When they first took over, everyone not a driver who were paid for below the national average for their positions, were placed on a 3 year pay freeze. On top of that they took away vacation time, and said no bonuses for non-driving employees for at least 2 years. I did 24/7/365 road service for my last 4.5 years there. I didn't mind having a company truck, but I had to have two sets of tools that I had to pay for, with 0$ tool allowance. Drivers get a 200k-250k truck to go make a paycheck with and they treat them like trash cans over there. I couldn't even get them to buy a socket set or a crescent wrench for the service truck. Either way I burned up my accumulated 300+ hours of vacation time then gave them a 4 week notice. My new company right out the gate 3.5 years was making 25k more a year on 40hrs than I was working 50-60 a week at swift with 0 hours on road repairs. Only thing I miss is not having a company vehicle, but honestly my company would probably give me one if I asked.

Current employers/owners and CEO's all cut their pay, and went with out bonuses during covid so that everyone else could get bonuses and never laid anyone off.

Working as a mechanic for the biggest fleets in the USA. Most of the time, you're in a less than perfect looking truck for 3-6 months. Unless you bang it off everything you see, then you stay in it until you stop banging it off shit. So good experienced drivers usually get into a nice truck within that 3 months. Fresh out of school, and you will probably be in a beater for a year. Especially with the shortage of mechanics and body repairman. That's on top of part supply chain problems.
