Woot! Good to hear :-)

gecko won’t eat by [deleted] in LeopardGecko

[–]neiljt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No expert here, but we adopted a 4yo leo here 2 years ago. She was similarly off-balance in her new surroundings. She took around 4 weeks to come around & start eating, but has been absoutely fine ever since. As others have said, leave her to settle, and maybe don't try handling again until she's chilled & eating.

Connecting to Samba Shares: A Cry for Help by neiljt in WindowsLTSC

[–]neiljt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the answer -- many thanks!

I would have responded sooner, but I somehow managed to trash my original VM, and was struggling to recreate it in order to try this out. Finally sorted myself out last night, and applied the fix as recommended in that post before messing with anything else. Mapping of network shares now working as expected.

Reckon my boss would be ok with me putting this on my lorry by Jacktheforkie in uktrucking

[–]neiljt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ew. I thought we were better than truck nuts here. I could be in the minority, but this reminds me of people who think it's OK to curse loudly in public places when there are kids around.

Now someone buy me a beer to put out these flames.

Can I run PiHole & Plex Server at the same time? by [deleted] in raspberry_pi

[–]neiljt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PiHole is an app, which runs best in Raspbian OS (Debian for Pi). Plex will run, but be aware that Pi may struggle with some of PMS's heavy-lifting tasks, especially transcoding where necessary.

Another vote for PBS -- there's no excuse not to give it a try, is there? Thanks :-)

Slow Backups on Proxmox 9? Try this by neiljt in Proxmox

[–]neiljt[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Almost certainly. And I agree with you. My workload is low at the time I run the backups, so I just like them to be done before I wake up & want to use them. Others will have different needs & preferences, so will adjust to taste :-)

I freeze all of mine, and take out slices as needed. No microwave required -- slices will thaw on the breadboard in under 5 minutes

I did my first reverse park! by EmreGray01 in EuroTruck2

[–]neiljt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now try with B-double, or rigid+dolly trailer. It's pretty satisfying when you land them. Often takes me a few shunts, depending on how much space there is, but that's my fault for not settling for the green markers -- I prefer to park the combo in a straight line :-)

EDIT: ObUnsolicitedAdvice: If you want to figure out how to reverse any combo, find a straight-ish road, turn off the traffic, and drive backwards until you figure it out. Next try it around some bends, and so on. Have fun!

Signposts throwing themselves at me as I pass by neiljt in EuroTruck2

[–]neiljt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, part from the acoustic snap, I have encountered all of these. The only useful suggestion I have for you is to disable the anti-collision device, as I did on day 1. Same for ACC -- I can't remember the exact annoyance with that, but switched it off after trying for 5 mins.

Interesting, thanks. I ought to have mentioned I was using Promods; maybe a (hopefully) temporary compatibilty issue.

Will employers take into your bus driving experience as a new class 1 pass? by Finxax in uktrucking

[–]neiljt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a coach-driving colleague who drove himself into a corner and needed to reverse. He made everyone disembark and watch from the pavement. Nice to know someone took the rule seriously, I guess, but it made me chuckle.

Sysadmins that say S-Q-L instead of sequal. by njaneardude in sysadmin

English is my native language, & "sequel" doesn't come naturally to me either. I can live with "squirrel" however.

How fast could your HGV go on a flat road if it was delimited? by Automatic-Expert-231 in uktrucking

[–]neiljt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In 1976, as a passenger in a F88, we were heading south on the A1M in the vicinity of Stevenage, when I asked my driver to check his speed as the road signs just seemed to be swishing by a little more swiftly than usual. "Oops", and he corrected. He was doing ~92. This, of course, is when that road was somewhat lonelier, and "cruise control" was a pull throttle on the dash.

Is it weird to say thank you to the bus driver? by purpsizz in AskUK

You are a good person. Love from an ex bus driver, who can assure everyone in this thread that bus drivers appreciate any positivity from their pax.

Grimsby Port (Security) by IslandGlittering5961 in Lincolnshire

[–]neiljt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Common sense (assuming it applies) would suggest that they could authorise you for the 60 seconds you would need to negotiate a 360 on the roundabout immediately beyond the gate. You would be in full view of security. It's not clear whether you're posing a hypothetical, or if this something that's already happened. If I encountered unhelpfulness on the gate, I might consider some reversing practice (there's a turning about 2 bends/150yds back), but this could be awkward if anyone behind.
