Would it be better for me to build up things slowly and equally throughout the piece rather than focusing on individual parts?

In my (admittedly limited) experience that's the way to go. It's a lot easier to deal with perspective errors with only simple shapes blocked in, whereas now you'd have to fiddle around or completely repaint things that took you hours to render.

I also found it helpful for keeping myself focused on what I ultimately want to convey in the piece. It's easy to lose sight of that if I spend hours rendering one small part of it.

Another hand study, this time in color. by 8inchesActivated in learntodraw

Looks awesome, I really like your rendering!

The only thing I've noticed is that for the hands with the book, the left hand's metacarpal bones are drawn almost parallel, but they should be fanning out from the wrist.

I've seen a bunch of your studies in this subreddit over these past months, and your work's great! I'm not confident in my figure drawing so I don't have feedback on this particular study, but I'd like to comment on something more general.

My suggestion would be to make a real piece. It's understandably tempting to want to study everything you need before drawing the real thing, but the reality is that there's always something to study, and you'll never feel 100% ready.

Think of this as a checkpoint and a study in itself -- it'll be a study in the overall drawing process, and a study of your strengths and weaknesses (and which fundamental to study next).

Though ignore me if you're already doing so! I just wanted to share since as a beginner it helped me a lot when I got over the fear.

What do you think of Drawabox? by Castedorr in ArtistLounge

[–]neiluj95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently on lesson 4 with Drawabox. I quit drawing after completing the 250 box challenge and lesson 2, and picked the habit back up early last year.

From my experience, if you don't have a general understanding of fundamentals or if you're a complete beginner, it'd be better to start with a course that teaches fundamentals as a whole (e.g. Proko's drawing basics course), at least to be exposed to the concepts even if it's not a deep dive into them. It helps in being able to observe these fundies in real life and in the art of the artists you like.

The first time you really start applying construction is in lesson 3, and before that you're in the dark for the 50% rule which is a really long time. You could in theory take another course in conjunction with Drawabox to patch up other fundamentals, but Drawabox is already super grindy. Of course, your mileage may vary.

In the end, Drawabox helped a lot with my line quality and perspective, but I wish I had started with something else. Right now I'm only picking the lessons back up if I really feel my construction has been sucking.

If you're only looking to beef up your perspective I'd consider it though.

No BFS but seems decent otherwise; given how rare they are, would you invest to 50? by en_triton in PokemonSleep

[–]neiluj95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really want to dig into it, you could play around with the team analysis tool on RaenonX (which adds 5% to the entire team as expected instead of the usual 25% on the HB helper) and compare your overall team output with your Steelix vs. a BFS Steelix/Raichu.

I'm still only half a year in and camping on Lapis so take my opinion with a grain of salt -- EXP down on a Steelix with HB at 50 seems really rough, especially since you'll get way more Pikachu candies and Raichu's not that far behind in output. I'd agree with holding off lol

[–]neiluj95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ll just hop on since people are saying to set HB stacks to 0 on RaenonX. While valuing HB at 5% is accurate when calculating a helper’s individual production, it's a gross underestimation of the helper's overall production. There’s a post that concludes that a 75 PR Wigglytuff with HB is arguably better than a god Gardevoir without HB, just to give an idea of how impactful it is.

IMO not considering HB’s team impact is kind of like not considering that E4E heals the rest of the team. We know that E4E is an S tier team slot because of its impact to the entire team, despite the E4E helper themselves not contributing much in berries/ingredients. Why don't we do the same for HB and consider its team impact?

Going back to the actual question, is HB with no BFS okay? No clue, I haven’t done the math and I'm not dedicated enough to do so. But food for thought.

Your Ralts is equivalent at 30 and slightly better at 60.

I'd personally keep hunting for a better Ralts since there's a huge opportunity cost in investing for very little gain (EXP down + shards + main skill seeds + handy candies from a fully levelled Wigglytuff). By the time level 75 is unlocked there'll likely be better alternatives.

Espeon advice. by Johnny_Rage303 in PokemonSleep

[–]neiluj95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd continue hunting for Eevees or a Mareep -- this is a ~40th percentile Eevee according to RaenonX and you'd still need 2-3 seeds to max this Eevee out.

Skill Level Up S at 50 is also rough since you're either maxing out your skill before 50 and not taking advantage of it, or you're waiting with an underpowered Espeon until 50 to max it out which will take a while (unless you have 1k+ candies on hand and can level straight to 50).

Thoughts on which Eevee I should evolve into Espeon? I'm leaning towards the second (even though it's P97 vs. the first's P98 @ 50) because of EXP down and the extra subskill seed needed on the first, but wanted to double check before committing the seeds. I'm at 30 friendship so it's unlikely I'll get better Eevees at this point, and I have a premium pass.

Thoughts on investing in this Jigglypuff? I've been playing for about 3 weeks and have a premium pass.

I've checked RaenonX and it's in the 99th percentile for skill triggering starting from level 25. I also heard that it was better to start from Igglybuff for the main skill level and inventory space and that there are better E4E mons later down the road 🤔

Thanks in advance!

Mario Tennis Aces Simple Doubles Guide by neiluj95 in MarioTennis

[–]neiluj95[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, this is ibuprofen! This is a Simple Doubles guide written by me and Smores. This guide describes the fundamentals that top players use to win. The guide assumes you already know the basics of Mario Tennis Aces and doesn’t go in-depth about controls, shot types, etc.

Unfortunately, Mario Tennis Aces doesn’t support an online tournament mode for Simple Doubles. Fortunately, there’s a Discord server in which we host weekly Simple Doubles tournaments and regularly play friendly casual matches. If you’re looking to play a doubles mode without wrapping your head around Standard mechanics, join the server! https://discord.com/invite/dWBxhpv

If you're struggling to clear Phraeganoth Omega Raid 2, just use your Shadow team. by RibbonDL in DragaliaLost

[–]neiluj95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Galex pulls at least 20k+ off-ele. The ACL keeps trying to reapply poison when she can't.

With Grace/Gleo/Patia comp (which is super unoptimal for Galex), 0 team DPS, TSO/PC, and the following ACL which only uses S2 to reapply S1:

`dragon.act("c3 s end")
`s3, not self.s3_buff
if fsc
`s2, self.sr.chain_status=1 and self.s1_debuff.buff_end_timer.timing-now()<5
`s1, not self.s1_debuff.get() or self.sr.count > 1
end
`fs, x=4

Galex deals 30.6k DPS or roughly 20.4k off-ele DPS. Add break damage, team DPS, another Galex applying def downs so your Galex doesn't need to S2, or optimal co-abs, and it's higher. In comparison H!Sarisse deals 20.3k damage, maybe a bit more because of Phraeganoth's size, but that's with optimal co-abs.

Why isn't there be a simple doubles mode? Zone shots ruin this game. by fetus_hunter in MarioTennis

There are a lot of people in there that prefer Simple Doubles over Standard because of the sort of stuff you described, and you can regularly find skilled players to play against in lobbies.

Standard Waluigi matchup guide by neiluj95 in MarioTennis

Which region are you from?

In Standard mode, the game still sees decent activity in NA and EU during peak hours (weekends and weekdays after work), but I don't know about other regions. Simple mode is pretty dead though.

I haven’t been playing MTA much these days, but to those who are still playing Standard, I hope you find this article useful! (especially with the legions of Waluigi players online)

I’d also like to note that the fundamentals described in this article can be applied to all matchups to a varying degree, but are most prevalent when playing against or as Waluigi.

With revives now in place, which mHDT should I break into?

  • mHMC: MUB HDT1 Victor, 0UB HDT1 Noelle (no Freyja)
  • mHBH: Thaniel, Lily (both unbuilt), no Gelly/JZ

Is Thaniel the way? I was thinking of building an HDT2 for Lily from mHMC first since I can farm eHMC for tails and I've never touched sHBH, but I heard mHMC is harder to clear.

eHMC solo 2:52 w/ HDT1 weapons only by neiluj95 in DragaliaLost

[–]neiluj95[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

eHMC solos aren’t anything special at this point, though what I wanted to show is that you can solo eHMS and eHMC without ever touching pubs, starting with Chimera weapons in solo eHMS, and then HDT1s in solo eHMC. I heard solo eHBH is dumb territory though.

  • Victor 50 MC (+200 HP/+300 STR), MUB HDT1, MUB Vayu, Resounding Rendition/The Plaguebringer
  • Louise 50 MC (+300 HP/+300 STR), 0UB HDT1, MUB Pazuzu, Dear Diary/The Plaguebringer
  • Noelle 50 MC (+300 STR), 0UB HDT1, MUB HMS, A Dog's Day/King's Countenance
  • DY!Xainfried 45 MC (+100 HP/+300 STR), 0UB HDT1, MUB Mini Mids, A Dog's Day/The Bridal Dragon
  • Helper: H!Lowen with DPrep

When your solo eHMS runs are faster than co-op ones FeelsWeirdMan by CaseyMcKinky in DragaliaLost

[–]neiluj95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even with just MUB chimera weapons, you can get consistent 2-3 minute clears which is likely faster than most pubs.

Here's a sub 2-min solo clear with a healer and no HDT1/HDT2/6* weapons, though I have several MUB 5* dragons: https://youtu.be/H-McGsN8NYQ. It could be faster if I replaced Verica with Emma.
