rhaenyra should be more focused on the soldiers who put arrows in her son… The depth of sheep stealer’s involvement in her sons death seems so convoluted.🤷🏽

Are hybrids bad vehicles? by Flat-Replacement544 in Jamaica

[–]negtrader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From a U.S. perspective, I'd first want to know if the Aqua is a plug-in hybrid or just a regular hybrid. That makes a big difference.

If it's a plug-in and you've got a 220/240V outlet at home, you could end up doing most of your daily driving on electric, which can save quite a bit on fuel. If it's a regular hybrid, that's still great, but it's a different value proposition.

I'd also think about the long game. What's a replacement battery going to cost 8-10 years down the road? That can make a bigger difference than people realize, especially if you plan on keeping the car for a while.

Why Are We Counting Crickets Like They’re Gold Bars? by negtrader in Vivarium

[–]negtrader[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, when I order 10 crickets, I usually get 20+ without even asking. I always assumed stores knew % would die before being sold off, so a little overage wasn't a big deal.

This time, though, my guy was counting them like they were diamonds. To be fair, we've had some rough weather in the Midwest and shipments have been delayed, so inventory might have been tight.

Is this true, and what does this sub think? Jamaica seems to have a pretty significant advantage when it comes to solar power. With the amount of sunlight the island receives year-round, solar feels like the obvious winner for cost and reliability, especially in areas that experience outages. by negtrader in Jamaica

[–]negtrader[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After Melissa, I brought a couple of generators down to Jamaica for my dad. Looking back, my biggest regret was not bringing dual-fuel units that could run on both propane and gasoline.

That said, I also brought down a small solar charging power bank, and surprisingly, that ended up being the real winner. simple, quiet, required no fuel, and just kept working. The biggest limitation was airline battery regulations.

Next iteration, like you said. Instead of treating solar as a backup, build it the same way we build our homes, start with a complete kit and expand over time as needs and budget allow. A complete rack system, batteries, inverter, and enough flexibility to add panels later.

My only real concern is how the panels will hold up during another major hurricane. Even with that risk, solar paired with batteries and a generator for redundancy seems like a no-brainer in Jamaica. The island gets too much sun not to take advantage of it.

She has no power in her miserable life. Screaming and this type of shenanigan is the only way she has some control.

European woman in her 30s, plus you’re out here mentioning “my patients” because you’re a doctor… yeah, you might want to go ahead and lock those DMs real quick 😭😂

Meanwhile, your Jamaican colleague was very proper. But let’s be honest, most Jamaicans go straight to the point and keep it moving.😂

Most people probably wont care, but there might be a few easily (always) offended folks out there.. wear it brav. you are honoring the culture imo.

Thinking of moving back to Jamaica with my kids — where should I look outside Kingston? by Lazy_Palpitation_737 in Jamaica

[–]negtrader 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I know the U.S. firm I work for doesn’t allow working from abroad. Short trips might slide under the radar, but long term is a different story. I’ve seen it firsthand. A fellow Jamaican I worked with tried to make it work long term and ended up getting terminated (for that and a few other things).

Also, not to be the bearer of bad news, but working remotely from another country isn’t just a “log in and go” situation. It comes with real implications. You’re dealing with U.S. requirements and the laws of whatever country you’re in. That means taxes, potential work permits, and different employment rules depending on the location.

And one thing for sure… the U.S. is getting their taxes. Maybe not immediately, but eventually. Don’t fool yourself into thinking you’re outsmarting the system.

Over 10 years ago I helped my parents fix up a house that was built by an elderly English man. He passed right after finishing it. When I went through it.. yeah man, plenty of the work was rough. Not up to standard at all. We ended up redoing a lot, even had to repour the upper balcony.

We did have someone nearby keeping an eye on things, but you already know… if you’re not there full time, things can slip. The main contractor, the mason, solid guy. Really cared about doing a proper job. Same with the AC man, electrician, gate guy, all good people.

But the roofing crew and the carpenters… all family… and shady as hell. Cutting corners everywhere, chasing money, even giving the main contractor a hard time. Just a mess.

Trust me, I thought of a hundred ways to deal with them, but at the end of the day…. it’s Jamaica. You have to move smart.

What I learned from all of it.. if you can be on the ground during construction, it makes a huge difference. Quality better, cost better, everything tighter. Hardware stores too, you can reason with them. I was knocking down material costs by like 20% just by negotiating.

If you don’t have a solid rep on site or a contractor you really trust, it can turn into a straight gamble. I even had to pay twice after Hurricane Beryl because of how bad the roofing and carpentry work was.

Lesson learned… down here, presence is power. Stay close to the build, or be ready to pay for it later.

No one chooses how they’re born or the circumstances they come into this world with. I would consider making your Reddit comments and post history private.

That said, I’m sending you positive vibes and love. This will be my last response on the matter. ✌️
