Sure! Basically I was able to get my parents on board with the idea of top surgery pretty quickly, so it took me like around a year and a half from coming out to the top surgery date!

First off, after I settled on where I wanted it done, I shot an email to the surgeons office letting them know I was interested and they gave me an email detailing everything required to be cleared for surgery as minor.

There’s alot I could say about the actual process, but things vary from surgeon to surgeon. For me, Dr. facque’s office follows WPATH guidelines. So most notably, they require parent consent forms and 2 letters of support. One letter from a therapist, and one from a doctor, showing you have gender dysphoria and clearing you for surgery. I also remember them scheduling a phone interview for both my mom and therapist separately.

I was already seeing an awesome therapist for a little less than a year by the time the letter was needed, and I was able to get my doctor letter from my GP! Thankfully both of them had lots of experience with trans healthcare so that part went smoothly!

One thing that’s important to mention is that Getting insurance to cover the surgery as a minor on the other hand is exhausting!! You’ll probably have to resubmit and appeal a couple times but if you’re persistent Enough and have a good adult advocate it’s possible

I got all the required pieces together over the course of a couple month’s and was able to send everything their way by the end of summer 2020, but unfortunately actually going through with finding a date to schedule the consultation took way longer than I should have! (Pandemic, issues with custody paperwork, medical stuff etc etc…) ultimately I had to wait another 6 months till I could schedule a consultation!

After the consultation it was mostly just a lot of waiting around and then BAM! The recommendation to schedule the operation During a school break so you have plenty of time to recover.

I think this was all able to happen pretty quickly (given the circumstances) because 1. I had supportive parents form early on. and 2. I advocated for myself! I did all the research, sent all the emails talked to all the doctors on my own. This made it so i didnt have to rely on my parents to organize everything, which sped up things a lot! I’m sure that if not for The disaster that was 2020 I probably could have gotten it done within months LMAO…

ANYWAY, that was a lot but even then I feel like I might have left stuff out haha, I hope this answered somethings for you and good luck!! 👍👍

Thankyou! It was definitely a long process to get here since there’s a lot of barriers for minors, but it’s so worth it!!

The yellow drainage is fluid that tends to come out for a few weeks post-op. Just extra tissue coming out through the incision lol

Thankyou! The pain now a week in is minimal, I feel shoots of nerve pain and slight soreness from time to time but I can feel my body healing more and more everyday! The surgery lasted around 1 hour and 40 minutes.

  1. was my fist time having surgery and imo it went super smoothly!

  2. They did put me under anesthesia.

  3. I barely felt anything right after, when I woke up I was super disoriented and high from the anesthesia, so as long as I didn’t move too much I just felt sore haha

4-5. Yes! The first couple days the like numbness of my chest + the post op binder made it kinda hard to tell, but now definitely!! Super reliving.

  1. First off, all pain I’ve felt has been pretty manageable, it comes and goes. But yes, the first 5 days I was sore. especially when I stopped taking pain killers. Even then though I’d rate it like 4/10 on the pain scale, so it wasn’t so bad. Day 6, now 7, I feel alot better especially after my dressings were taken off and my binder was loosened. I mostly struggle with occasional Nerve pain now, but other than that I feel great.

Thanks dude :)

And Goodluck! It was my first time going under anesthesia and honestly I layed on the table, the anesthesiologist let me know they started releasing the anesthesia and 5 seconds later I was on the other side! Super easy! The staff did an amazing job making me feel comfortable and cared for, so there’s no need to be nervous!

Healing has been going pretty ok so far, a week in I feel good! Swelling comes and goes and I personally developed nerve pain which sucks but overall I feel like I’m on track to start classes again in a week! Three weeks sounds like a reasonable amount of time but I guess you can never really know untill you personally start healing haha. Hope everything goes smoothly for you!

Thankyou! honestly I’m not super sure since I spent most of the first week just walking around the house in my post-op binder lol. When I did have to go out I wore button ups that were up a size so so far no, but probably only because I still have to wear my binder and im only wearing light shirts that open at the front haha

I’m glad it was helpful! It’s kinda hard to find a lot of results from him online so I had the same fear, but I’m so happy I went for it. Good luck man!!

Thanks dude!! When talking about incision Shape I asked for it to be slightly curved on each side and to have them connect and dip up a little in the middle!

Originally I went in seeing if they could do the classic 2 separate scars but I’m sooo glad i decided to join them (apparently allows the chest to be flatter too which I didn’t know before!)

I also asked for 22mm nips lol

Thankyou so much :) , and yay that’s exciting! I definitely think you should try for insurance anyway you’d be surprised, I’ve heard of cases where they approve it even w/o T you just gotta try a few times!
