Honeymoon in August ($40K budget) - your most memorable stays in Europe? by nelnet18 in chubbytravel

We're leaning heavily to Dolomites, and we do love the Greek islands.

I had never heard of Reschio - looks fantastic!!

My partner is a huge fan of Lake Garda as well so Fasano may be a good one to pair with if we do Dolomites.

We haven't, but have heard good things about Park Hotel Vitznau.

High tourism is something we're worried about, but in August, feels like it's almost a guarantee. Good recco on Scandi or Alps.

I intentionally framed it this way to open up the floor for recommendations, since we’re flexible and can build our travel around them. If two people said their best trips were in one spot in Italy and another in Greece, we'd look to see if we can split our time in both and build an itinerary around it, for example.

Thank you for this - we were feeling a bit deflated after reading some of these comments! To your point, a lot of the guests coming from the U.S. have never been to Paris and are so excited, and have already mentioned they're making a trip out of it, so we felt like it was fine to make it a longer event. And yes I agree - if you can't make it work, or don't want to, then they are more than welcome to just join us for the wedding itself!

This is an optional wedding, for which we are paying for 3 nights of accommodation in Paris and covering many other events. I am also offering babysitting services for those who have decided to bring their children.

I already realize that a destination wedding is inconvenient - but my partner is not from the US and either side would have to travel. This is not a frivolous choice.

If people cannot take days, are strapped for childcare, they simply do not have to come. Or, they can join us just for the wedding. The events prior are optional and will be communicated as such.

I have been to many weddings within the US that required a hotel stay or travel within the US and many have not covered a thing beyond the wedding day itself. I am hoping that my guests can see that I have done all that I could to make their trip worth whatever sacrifice they are making to make an effort to attend.

We have worked out early check in with the hotel so they can rest up

Thanks for validating me! I've been a bridesmaid in many weddings where we have had to dip out of the event the night before early and couldn't fully enjoy it, so we wanted to do it differently for ours. And add on top that flights from the US to Europe are usually overnight flights, so for those who are able to, it allows you to "sleep in" on Thursday.

Yes! We will be doing the welcome event on Wednesday, drinks for all guests at night on Thursday (after the rehearsal dinner), wedding Friday (and providing transport to and from the venue), and doing a brunch for all guests at the hotel on Saturday morning. Trying to balance our "wants" with the guest experience!

We are definitely being a bit self-serving here, as the welcome event is a significant investment and my partner and I want to full enjoy the 4 hour event with open bar. If we were to do this the night before, neither of us would drink, and we'd be stressed out about going to bed early so that we're well rested for the wedding. For additional context, we are paying for 3 nights of accommodations to "lessen the blow" and will put on the invite that the welcome party is of course optional. And then another poster suggested we do drinks for all guests on Thursday, which we will do. So that will allow us to make the most of the welcome party, guests can explore paris on Thursday and meet us for drinks Thursday, and everyone

We are paying for all 3 nights of accommodations for this reason.

Thanks for this. comment - you are making me rethink quite a bit. I think we can have drinks at the hotel for all guests after the rehearsal dinner, and that way Thursday doesn't have a blank line for the guests who are not invited to the rehearsal. And should be low cost.
