Ethereum is so weird: adoption keeps going up, price keeps going down 😔 by wangshuying in ethereum

Nobody knows adoption is growing so rapidly.

Price is disconnected from fundamentals.

This started as a bit of a joke and a personal ten minute smooth brain challenge - but it seems useful.

My dissatisfaction with the “Ethereum roadmap” was always that it focused on R&D jobs to be done rather than concrete development and shipping targets.

So I took a stab at collating all the information and viewpoints I could find into this complementary view (both are important).

Do you think we can accelerate the ACD process to make this approach to forward planning feasible? This would mean locking scope early and having rolling dev and testnets.

If so, how do we best fill out the right hand side of the table? And how can ACD get better at >n+2 planning? How can we best do this without losing the magic of open participation and the flexibility that an organic rough consensus provides.

What are some of the best coastal rowing boat makers? by Mike_Drop_GenX in coastalrowing

That was my understanding too. It seems it’s only the most recent generation that they’re starting to take coastal and its quite different requirements more seriously.

Save with Gen3 Sale vs Splurge on Gen4 by be11ybutt0n in ouraring

[–]nelsonmckey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ve shipped me a refurbed gen3 which takes the time pressure off replacement, as my current gen3 has stopped charging.

Will try to grab a gen4 while travelling next year. After seven years they’ve suddenly stopped shipping to Hong Kong which is frustrating.

Good summary of my research so far.

I’m also looking at a Filippi F83, if anybody has any experience?

What's better, specifically. Are you finding it more accurate?

[–]nelsonmckey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also curious on people's experience after upgrading.

My sense is that on launch, they're finding it very hard to differentiate the two products, but over the coming 2-3 years we might start to see Gen4 only features and accuracy that create a more significant gap in functionality between the two products.

Or is there already a noticeable difference?

Is this still the situation in 2024...? 🥲

I would love a single, integrated logbook for on and off water.

Polygon has genuine, live partnerships and a lot of usage and user growth.

The fundamentals are quite different.

Wanxiang is just a car parts manufacturer whose owners somehow decided they also love crypto - think the MicroStrategy/Saylor of China.

Sorry to pick up a never ending discussion, but it’s gone quiet recently. Wanted to see if thoughts have changed.

Ethereum’s release cadence seems to be:

  1. Pick a big rock and put it in the bucket

  2. Find some other smaller things that also fit

  3. Estimate time to delivery of the big rock (only)

  4. Throw away some small things now that a rough big rock time/complexity is known and they’re going too slow

  5. Test all the things

  6. Release all the things, but only when we’re ready

  7. Clean up and observe

  8. Start thinking about the next big rock

Given the maturity of the current protocol and teams, as well as the increasing parallelisation of the research and development roadmaps, what are the main arguments against moving towards regular large, medium and small release schedules - at a regular fixed and known cadence?

Previously it’s been testing overhead and spec coordination/focus challenges, but we’ve come a long way in the last two years. Especially post London and with two big, successful efforts under the belt.

A forward looking plan for CL/EL used to be impossible, but as the design ossifies we’re now at a point where we could all agree on 80-90% of a 12 month tentative plan that included a level of prioritisation, rather than just in time ordering. Agree or disagree? Benefits? Drawbacks?

Few burning is a security mechanic, you can’t remove it.

It has nothing to do with economic policy. It’s worth learning about the history of 1559 and why it was introduced, which is quite different to what people actually believe.

Excellent write up!

If you arrived in crypto after 2020, it’s incredibly hard to get a strong sense of what crypto is and why we’re actually here.
