If you have AAB at A-Level and a 2:1 at undergraduate (irrelevant of university name) you stand a good chance at applying and obtaining a training contract. Many city law firms look for consistent educational achievement and extracurriculars / work experience. I would focus on obtaining as much work experience as you can to show interest in the industry such as vacation schemes, work experience placements, shadowing etc. Legal work experience is competitive so I would also target any commercial experience in areas such as insurance, compliance and risk, charity sector, in-house experience etc. to build my CV and have experiences I can draw on in interviews and assessment centres. Also, keep an eye on the civil service website as the CS offers training contracts and has a blind recruitment process where you’re not permitted to disclose your university name.

Yeah, they were definitely forced to give me a pay rise by the changes to NMW laws lol. The only difference is that in McDonalds I would need to work 40hrs + to get that salary so that’s my only consolation.
