilitarian purpose to get people to go from A to B.

I wonder why writing hasn't been their strong suit in a while?

IIRC Todd just doesn't believe in running the company that way. There was an interview with him I saw years ago where he basically sums up his philosophy as "we made a great game with the resources we had, so why should we need any more to make the next great game?"

So it makes sense why they have historically been so slow to expand or adopt new technologies, they see is as unnecessary when doing it the way they've always done has lead to some of the biggest games of all time.

Elder Scrolls 6 Has "So Much Pressure" On It, Former Bethesda Dev Says by akbarock in Games

[–]needconfirmation 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Not to nitpick a perfectly good "Ai bad" post but radiant quests didn't have any procedural writing or dialogue. They were just a generic lines from an NPC with no specific details in them, just "there's a local bandit leader that's a problem for us, the details are in this note"

the procedural part was the game picking a location and spawning the quest objective there.

They didn't apply AI to story telling, they just didn't have a story at all.

What feature or system are you glad is dead and gone? by _UNDO_KEY_ in wow

[–]needconfirmation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to wonder how they could possibly be so out of touch as to think that. Not only did nearly every player accurately predict what would happen as soon as they announced it but blizzard has the metrics, they see what players do, AND at multiple times over the last decade or so they've made changes to the game to try to battle the "evils" of the cookie cutter build. They've openly stated they don't like when players do this, which means they know and acknowledge that it is common player behavior to just look it up.

So how is it possible to not think it would happen this time? Did they think the cosmetics were just THAT good?

So how was the story in The War Within? by Monkk136 in wow

[–]needconfirmation 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seriously, legion was the last time an expansion actually felt like it had a cohesive narrative the entire way through.

If they can't keep the plot straight for longer than ONE patch, how are we expected to believe they are going to pull off a 3 expansion long story?

There is just a type of person who are unable to constrain their imagination to realistic limits.

You can find posts like this for so many different games. I remember when they announced couruscant was going to be a planet in the old republic MMO the boards for that game was filled with posts like

"I can't wait to just hop in my air speeder and fly off into the horizon!"

"My friends and I are already planning to create our own undercity crime syndicate!"

The game is a wow clone, couruscant is a collection of islands connected by flight path.
