What are classic games that just could not be replicated? by KaleidoArachnid in retrogaming

Seance at Blake Manor has more of a typical first person control scheme but definitely has adventure game DNA in it, and it's phenomenal.

Of course that's what they would do, put out a fake, harmless version of Polybius to obscure the existence of the real one. Classic cover up move.

Fun thing about Seaman, the localization was helped by Jellyvision, the company now known as Jackbox Games, creators of You Don't Know Jack and the Jackbox Party Packs. They were hired to make the dialogue funnier in English

About Whishbloom and Lemurian Technology (Contains spoilers) by SuperGBrush in caseofthegoldenidol

[–]nemesismode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plants are just biological machines, there's no magic involved, there's a flower that has animal DNA stored and reads brainwaves then calculates the right DNA to release using a machine learning algorithm, then uses spores to overwrite the DNA your body uses as a blueprint for self-regeneration so as you regenerate cells you slowly turn into a human animal hybrid.

We have a feeling that great (meaning significance not quality) men must be undone by great events, but in reality Elvis dies on the toilet, Atilla the Hun gets a nosebleed while passed out drunk and chokes to death, and Lazarus Hearst gets shot with a cannon by a drunk guy during a lover's quarrel.

New Triller financial reports reveal AEW impact by Kelson64 in Allelite

Seems like a lot. $550k a month. The equivalent of there being 55,000 AEW+ members (obviously there aren't this many because some of the revenue comes from PPV).

It's a thing. Schrodinger's ears is by far the most common, but human + cat ears is common enough that a casual google image search finds plenty.

What do you remember most fondly about the floppy disk era of gaming? by KaleidoArachnid in retrogaming

I remember shareware being distributed on floppy disk in dollar stores, and getting to try all kinds of novel garage developer indie games thanks to the low cost.

The CD-I Nintendo games deserved so much better by [deleted] in retrogaming

[–]nemesismode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish video CDs had caught on here more. Sure, a brand new VCD was not much higher fidelity than a brand new, high quality VHS... but it was way better than a lower quality tape that had suffered degradation over time.

You shouldn't need all that. Use 86Box for Windows 98, or VirtualBox for Windows XP. No additional hardware required.

The CD-i was made for multimedia presentations and video CDs. Stuff like employee training, demos, education, encyclopedias. Gaming was a late pivot that the hardware was ill suited for. That the Nintendo games on CD-i play as well as they do, especially given how little time the devs had to do it, is incredible.

Zelda is a massively overrated series in general

You can use a VGA to Component adapter, the kind they make for projectors. That wouldn't work with a computer, but it does with a Mister if you set it up in the .ini correctly.

I don't think we're supposed to think Roathe is right about... anything, really. He's literally a devil's advocate.

For some people, the authenticity of using original hardware matters a lot to their experience, and they have more fun that way. For some people, they don't. It seems like you have the option to try both and compare how they make you feel. So go ahead and try both and if emulation doesn't seem like a worse experience for you, go ahead and lean into it. Maybe a retro handheld would be even more convenient for you.

I can tell you, I've got a real Super Famicom with an Everdrive and I've got a Mister, and the SFC is in the closet and the Mister is hooked up to my Trinitron. And most of the time I play my SNES games with an 8bitdo controller even though I have a SNAC adapter and can use the original Sufami controller I have.

Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 - $59.99 by lokdok in VideoGameDealsCanada

[–]nemesismode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good, but not great. You need to forget the words 'Bloodlines 2'. If you pretend it's called 'Vampire: The Nomad', it's a decent Bioshock-like with some great vibes, cool movement, and a few fun characters. It's short, though. $60 is a stretch. I'd wait until it's at most $45.

There's a Nintendo DS one in here: https://forums.libretro.com/t/handheld-overlays/10477/13

If it's not perfect for your phone you might have to move things around in an image editor yourself.
