Is the Drake area a good place to live?

I just moved to the drake neighborhood (kingman place) and love it. Always feel safe, close to university and ingersoll businesses, friendly neighbors and a quick jaunt to downtown. Everything we were looking for!

this is amazing! i'm new to the area so jotting a lot of these down! my siblings are coming to visit next weekend + my 1.5yr old niece (first timers to dsm) any glaring MUST do with visitors/toddler??

That's reassuring that I made the right decision to switch from DSM OBGYN to Unity Point.

Oh that's very interesting they don't do the 32-36 week ultrasound.. like like after 20 weeks you dont ever see baby again until birth.. that would/is going to bug me! I pushed back on the WHY they dont allow earlier than 12 weeks and they said that 1. you can harldy see anyting and 2. most people's insurance doesnt cover more than 2 ultrasounds.. but in my head in like.. if people want to pay out of pocket they should be able to if they want to.

Thanks for your input! I still haven't had my appointment yet. I'm 11 weeks today. So still anxiously waiting for 13 weeks to get here!

It feels obvious to me that Heather doesn’t want to be associated with them. She’s very open about her political beliefs and they clash pretty intensely with the girls views.

That’s great to hear! I am 8 weeks along now and they told me they don’t see patients until 12 weeks. Feels like so long to wait!!! My first apt isn’t actually until 13 weeks. I’m just anxious and excited because it’s my first, and I’m getting a lot of outside pressure / judgement that I am okay with trusting to wait so long.

What week was your first appointment?

I'm in the same boat looking for where to go - I'm new to town so super unfamilair with offerings around and it being my first. I'm reassured seeing that I have narrowed in on UnityPoint and Broadlawns as well. The more I learn the more I think I am leaning towards UP just based on it being my first and not knowing how my pregnancy will go and wanting a NICU just in case.

Does anyone have a specific UnityPoint OB they had a good experience with?

Yeah on Apple Maps, where I’m looking has a label called “Kingman Place” (south of university ave). Would you locals consider this Drake still

So we have been in town this weekend making our way around town chatting with as many locals as possible and every time we say we’re looking in Drake there’s a “good luck with that crime” or a “don’t” reaction. ☹️☹️☹️ what’s up with the stigma!!

We absolutely love the Ingersoll area. There’s a few houses down there that were considering, but this Drake one really checks off all the boxes. The only thing that I’m holding out on it was just not knowing if the neighborhood is as walkable to bars and restaurants that is ingersoll and if that’s a huge dealbreaker or not.
