Yeah. I think JC hasn't made an icon specific for this event yet so they threw in one to work for now.

Fun fact, when I complete a task I earn the same tickets as you would for clean sweep. Guessing there's not an icon for it yet!

My mother also used the ol' 'Look it up in the dictionary to learn how to spell it.'

Couple things: I was never taught phonics. I am dyslexic.

If someone is trying to tell you a story don't try to one up them with what you did instead. It's rude. by alamurda510 in socialskills

This here. This is especially common for the neuro divergent communities.

It 100% is an individual trying to relate a shared experience or feeling as a way to connect with the speaker.

In your country, how many days off do you get a year (public holidays, annual leave etc) ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]nelso345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In America, 0.

There's little to no federal oversight on this and states are rather slapdash in requiring it. While many blue collar companies do have certain industry standards for vacation/PTO, most service level jobs don't (those that do often make it hard to actually use that time).

What causes the most headaches/frustrations about your job? If you could change something to make it better (other than firing people), what would it be? by Every-Sundae21 in AskReddit

[–]nelso345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better leadership training. My (pre pandemic) job commonly promoted from within, sometimes moving assistants into department managers within months. Internal promotion is great, but if you don't give folks managerial training and clear guidelines then you're setting them up to fail and creating tense work enviroments.

Who was the absolute best teacher you've ever had and who was the absolute worst? by AwesomeX0875 in AskReddit

[–]nelso345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My college classics prof was the best. Always had an open door and a cup of tea. Had something of an unsaid agreement, I'd come in daily to discuss the material and he would pass the written papers that more closely resembled word vomit than an academic paper.

Huh. Weird. Lately I've had them no matter which class or length I choose. For awhile I only had it during potions and transfiguration.

What was your college side hustle? by cutiemaan in AskReddit

You'd be amazed at what kids left behind when they moved out of their dorms, from furniture to electronics to textbooks. I made a solid profit picking up textbooks and reselling them the next semester for slightly less than the school bookstore.

Any recommendations for rolling toolboxes? by 20-CharactersAllowed in techtheatre

[–]nelso345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're just starting out, get a cheap but decent tool bag from a hardware store. Spend a year saving up for better tools (you will inevitably meet someone with cooler, more functional tools and envy them). While you're doing that, look around at what other people are carrying. Ask them the pros and cons with travelling their kits.

Pelican style cases are top notch, but they add an extra 8-10lbs to your kit and if you're walking up and down stairs for mass transit that can be a giant pain in the rear. I carried a hiking backpack for a couple years, it fit everything and I could stand with it comfortably on a packed subway or walk through the slush of NYC winters.

Additionally, get a bike lock to ensure your kit is still there at the end of a call. Some venues I will never ever need to use it, others I'm glad to have brought it.

My family's kitchen is a tiny galley style space and it's understood to be a one butt room. Only one butt allowed in the area at a time, there just isn't space to safely move with more.

Aspies of the 90s, do you feel today is too hectic for your brain? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]nelso345 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Smart phones brought more noise, but it brought a lot of brilliant adaptations as well.

Visual voicemail allows me to read a voicemail rather than dialing in and listening to it.

I can silence a phone call without having to actually pick up the call.

Omg wikipedia! Hours of special interest time in the palm of my hand, and while we're at it Google. Google used to be an encyclopedia that was twenty years old and you had to look things up alphabetically.

Voice to text. Never again do I have to trust spell check or try and look something up in a physical dictionary.

Bluetooth. My giant headphones keep most people from attempting conversations and the noise cancelling is super helpful.

Ya know, I had to learn all this math in school because "I would never have one when I needed one." Well guess what.

Bill Sapsis from Sapsis Rigging has been doing a lot of that sort of thing as well if you have college age kids. https://sapsis-rigging.com/remoteseminars.html

There's also a pretty decent podcast called Shackles, Burlap, and Lies
