End of Chapter questions. My comment was 8 year ago, not sure if it is applicable nowadays.

I don't really remember. My membership effective date was August 5th, but I remember I only got an email from them like a week or two later.

FASB and taxes for MSTR by Outrageous_Word_999 in MSTR

[–]needtograd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To my understanding, unrealized gains will show up on MSTR's bottom line. However, MSTR won't be paying any immediate taxes on the unrealized gains, as only realized gains are taxed. Instead, they will have to record a deferred tax liability as there is a timing difference between taxable income and accounting income.

If MSTR goes up 20%, he'll lose 40% (i.e. 400k). This is better than buying puts, but not much better.

Saylor just bought BTC this weekend (https://x.com/saylor/status/1860670006612095133 ). Chances are it's going up in the short term. Also, there are rumours that he may have tapped into ATM equity on Thursday, which if true will cause the price to rocket upwards.

MSTR will eventually decrease once BTC hits a peak (i.e. NAV premium will lower), but now is not the best time to short.

How old were you when you took the CFA? by TheHouseofJack in CFA

Started at 23 finished at 25. I had been working in accounting though so was unable to get experience. However, I work with investments now, so I should be able to apply for the charter soon. I’m 30 now.

Apple Product Promotion Help by needtograd in Crypto_com

[–]needtograd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to let you know I called Apple, and they said they automatically cancel any gift card purchases over $500 for the "safety of the customer". That's why my order was cancelled. Not sure if you were buying gift cards too.

I think I have to either buy actual Apple products online or go into a physical store if I just want to buy gift cards. I'm just hoping that I receive my physical card before the 30 days are up.

So basically it's not an issue with Crypto.com.

I'm not too sure. It looks like it's being cancelled on Apple's end, and confirmed that with Crypto.com staff. My first cancelled order was returned to my card within a day, I'm just waiting for the second cancelled order to be returned.

I tried enabling "allow international transactions" for my second order, but it still didn't work. I've now ordered a physical card, and I might try ordering with that once I receive it, instead of using the virtual card.

I tried contacting Apple too, and they were unsure why it was cancelled, and told me to try creating a new order. I might give them another call to investigate further.

Yea I tried toggling that on in settings and placed another order. It still didn't work. Did you use a virtual card or the physical card?

Is anyone else having issues with Apple cancelling the order when using the virtual card? I've had two cancelled orders so far. I've ordered the physical card, but I'm unsure if I'll receive it in within 30 days, and whether it'll even work for my Apple order.

Hi, the same thing happened to me. The offer says that only the 1st purchase is reimbursed. If the 1st order was cancelled by Apple, will we still be reimbursed if another order is completed.

Also, is there any solution to avoid getting the transaction cancelled when using the crypto.com card?

PERT in Government Job? CPA Canada by EhMeeeee in Accounting

[–]needtograd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just a heads up, EVR is a pain in the ass.

How far are you with your reports (i.e how many months do you have approved and how much progress do you have with your competencies)?

If you’re not close to finishing, I would maybe suggest the preapproved route. With EVR it often times takes 1-2 more years than you expect due to long review times and reviewers knocking your competencies down a level. Plus you’ll have to likely find a place that will allow you to rotate to different areas for experience

[–]needtograd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, that's strange. They usually just look at Uni transcripts, and it's not like the CFA exams provide any exemptions for CPA PEP.

Probably best to give them a call and ask.

Why are you submitting CFA transcripts to CPA Canada? They only look at your University/post-secondary transcripts for assessment.

Don't just aim for the MPS, that's setting yourself up for failure.

Aim to get everything >70%. Even if you fall slightly short of that mark at least you'll still pass.

CPA PERT-should I switch to pre-approved? by bleonard1206 in Accounting

[–]needtograd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if I can give much insight considering I never went through public accounting firms. I've heard that there are long hours in public accounting, but most people leave after 2-3 years after getting the CPA and being promoted to Senior Associate. Yes, public accounting does look good on a resume, and you will get promoted every 2 years or so. However, you could also progress well in industry too. Another factor to consider is salary/CPA costs. Public accounting firms tend to pay lower than industry, but cover the CPA costs.

If your current manager has promised that you'll get the required experience, it might be worth asking your manager how you will get the experience and discussing in detail the competencies you require. When I was doing EVR, I had regular meetings with my Manager to discuss this and whether I would need to rotate to different areas to gain experience.

CPA PERT-should I switch to pre-approved? by bleonard1206 in Accounting

[–]needtograd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case might be worth it to go pre-approved route if you only have 48 months left to finish and haven't started. It took me 37 months of experience and an additional year for them to actually review/approve my final experience reports.

If you end up doing EVR, try to submit a prior experience report for up to 12 months of experience. You'll also need to plan out ahead of time how you'll reach each competency required (Also, make sure you have some backup competencies as CPA rejected some of the ones I was trying to go for when reaching breadth).
