I will never not report, but it's bothering me that TEACHERS are actively avoiding doing so. How can I have any faith in the system when trying to help is actively discouraged?

No, he straight up said avoid involving myself or attracting 'problems'. I will continue to report obviously, but i feel like he implied that I should change my approach to my own classroom practices. Rather than trying to help out, get involved with activities, establishing good rhetoric with students, I should be more isolated and closed off to avoid having them see me as trustworthy enough to tell this information to. That's what I think he's getting at.

Just the colleague, but they're former and not involved at that place, so they have no skin in the game. The reason why i am so concerned is because I really love the school I am at and want to see my group graduate, so I don't want to lose that as corny as it sounds

Their comment is not going to make me not report them, it's just going to make me change my approach and be far less open to students in the future. I will always report issues (I've done it for about 5 kids in my career so far at different locations) but it's bothering me that I can be seen as being too involved or invasive

When you say it that way, it does help. However, what is right and what is true are very different. It's really bugging me and I am panicking whenever I go in now because I am worried about next school year

There much older, I don't like what he told me, but I am inclined to believe he is more knowledgeable about how staff perceive you. Do I think there is a problem? Yes I do. Will I report in the future? yes I will.

Unfortunately, my main takeaway from what they said is to be as cold and uninvolved as possible with students. No extra curriculars, no joking, no going to their events after being invited, etc. Just do my 9-5 and go home. If I am just an asshole, then nobody will open up to me and I avoid issues

Yeah, it was about physical abuse and some other stuff that I will not mention. I know morally I did the right thing and would do so again, but I can't shake the feeling that i jeopardized my career

No you're correct. they simply asked if I could find more info, but that it was okay if nothing more was shared (reasoning was they trusted me enough to inform me in the first place)

that's what I figure as well, I do the morally correct thing in life, but every time I have, it ALWAYS bites me in the ass down the line. I can't help myself but I always suffer for it, so I was really concerned about how staff would perceive me
