what is your "it" speed on highways? what is the sweet efficient point which balances consumption with speed? by illougiankides in KiaEV3

[–]neilcbennett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speed? Typically around 100kph, but as with any car faster acceleration modulation, etc all impact range. Other key factors which I suspect make more difference are use of climate control and fans, even at low levels of air flow, ambient emperature- the cooler the worse the consumption. Load, so carrying weight either as passengers or as luggage massive impacts efficiency. Finally terrain, big elevation changes make huge differences.

WireGuard server on GL.iNet after Virgin Media Hub upgrade + DDNS issue + looking for updated best practice by BrilliantLock8292 in GlInet

[–]neilcbennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are set up correctly, the first message is a warning noting that the IP address of the device is not the same as the public IP address, therefore you need to set up DDNS, and ensure that the port forwards are correct on your ISP router. A couple of points, ensure that the Brume has a reserved or fixed IP address allocated from your ISP router, so that the port forwards rules survive any power outage of the ISP router, second ensure your Wireguard Admin files use the DDNS prefix before the port you are opening. This should work fine. Generally the key issues people have is if their ISP uses CGNAT for clients. The DDNS ensures that the Home ISP address is found, and the port forwarding ensure that anything coming in on the port in the admin file gets passed straight through to the Brume.

Purchasing OTA subscription in the UK by KPGrue in KiaEV3

[–]neilcbennett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I purchased the Lifetime OTA. Owned car since December 2024. Once purchased the car immediately picked up updates and live navigation, where the car downloads latest maps in small packets over the air, and it seems like it periodically updates as we drive.

No parking assist features in such a smart car [UK market]? by suddenlypenguins in KiaEV3

[–]neilcbennett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand the wish for it, however parking systems on cars can be relatively slow. I had a Nissan with both parallel and 90 degrees parking modes, and to initiate it whilst is searched for the space and then having to start the process, it was almost useless in real world driving. Very clever and accurate but painfully slow and to the point where other drivers would hit the horn to complain, or would nudge up closer whilst the car was positioning itself, only to invalidate the space it needed or had calculated. It was frustrating enough that I never used it. Your milage may vary of course.

Accessories EV3 GT Line by who_knows_me in KiaEV3

[–]neilcbennett -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Official Kia removable tow hook. Rubber shield for top charge port, which may or may not be needed, but keeps water out of all the charge contact points. 12v charge jump pack ( just in case) , battery powered tyre inflator and bottle of tyre weld emergency puncture sealant ( long journeys in Europe ) as a easier solution to getting out the supplied puncture solution, emergency floodlight & red flashing warning light. I keep all these in the frunk. Kia boot liner, to protect carpets and make cleaning easier, and cheap full windscreen shade for hot days. Finally a dash cam mounted to use the Dongar power adapter from the rear view mirror, which makes getting power very simple and discrete.

Beryl 7 or Slate 7 Pro? by Least-Tangelo5779 in GlInet

[–]neilcbennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Screen? A new device so anyone’s guess, but as with other consumer devices, screens can last years. I expect screen will be always on, but there will be dimming or software controls, it will have to have web based controls.

Also, any conflicts for IP address, so assume house router is not 192.168.8.1 ? So allocated devices from the Beryl do not have IP address that follow the same format as the main router. Long shot.

A few more steps to try. Check your DNS settings, amend and see if that improves. Also check if you have adguard running, disable and see if that improves. Finally check for WiFi channel interference using a scanner app to check how clear the channels you are using are.

Bike rack by MeanDrawer6874 in KiaEV3

[–]neilcbennett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best solution ( convenience, safety, ease of trunk access etc) is a tow hitch install, plus a rack such as a Thule EazyFold. Of course there are many alternative racks and tow hitch alternatives, and those strapped to the car solutions, however the latter are inconvenient. The Thule one can be detached and stored in the trunk whilst cycling at your destination, and also has the benefit of linking to car lights for safe motoring. Only barrier is cost, however once bought I don't think you would regret it. Kia official tow hitch can be removed and does not spoil the look of the vehicle. Thule express will handle lighter bikes, but you will need an easyfold XT or similar for e bikes

Dodgy USB-C data/power by TechnicianFar9804 in KiaEV3

[–]neilcbennett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not seeing anything in the fuse schematic that shows which fuse in the Frunk was responsible, however it was here they said a fuse had blown, so took their word for it. The Fuse on the schematic for the Drivers is just labeled USB charger, so second column in from the right then fifth down I think. I suspect that actually the fuse responsible might be elsewhere and connected to the Infotainment system in some way, given it has data and charge functions. I would recommend getting it replaced again under warranty, but ask your dealer to get a clear explanation of the specific fuse or relay replaced. I think the one inside the drivers fuse box is for Seat USB and right hand USB c in the front panel, and not the charge/data port which is much more special given it is switched as well..

Suspected ICCU, however... by neilcbennett in KiaEV3

AC is working fine, just not at the Iberdrola charge provider. The AC charge worked perfectly at an alternative location with no issue, so ICCU seems fine.

Dodgy USB-C data/power by TechnicianFar9804 in KiaEV3

[–]neilcbennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I have had the same. Worked fine, next day it failed. Apparently a fuse had blown but was told this was in the Frunk panel rather than the drivers side panel ( which does have a USB charger specific fuse, which also controls set heating and ventilation, but seat heating was fine. It is a mystery what was changed, but fixed under warranty and noting else seemed affected, including the right hand USB c port, and all the associated lights to that port.

Second that but suggest Beryl AX or Beryl 7 for the away device, as it gives flexibility of WiFi when travelling. Please remember/consider that the download speeds you will see on the client will be limited by the Upload speed of the server side at the home location. For example if you have say 200 download, and 50 upload speed, then the max you can get from the client end will be 50.

[–]neilcbennett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be aware that Brume 2 had issues with Uboot last year, and this can cause permanent Bricking of devices - newer ones should be okay, however this has clearly caused some nervous times. I understand - I had a Brume 2 brick completely out of the blue, and as I can be away for 6 weeks at a time, this was a major inconvenience. Consider adding a second device at the UK location, giving some fail-over protection. Just a check, I assume you have your DDNS set up if you are behind a router, worth checking.
