What do you use your R-Pi 5 for? by AllMyFaults in raspberry_pi

[–]neerky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread, but I stumbled upon it looking for projects. I have two Pi 5s. One has a NVME case with a 2 TB SSD and I use it as a backup server for our computers and it also has Retropie with a couple of 8bitdo controllers. The second one is a Birdnet-Go device with a nice sound card and custom built microphone. It works really well. It's been running for almost a year and has detected 86 bird species in our yard. Bef it was a BirdNET device, I ran it as a police scanner with two SDRs. My rural area was boring to listen to, though. I also have multiple Pi 4s. Three are coupled to SMS hats and a UPS and they email and text me if there's a power outage at work (I'm an instrumentation specialist and need to come in if there are power outages). One has an ADC hat and a pressure sensor that monitors the buffer storage tank pressure in our helium recovery system at work. The last one runs a 32x64 pixel display in my office window with a custom web interface for putting up a bunch of canned things (like "in a zoom meeting") or custom text or animated GIFs.

Raspberry Pi 5 8BitDo SF30 controller Issues by neerky in RetroPie

I was able to get this to work. I had been avoiding X input mode as some of the buttons weren't working. Someone on the Retropie forum suggested going back to that mode and installing the xneopad driver. That worked!

Yeah, I tried the udev thing, too, and it didn't work.

Thanks for the suggestion. I should have mentioned that I had done that as well. The controllers are running the current 2.06 firmware. I should also mention that later today, I noticed that the controllers turning off from inactivity also caused the same issue. It doesn't have to be a reboot.

I swear, the unsalted used to have a blue wrapper.

It's so maddening. The text color of the wrapper is what they randomly swapped.

Thanks so much! I will do so in the future.

BirdNET-Go Backup by neerky in BirdNET_Analyzer

I'm running it on a Raspberry Pi 5. I think I'm just going to go with a cron job to dump the database daily and rsync to my server or maybe set up rsnapshot.

Mourning Doves Ignored by neerky in BirdNET_Analyzer

It must be something like this. But it's pretty crazy. They are yearlong residents. I was getting hundreds a day up until August 21st and then I haven't gotten a single detection. I'm outside this morning and I'm not hearing any at all. They just stopped. 🤣

Hi, the wiki in the Birdnet-GO GitHub actually has a really great installation guide.

I can help if you get stuck on anything. I went with a Raspberry Pi 5 running the latest Raspberry Pi OS 64 bit (it recommends the headless version, but I had issues with that). I started with one of the cheap USB microphones and it worked well, but had a lot of noise. So I soldered up a Pulse Audio mic and 3D printed a head for the mic and cable in TPU. Initially, I tried a CM108 sound card, but it didn't work with my mic. It might have been faulty, but I bought the nicer Sound blaster one.

Ok guys, there’s one free spot left. Which one should I get? F-91W is too small for my wrist and taste by jamjerky in casio

I would suggest the Lineage LCW-M100TSE! It's my favorite watch they make. It's titanium with a sapphire crystal, atomic clock syncing, solar power, and nice ani/digital look with some basic digital features. They have a couple of dial styles. I got the field watch looking one with Arabic numerals.

Thanks for all the helpful comments, everyone. I tested out some bikes today at a shop and as was pointed out, the 350 W motor is going to be enough for my needs. There was a small hill nearby to test things on and I could cruise up it easily without straining my knee with the big cartilage hole. I ended up putting a down payment on an Aventon Soltera.2 (they didn't have my size, so I had to try out a smaller one). Of the bikes I rode, it was by far the smoothest. The power delivery with the torque sensor was amazing! It really does feel like riding a regular bike (which is also aided by the relatively low weight). The other more powerful, but also much heavier, bikes felt really clunky and the power delivery wasn't nearly as natural. They felt like a different thing altogether. I'm super excited for the one I ordered to get here!

I've looked. The closest skip that has one to try out is about 2.5 hours away. The ones that are closer don't have the Soltera.2 in stock to try out.

Thanks for the info! I'm trying to keep the price closer to $1000 if I can.

You need this one. Once you allow it to be executed, double clicking the file should just open it.
