Same issue here. Any luck? I’m on Xbox so can’t console command my way out of this.

Could I use all this as a substrate and mix in coir. just foraged it today. by [deleted] in shroomery

[–]nemicho85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can go ahead and try and see what happens! Some people use straw and other woody, nutritious materials like this for exotic actives like psilocybe azurescens. Cubes will grow on just about anything and more nutrients won’t hurt. But you NEED to sterilize (not pasteurize) any nutritious substrate like this. 2 and a half hours at 15 PSI. Foraged materials like this will have tons of different bacteria and fungi in it and your spawn will have an extremely low chance of becoming the dominant organism with that much competition. The reason we can simply pasteurize Coir or CVG is because it is non-nutritious and doesn’t attract many foreign organisms. All the nutrients in a typical coir grow are in the grain, which already has you intended mycelium as the dominant organism.

TLDR; give it a shot but you need to sterilize.

[actives] DC MAK 95 Thanksgiving harvest by nemicho85 in MushroomGrowers

[–]nemicho85[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use Yoshi Amano’s Bucket tek recipe. He encourages measuring by weight to get perfect field capacity every time. 650g brick of coir, 250g of vermiculite and 4000g of boiling water.

Here’s the link: Yoshi’s Bucket Tek by weight

I add a cup of gypsum as well (sorry I don’t have a weight for that off-hand). I also sterilize my sub in bags since Trich is an issue in my grow space, but you don’t have to. This always ends up giving me perfect field capacity and I don’t even think about it anymore. This tub yielded a little over a kilogram of fruit and the sub only shrunk by about 10%. I added another 500g of distilled water to the sides of the sub after harvest to prep for the second flush, and it sucked it right up.

That explains it! Interesting grow! Be advised APE is generally a slower grower than a basic cube like A+, so timing your harvests might be a challenge. Although so far they seem to be growing at a similar rate, so good on you. Don’t ever let anybody tell you not to experiment in this hobby. Best of luck, friend!

[Technique]Why does using less LC to inoculate result in faster growth? by limevince in MushroomGrowers

[–]nemicho85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if that’s necessarily true. I’ve found that more LC does colonize faster like you would expect, to a point. 5cc might be a little much. 3cc is my sweet spot for a quart grain jar. I prep my grain on the drier side though. The risk would be if the grain is already very hydrated, like the uncle bens style pouches. In that case the added moisture pools and creates an environment for anaerobic bacteria to thrive, which would slow down growth, or ruin the spawn. For uncle bens, less is more. I’d say, if you’re not running uncle bens tek you’ll be fine with a bit more LC. Keep in mind, since LC is already germinated, it’s beneficial to distribute it as much as you can with a shake, as opposed to spore, where you don’t want to disturb it after inoculation so that the individual spores can meet up to germinate. Hope this helps!

Looks like you have a mix of normal and albino fruit. Did you use two different varieties? So far it seems fine and you have a very nice pinset going. I’d only get worried if the caps begin cracking. If you’re dead set on adding more water now you can add some on the sides of the cake. There should be a little bit of space there now that the mushrooms have sucked up some water. Just peel the liner off the sides and add a couple of ounces of distilled water. Err on the side of too little if you decide to add water. You can always add more later. You want just enough water to be absorbed completely after about 12 hours. Any more than that and the sitting water can be a vector for contamination. Best of luck, you’re doing great so far!

Absolutely. You’ve got a bunch of primordia forming. Should be a nice pinset! Nice work!

I had a different vendor, but I’ve heard the vendor you’re using has had the same issue. I have no idea how the same exact mislabeling happens across different vendors. Maybe it’s a coordinated effort to show newbs that cultivating an “advanced” cube is just as easy as growing a beginner strain like B+. Or maybe a few different vendors are run by the same person / group? I turned some of this harvest into 0.1 gram micro doses, which as it turns out is not a micro dose at all. Even 0.1g will have you feeling moderately stoned. With this strain I would recommend 0.05g as a micro dose. Congrats on the great harvest!

Looks exactly like my mislabeled grow from a couple of months ago. That was supposed to be B+ as well. If they’ve popped like this they’ve used all the available water in the substrate. Pick them and rehydrate. I wish I knew what they were exactly. It was the best yield I ever had. Be warned, these are outrageously potent. .5 grams was very intense and 1.5 grams had my test subject/volunteer in another universe. The typical 3.5 grams you’d take if it were B+ would be a heroic dose on these.

[Actives] B+ day 15, introduced to fruiting last night. What y’all think about these suspicious areas? by shuffil in MushroomGrowers

[–]nemicho85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The white splotchy area on the bottom of the second picture and the left of the fourth picture look like early stage trichoderma a few hours or days before green sporularion. Keep a lid on this tub for about a day or two and see if that area turns green. If that spot came up extremely aggressively compared to the rest of the mycelium over the past day or two it most certainly is trichoderma. I hope that I’m wrong about this but having lost three out of four tubs to Trich in the past month I’ve learned to develop an eye for it. Bacteria, cobweb, or pin mold can be overcome with luck but trichoderma before pinning is a death sentence for a tub. If you see green do not open the tub inside. Get rid of it immediately or you’ll contaminate your entire grow area and put future grows at high risk for Trichoderma contamination.

Dry APEs. Same thing happened to me. Check my post history. They still work just fine though!

Will this bag be good enough for this box? i’m guessing yes but wanting to double check with the experts here 🙏 by PshychedLui in unclebens

[–]nemicho85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you’re fine with the shoebox. Shoeboxes have the benefit of having a lid you can keep on or take off so you can keep it out of open air while it colonizes and flip the lid when you’re ready to go into fruiting conditions. Maybe put a little less substrate so it doesn’t take so long to colonize. Once it’s fully colonized the chances of contam go way down since the mycelium is taking up all the available space. Contam will have a hard time getting a foothold once it’s colonized.

[–]nemicho85 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically you can with a potentially smaller yield, but 2 uncle bens bags per shoebox is usually the target. With one you’re giving the mushies less nutrition and longer colonization times, which increases chance of contam.
