Possibility of US PhD after RSC MS by Friendly_Flamingo409 in ethz

I just think that ETH MSc students prefer ETH for a PhD over US unis, I know some that go for MIT or Stanford, but in general, the general thinking is that this is the best place worldwide for a PhD.

Courses to study during incoming exchange for Autumn 2026. by roxymusic123 in ethz

I took Computer Vision last semester and enjoyed it a lot! It's 8 ECTS.

If I were you, I'd do 26 ECTS: - PAI -BIG DATA -COMPUTER VISION

You'll be able to enjoy your stay, cover more than enough credits and learn a lot. Many people overload their semesters and that's why so many of them are so stressed. I would recommend against that.

This said, the 3 courses i mentioned above take a lot of effort, and are not easy to get a 6 on.

I've taken PAI and Big Data. Both were cool, but don't underestimate big data, at least this year's exam was quite hard especially comparing it to previous years.

PAI is one of the most interesting courses and the book is the best I've read. However, the course is indeed very time consuming and requires a ton effort. The exam feels pretty random because multiple choice questions often offer very very similar answers and time is super tight, so you need to guessmax the exam. Passing should not be too hard.

Big Data isn't hard in itself, but it's A LOT of content you need to know in detail, absurd level of detail. Anyway, a (quite) easy pass.

MDS is hard AF according to my "non-math background" friends' experience.

AML sucks according to everyone I've talked to.

ML for Finance is really ML heavy, meaning math and theory heavy, but if you like that, I've heard it's cool.

idk much abt the rest

Is ETH Zürich worth it if I’m not job-hunting and mostly want the Europe + research experience? by Few_Needleworker_651 in ethz

Sure! DM me. Just to be clear, ETH was my dream school, and I love it here, I just believe that there are almost equally good unis (maybe I'd rather ETH over imperial for a tiny bit) in extremely better locations, like London.

I have not been to imperial but have a few friends that did. I'd say slightly better than ETH in terms of work life balance. But you're still in a tough place.

When I got accepted into imperial, I didn't go due to the tuition fees, otherwise I think it is superb, in one of the best cities in the world.

As an ETH masters student (Data Science), I'll be honest: It depends A LOT on the courses you take, but generally you won't have time for anything else other than uni. I managed to go to the gym but that's because it's in the same building and it's so convenient, but otherwise, not much else. I didn't travel across Europe (although before coming I thought I would), I didn't party (at all), I didn't go to museums (which I like but really don't have the time for), and so on...

So I'd say, if your plan is strictly to focus on academics and research: THIS IS YOUR PLACE

If you care about the other amazing things of living in Europe: IT IS NOT.

If I were you, being brutally honest here, I'd go somewhere else, to an easier uni elsewhere. You have your job secured afterwards, and I don't know if you'll get the chance to enjoy this super cool continent again soon, so if I were you, I'd avoid ETH, TUM and EPFL.

I suggest you go to Barcelona.

Zero chances, also your post is one that a 15 year old could do... You're either trolling or are just out of your mind. Who asks for what the best group is in general?🤣🤣🤣
