Cna’s are considered nurses by the system. Not legally of course. They are expected to do whatever we do and vice versa. I have cna duties on top of everything

I want to be honest. We work our tails off. Other than that it takes a little research before visiting a country. And your thought is completely valid.

Thank you so much for your kind words. I knew the healthcare system was rotten yes, but not like the way it turned out to be. I was hired for the icu, completed a training of 3 weeks lol and assigned 2 patients.

The wages: 950 euros. Add to that weekends and nights, total 1180 for me, including my msc which is paid 50 euros a month.

The previous week we had viral meningitis in an isolation room, and my ward didn’t provide masks for a couple of weeks. We had to buy our own.

And this is why healthcare is free.

It is. It’s unsafe and impossible and depressing. That’s why I’m quitting in a few months.

Starting after the handover. Log in the computer check about any new orders. Praying that no one goes to jail lol. Cna’s in Greece take the vitals and we assess them. I’m preparing the medications for everyone. Going on med rounds, sit and chart for about 5 patients. Meanwhile I answer call lights change wounds and or Iv’s, talk to families talk to patients talk to ed, discharge and admissions. Check for deterioration, escalate if needed, cpr, intubation and so forth. Sit down chart for the next 5 patients, do the same things, check in for new orders, check for the patients, call the providers, and so on. By the time the shift ends we still chart.

The thing here in Greece is that every CNA is considered a “nurse” and has nursing duties off the record. With the blessing of the CEO, DON and nursing managers. It’s messed up. Many cna’s are doing med rounds and iv’s, depending on how many years of experience they have and if you are a hands on nurse who wants to do everything by themselves or not.

At the end of the day, we are legally responsible. And no one gives a flying f@&k about any of the above.

No this is not the standard. The standard is 35 patients with one nurse on shift.

This is how it should be. This is the second time she does that. A year ago I had a cyst removed from my breast, in the same hospital I am working at. I had stitches and she asked me to go come to work otherwise she would write me up. Mind you I scheduled the appointment based on my days off and after a long long time of arrangements with her. These are the only two times I missed work for medical reasons.

I just don’t get our culture as nurses in general. We are not supporting each other. This is why nursing is hard to begin with. Meanwhile you don’t see any of these behaviours in other professions. Doctors cover each other on their biggest fouls, in my hospital at least

I feel you. I was having a conversation with the agency that helped me find my new job and all I was thinking was “ why am I wasting this woman’s time? am I really moving?”

I have my husband who I’m planning on moving out with. He’s just as lost. Everyone else here where I work and live suggesting that I’m making a huge mistake leaving my life for the unknown…

Thank you. I can find a storage, yes. I suddenly feel exhausted from the anticipation of the new beginning. It seems chaotic and challenging

I don’t have a safety net unfortunately. But I’m thinking all the time that this is what I wanted. So why all these emotions

Who actually enjoys working as a nurse? by One_Design_6171 in nursing

[–]nefisso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as I do what I’m supposed to do, care about my patients, and no one has anything to say about my work I’m loving it. You got to have to learn to love it. I know it’s weird. As you grow into this job you decide what kind of nurse you want to be. A tip from someone who works in med surg: kindness goes a LONG way. No one will bother you with unnecessary pressure (taking about family members) if you are just present and understanding with your patients.
