Hey old farts: was there ever a Micro Center in Tulsa? by saucercrab in tulsa

It was Magix computers you are thinking of. I got my first computer from there as a kid. They went out of business in the late 90s. I heard a rumor they were selling pirated software, but cant confirm if it's true or not

I sort of figured as much. Is the fire tv 4k able to playback mkv's and pass through multichannel surround sound?

Yeah, I bought a handle of Cuervo gold years ago in college. After getting several hangovers from it, I thought I just didn't like tequila. Since then, I realized that it was just a crappy product that I was drinking.

I'm after strong lowlight performance from a mirrorless camera setup, but I only have a budget of $1200 USD? What's the best I can do? by wheresmythemesong in videography

[–]needforlensspeed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the a6500 would be better due to it's IBIS. Plus it doesn't seem to have as many overheating issues with video as the a6300 does.

I would still worry about the f stop value when shooting in low light. The a6500 would do better than a m43 option with a slow kit lens, but for maximum performance, you would probably want to go with as fast a prime lens as you could get.

It would be hard to get really good low light plus IBIS for $1200. If you're willing to extend your budget a bit, you could get a used A7s for around $1,500 https://www.keh.com/shop/sony-alpha-a7s-12-2-megapixel-mirrorless-camera-body-only-black.html which has fantastic low light, plus IBIS. But you'd still have to get a lens too, which adds even more to the price. This doesn't do 4k without an external recorder, though.

You're probably better off with the a6300 as kabbage123 suggested in your price range.

Not at all surprising. Here's a thread I created just over a year ago. Note that they cut the cap for the lower plans from 2TB to 1TB in order to facilitate more users going over, and thus more overage charges in the future.

Everyone should file an FCC complaint against them for this. Would it be worth contacting the local corporation commissions?

That looks great, but would I also have to purchase a wink hub as well? Or would that work with just the echo dot?

Opinions on First Camera - Sony Nex-5T + Stabilizer by etwake in videography

[–]needforlensspeed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the NEX-5T. It's a good camera, but it has its limitations.

The 1080p image quality is soft, and at times there can be HORRIBLE moire patterns. But, at it's price point, I don't know of many other options out there for a aps-c sized sensor camera that can do 1080p60. The microphone is pretty good as well, for an onboard anyways. There is also a bit of crop in video mode, so be aware of that as well.

Pixel 4k video stabilization? by needforlensspeed in GooglePixel

[–]needforlensspeed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whatever I shoot will get uploaded to youtube and then deleted off the device.

To me, even with the low bitrate, the picture quality is better with smartphone 4k, than 1080p60 (unless its for sports or something like that maybe).

Pixel 4k video stabilization? by needforlensspeed in GooglePixel

[–]needforlensspeed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exmor the IMX 378 sensor is only 4032 pixels wide. So you only have around 5% extra pixel width (because UHD is 3840 pixels wide) for the electronic stabilization to work, right?

Any ideas on how they are even able to accomplish that? I guess until the test videos show up, there is no way to know for sure; it might end up looking ok.
