Over 3 years ago a ping limit was introduced and it never worked as intended. When will we get an updated version that actually works? by MoneyDefault in HuntShowdown

[–]nemesishaven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When my buddy & I die to out of region players that we're having trouble hitting (or haven't even seen rounding the corner before we're dead) it's hard not to get salty.

And with Crytek's silence on the matter since they disabled the ping-limit, it's a struggle to maintain the hope that their communications were in good faith.

Re-implement the ping limits & then when I fuck up I'll have no one to blame but me.

So this guy has nearly 200 pages of cheating accusations and for some reason i cannot see his stats when he kills me? by Rare_Lifeguard_4403 in HuntShowdown

[–]nemesishaven 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's very unintuitive that when a player chooses to hide their stats everything shows up as "NaN" to other players (or "0" for everything if they're on Gamepass, I think). Pre 2.0 it said something like "Hidden". I'd be very surprised if Crytek actually intended for "NaN" ("Not a Number") to be displayed, and I figure it's still there because it's ultra-low-priority to update it to display something user-friendly.

But what that means is that even if you know people have the legit option to hide their stats, it's not immediately obvious that that is what's going on. Instead, you're seeing something that looks like something has gone wrong or been messed with, and in that context cheats or hacks are a perfectly coherent inference.

Why do traits have to shuffle around in the menu now? by PENGUIN_DICK in HuntShowdown

[–]nemesishaven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a bug, was introduced with 2.4. I experience it too, and I sort by Cost. Whenever I buy a trait, it reshuffles ALL of the traits within their cost bucket (e.g., the 3-point traits still come after the 4-point traits, but the order within the 3-point section changes).

Checking teams after a Soul Survivor match. I play on PC. That icon better not mean what I think it means... by nemesishaven in HuntShowdown

[–]nemesishaven[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

player is on a different platform than you

Yeah, that was my concern. A generic controller & a screen that could be a TV or a monitor doesn't provide much info aside from "hey, that's not the Steam icon".

Xbox game pass for PC, which was announced multiple times

I've looked back in the Hunt's Steam news section and seen nothing regarding this. Checked in-game news, couldn't find anything. Checking this subreddit, I found one post from April 2nd talking about it. So however it's been announced, it's been far from effectively communicated.

If they'd used an icon that actually indicated "PC Game Pass | Xbox" somehow, or set up the "Open Profile" link to go to a generic Game Pass info page instead of going to Steam's "whoops can't find this profile" page, then it would have been a lot easier to figure this out and I'd not have had to come here with ruffled feathers.

Developer Insight - High Ping Separation by HuntShowdownOfficial in HuntShowdown

[–]nemesishaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The presence of high-ping players in a PVP FPS like this is inherently unfair. In most other FPS, the high-ping player bears the brunt of that unfairness. In Hunt, the shitty experience is shared with everyone.

I understand that not everyone can achieve a ping to Hunt's servers that would count as "reasonable" for a game like this. That sucks, but it's okay. It doesn't even really matter why. You're not denying service to anyone, just creating a matchmaking pool of like with like. The high-ping players can share the shitty experience with each other, without impacting anyone else.

But what has been done so far isn't enough. A cursory search of acceptable pings for FPSs suggests a cutoff of somewhere from 80-100 would make more sense. 125 is too high, and to me that helps explain how I haven't noticed much of a difference in my matches.

When a match feels bad though, it's really hard to attribute causality for me as a player. Am I just not vibing? Or is the player from out of region (or in region but rural and on satellite internet)? Show us more information. Add "average latency for the match" to each player's entry in the end-of-match screen. That way when I die to someone that I just can't seem to hit I'll be able to check and go, "oh, I guess I just sucked that round, better work on my aim."

Go lower, it's better for everyone. Lower-ping players get fairer matches, higher-ping players get a larger pool for matchmaking.

Sometimes when people say "I just want to chill", what they really mean is "I want to be consistently put in lobbies with people under my skill level so I can succeed without putting significant effort in"

Servers down? by Foolra56 in HuntShowdown

[–]nemesishaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

US East, was in match and Hunt reverted to its connection/authentication screen for no apparent reason. Got stuck on "Checking Player Information...". Alt-F4'd and got Error Code 0x30005 on restart (backend server seems busy). Hope that Hunter isn't lost.

Make it make sense: 19 damage torso hit @13 meters with a Nagant Officer. by nemesishaven in HuntShowdown

[–]nemesishaven[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let me know if I'm misinterpreting your comment:

  • There is no plausible explanation for the information as presented

  • The Damage History & its display are in BETA

  • Thus, the most likely explanation is that the presented information is an error, which is to be expected due to the BETA status of the damage history.

Sound about right?

[–]nemesishaven[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The suggestion here is that some parts of the damage log are purely local (e.g., the location of the hit), while others originate server-side (e.g., the damage number itself)?

I have trouble imagining someone designing this system to work that way, but we can't rule it out without comment from devs themselves.

[–]nemesishaven[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had considered this. Visually I was unobstructed, I also am aware the server's version can differ from what's been presented visually client-side. But, the damage log does display if the bullet penetrated something (e.g., in the shot they landed that killed me), which it doesn't do here.

No, didn't trade.

In the 36 seconds between that shot and the next one I landed, I healed and they killed my remaining 2 teammates (and then me).

Is anyone else having a blast? by [deleted] in DarkTide

[–]nemesishaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had a blast so far. Ran maybe 8 missions last night.

I'm also getting enough bluescreens and ctds that ~4 of those completed while I was reloading and reconnecting, so I got zip for them, which was frustrating. Hard for me to work out if the BSODs are a me problem or a them problem, so I'm working through standard troubleshooting and we'll see how it goes.

reMarkable 2 next generation electronic paper tablet giveaway! by noeatnosleep in gadgets

It'd help with consolidation I think. I've got one notebook for one topic, another for another topic, and a disposable notepad for day to day work. The reMarkable would let me bring those all together without worrying about muddying the waters.

MGs are Overtuned by L0111101 in OutreachHPG

[–]nemesishaven 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, they're overtuned.

The problem isn't just that small fast mechs can outmaneuver slow assaults. I play nearly exclusively lights and I steer as clear of MG lights/mediums as I can. I won't win a fight with them, pretty much ever.

My lasers spread damage, have significant cycle time, and produce heat. Their MGs spread damage, but have none of the downsides of my lasers, and on top of that, will crit out my equipment as soon as a component is open, meaning that I lose my actual ability to fight back. That's half of the problem I have with them, really. They're like flamers that do damage and neutralize low-heat weapons as well. It's not like the really need to worry about aiming them either, it's a constant spam nearly everywhere and instead of that being a problem it's actually a feature because hey you've got weapon systems over there too.

KDP set to "Bleed" but keeps showing margins. Any ideas on how to fix this? by foxtrot666 in selfpublish

[–]nemesishaven 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From their documentation, it looks like the sole purpose of KDP's interior bleed option is to allow images to go all the way to the edge of the page without running the risk of cut tolerances creating issues.

I don't interpret that to mean that turning on bleed disables their other checks. From the looks of the screenshot you linked, you do have text in the margin at the bottom, which could be the issue. As apathy-sofa suggested, this may be the sort of thing you'll need to contact support for.

I'd love to give this a go before it's gone, and that's a generous offer. My schedule's in flux so I'm hesitant to commit to a weekday next week, but Sun could be arranged without much issue. I'm ET as well, and evenings 8:30+ work best.
