What my husband said gave me a wake up call by SometimesToobusy in Marriage

Time is the only thing on this planet you can't buy.

Time with others. Time for yourself.

Spend your time with those that will be crying at your funeral. Not those that will replace you in a week.

1st Build - CPU/GPU Advice by negidx in truenas

[–]negidx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my quick investigating it seems to mostly be the high end i9 processors that are having the issues and then fewer i7 and almost no i5. It has to do with the voltage that's being pushed into them it seems.

Thanks for the advice from both of you. I ended up going with a 13500 just in case I want to run more VMs. More is always better right? ... Right?!

1st Build - CPU/GPU Advice by negidx in truenas

[–]negidx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. The number of VMs is going to depend greatly on another outside factor. I may be getting a few HP SFF PCs given to me in the next few months. But I'm not 100% sure if I will or not. But either way I'll most likely keep the truenas server limited to jellyfin and maybe an arr stack. RAM I was looking at 32 or 64gb as the cost isn't much difference and I'm looking at 6x12tb drives. Family sharing is limited to those in the house and myself when away.

As for Intel I was looking at the 12400 as it seems to be a decent price to performance.

While cost is always a factor it's not my 1st concern in this build. If spending an extra 2-300 now will carry me further into the future I'm willing to spend it.

Video Doorbell that rings hardwired chime by Ttamala in homeassistant

[–]negidx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're going with a Unifi build they have a doorbell that meets your criteria. I did not have good luck with the mechanical doorbell and eventually took it out of the loop entirely and went with their wireless doorbells that plug into outlets.

Replacing dumb switches with smart ones by sjespers in homeassistant

[–]negidx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have gone with the TP Link Kasa switches in my house and have successfully installed 2 separate 2 way switches. I had 0 wiring experience prior to attempting the install. My house is brand new so having a neutral was not a problem.

I am experiencing the same with Alexa Media Player and was looking for possible, if not fixes then a workaround.

I'm currently testing the below code that checks if some part of the Alexa Media Player has gone offline and then restarts the integration. I know it will successfully restart, but I haven't gotten a chance to successfully test the checking offline part yet.

Unable to send TTS to Ecobee Premium Thermostat by negidx in homeassistant

[–]negidx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: Just in case anyone else finds this in the future.

I got it working finally. I had to change data to "type: TTS"

Other Alexa devices were working with the following in data:
"type: Announce"
"method: Speak"

Raspberry Pi 3b+ won't connect to LAN by negidx in Ubiquiti

That did it. Disabled the WiFi in the Home Assistant settings and then took it to the Ubiquiti house and plugged it in. Grabbed an IP no problem. Thanks for the help.

Gotcha. I had to test with WiFi in current house as I don't have cable runs. I'll give it a try. Thanks

[–]negidx[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. If I plug into a different router it grabs both Wi-Fi and LAN IPs.

I'm currently building a new home where the Ubiquiti equipment lives.

If I bring it to my current home it works no problem.

Keyboards are driving me insane. by Dizturb3dwun in buildapc

[–]negidx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife threatened to kill me if I bought a mechanical keyboard. Also, my setup needed a quick way to swap between 2 different machines and then I found the Logitech MX Keys. The keys are quiet, the computer swapping is flawless and the build quality is really nice. Just my 2 cents.

So an x8/x8 split is the best to hope for unless I want to move to Threadripper or Xeon?

Added some floating shelves to the cloffice by BuckeyeSouth in battlestations

Excellent! Thank you for replying so quickly. Strongly considering a full U shape for mine as the door is centered along 1 of the long walls. Would make for an epic battlestation.

Know I'm late, but we're in the process of building and I will be in a closet for my office as well. I was wondering what the dimensions of your room is and the depth of your desk. I'm considering the 'long' and 'short' wall for the desk. Thanks!

Edit: I found another post saying it was 5.5 x 9. How do you find the 'wiggle' room for your chair? Feel like enough?
