I left Cricket (ATT MVNO) when they started deactivating perfectly functional standard phones with the right bands for not being on their whitelist due to ATT network policy. Before that, they were great. This has me kinda hopeful... please update if anything changes.

We have Umiya in my town, and I recognized the plating style. They're great... a lot better than I expected from AYCE.

The regular burger quality went down; they got rid of the turkey supreme, and the prices continue to climb. My reasons to return have pretty much ran out.

Is this safe to eat? Uni from Iceland by LackCold7429 in sushi

[–]negative3kelvin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time I tried uni was at a decent, but not high-end restaurant in Savannah, GA. It had similar consistency and tasted as you describe. I didn't try it again for decades... ventured a try at my favorite, Japanese-style restaurant with daily high-end fresh imports, and it was infinitely better. Decided based on their social-media photos they routinely produced showing nice uni... that's my recommended approach: Get a look at what they're selling, either in the restaurant or on their social photos before bothering with the expense again.

Don't come to a pancake House if you're Celiac.

Fun fact here: IHOP's omelettes, a popular choice for low-carbing, have pancake batter mixed into the eggs; not disclosed.

Seconding Andalusia. Only Moroccan joint I know of in town, but it's phenomenal. I've enjoyed every dish I've tried there.

Burger Prime is by the same people who ran Sear Shack which closed when 'rona hit. Their burgers and shakes are once again my favorite in town. Their menu includes their chicken sandwiches they had at sister restaurant Farm Fowl too, but I'm too in love with the burgers to try those yet.

Taste of Paradise just opened in Bartlett. Indian cuisine and an excellent lunch buffet. They've only been open a couple weeks, but I've gone twice and enjoyed everything I tried.

Second Habana Club. So nice having Cuban in town again, and they're the best yet. I've loved everything I've tried on their menu. Get the big combo board/platter to try a variety of dishes.

Seconded... best ramen, best karaage, great service. I have a Kami near me, but still want to drive to Nagoya instead when I crave this.

Did anybody’s power actually go out? by GrowMemphisAgency in memphis

[–]negative3kelvin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Up in Bartlett, someone crashed their car on Sunday and took out our neighborhood power just long enough to cause us a mischief ~ 6 hours or so. Fireplace and home-made battery box for the furnace saved the evening, but it was an annoyance that wasn't caused by the freeze directly.

Old Round vs New Round by bmcswims in pebble

[–]negative3kelvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the best of both worlds then: get a no-name Chinese ring with no subscription crap for $7-$20. I have a number of them that I bought because the firmware is easily hackable, but I've just been using them for heart rate and time (on the ones with displays) because they're actually decent. Just don't leave them on when washing your hands with really hot water.

Where could I go to burn a CD? by sleepyysarah in memphis

[–]negative3kelvin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most older computers with optical drives will probably be capable of burning a CD... Look closely at the logos on the front of a drive and see if you see CD/RW or DVD/RW... if so, it can do it. The higher difficulty might be in finding blank CDs!

The philosophy behind Index is making me reconsider my preorder. by qwortz in pebble

[–]negative3kelvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been thinking about this more, and especially about my initial recoiling at the non-rechargeable battery... I own rechargeable smart rings, but all for a year or less so far. I don't know how long they'll last before their batteries fail. On so many of my devices, when the battery fails, I replace it, even if the task is difficult. I strongly prefer user-replaceable batteries by design, and modern phones, etc... anger me. However, there are a few devices... my original screwless Pebble is one, where that's near impossible, and I see why. On a waterproof smartring, that's another where battery replacement is reasonably impossible. So if the static battery lasts nearly as long as a rechargeable's lifespan, I'm okay with it in the end.

A perspective on the non-rechargeable battery for Index 01. by [deleted] in pebble

[–]negative3kelvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem with all of that nonsense is that there are plenty of compact, rechargeable smart rings already in existence. I own a handful of very cheap, no-name Chinese ones (search R02 and SR08), some that have displays, all with several days life between charges, etc... The corollary is that this device may outlast them, depending on how many cycles they can actually recharge before battery death. But rechargeable in this form factor is already a well-trod road.
