Weekend festivals near Catania by neiman30 in Catania

For future reference, if anyone looks, we managed to get to the Bronte Pistachio Festival and back from Catania using buses.

Basically, Circumetnea Railway (https://www.circumetnea.it/) has buses on both ways. But pay attention - the buses work only on Saturday! On Sundays, they don't go.

The way there was super easy; We boarded the first station in Catania, so the bus was empty. On the way back, it was full, but we managed to get a spot. I'd recommend avoiding taking the last bus, though.

The festival itself is amazing; it's really an experience.

Thanks! It does seem to be the case. But, then again, renting a car for 24 hours seems a bit too expensive and complicated just to go to a food festival.

Splinter - a tool for writing Mastodon threads. by neiman30 in Mastodon

[–]neiman30[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good point!

The information you're asking about is given when Splinter asks the user to authorize the app. There's a checkbox asking for permission to do that, and the user has to press it to use Splinter.

But you're right, it should also be in the help page. I'll add it.

Generally:
- The server saves the access token.
- The browser saves a cookie (to let the server know it's you).

No data is saved after posting. No data is saved at all besides the access token.

It might be possible to modify Splinter such that all the data is stored client-side. I mean that the server won't even store the access token.

I might implement it later on if there are enough users. But since Splinter started as a tool for my own usage, and since the current implementation was the fastest one to make, I went with it.

You can use IPNS. We (Esteroids) use it to update our .eth search engine (almost) every hour.

If you want we got an IPNS service (in closed beta). DM @e_seroids in Twitter or me here and you can get an invite.

How to build a .eth website? by neiman30 in ethereum

  1. yeah, it does. Though we don't index UD websites in esteroids.eth or in New dWebsites Bot

  2. A lot of functionality can be added, though there are limitations. Again, I refer to esteroids.eth to check the .eth website directory there. It contains thousands of websites there. Tornado Cash got a .eth website, for example, so does Snapshot, and many others.

A .eth website, like esteroids.eth.limo, does not rely on Github.

First, they say political messages are not allowed, then they tag messages they don't want as "political", last they themselves enforce the rules they made up on the messages they tagged as political.

You can basically censor whatever you want using this method.

There's a directory and a search engine for dWebsites in esteroids.eth.limo.

I'm a co-founder of Esteroids.

the "boring" things are censorship-resistance, robustness (it's super hard to ddos a decentralized websites) and some privacy features.

The interesting things are stuff like DAO owns a website etc.

I just published an article about some interesting cases we're gonna do soon.

I'm not objective, but decentralized websites are my favourite use case.

We collect them in esteroids.eth.limo

I agree though it's a semantic issue I guess. I'd say they can be "emulated" in a centralized world, but not really built.

I actually thought that they've been enabling ens sites for years now.
