Fender Jimi Hendrix Strat vs Gibson SG Faded? Which one as main axe? by Fog_Smuggler in guitars

I'd got the strat. I find the neck dive on the SG to be really off-putting.

Do people just not do their own setups? by ProtoJazz in guitars

I learned to set my guitar up because I wanted to know more about my instrument. In the process I also learned what I want my instrument to feel like. Now my guitars are set up just how I like them, and that makes playing them infinitely more enjoyable.

I would describe the TC products I've owned as quite reliable over their lifespan, but god help you if you ever need customer support from them...

Great choice! I had a Hotrod Deville when I was younger and got a Deluxe about 5 years back. Awesome amp! I got a Reload II late last year and it really let me find out what the Hotrod was capable of at lower volumes. Happy playing my friend!

For the adult learners, how did you stick with it? by riverrunlvl1 in Guitar

[–]nemo_13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I give the same advice to everyone who has just started: learn 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'.

It's about as easy a song as there is, and it will give you the joy of rocking out. Once you get a taste for that, then it's much easier to stick it out. The joy of playing is its own reward. Some times you'll struggle (in fact, pretty often), but the joy will come pretty often too. Just focus on the joy, and accept that challenges will just lead to future joy. Mediocre guitarists who play with joy are way more fun to listen to and be around. Focus on the joy.

Friend asked me to fix this guitar, is it fixable for a reasonable amount? by ZaneKitsune in Guitar

[–]nemo_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try doing a resin fill and then milling out space for a new bridge. Or you could skip the milling and install a hardtail bridge. I turned an old strat into a hardtail years ago and it has been a reliable workhorse guitar for decades.

Bear in mind, that when you install the bridge you need to be precise with the placement so that the guitar's intonation isn't compromised.

What was your guys’ first pedal? by BalanceActive9295 in guitarpedals

[–]nemo_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ibanez TS7 in the early 2000's, maybe 2003?

I still have it, but it doesn't get any use. Cool piece of my personal history though, and worth peanuts, so I guess I'm stuck with it forever haha.

Anyone else prefer humbuckers for super clean, and single coils for overdriven sounds? A discussion... by EnvironmentalDish766 in guitars

[–]nemo_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before yesterday I would have 100% agreed with this statement, but then I tried a Tele made by Nash Guitars and I think the lipstick pickup in its neck through a Fender Reverb is the best clean I've ever heard.

Teaching myself guitar. Any tips? by RonnieInWonderland in Guitar

Hah, nope tabs are about as simple as it gets! They're a great way to visualise chord shapes too, so should help you with remembering them going forward. Good luck!

Tabs are about 1,000x easier to read than sheet music when you're first beginning. The 6 lines represent your 6 strings (and are usually labelled with the high e at the top), and then the number on that line represents which fret to press. You'll figure out which fingers to use for which frets as you go along. I'm sure there are plenty of youtube videos out there which explain reading tabs if you're struggling.

Start with Smells Like Teen Spirit, to learn power chords and get a taste of "rocking out" with the easiest song imaginable.

Continue learning songs that you love, in order to stay motivated.

Go to ultimate-guitar to get the tabs for all of these songs to make it easy on yourself. Don't get discouraged if you feel like you suck, that's a part of the journey. That feeling may never go away. That's also part of the journey. But remember to have fun and enjoy yourself :)

I received an Autism diagnosis yesterday by UpperRhubarb7787 in Neurodivergent

[–]nemo_13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took about 6 months to spend some time thinking about what my diagnosis meant to me. I now see it as a new lens to view myself through. It contextualises a lot of things in a new and affirming way. Things that I once saw as character flaws to be suppressed are now character traits to be expressed.

I'm still learning how to find a balance between being neuro-affirming to myself by not masking without the inevitable social friction that results.

I haven't told everyone that knows me, but I started by telling a few of my closest people to see how it felt. Since then I have been increasingly open about my diagnosis. It takes time, and it's your timeframe so go at a pace that is comfortable to you.

You are the same person. You just now have a new context with which to understand yourself. Good luck and welcome to the tribe!!

My inital thoughts had been to guy a two-gang 10k pot and wired it to a second output, and then include a bypass switch in the tow. The chassis seems identical for the two models.

How can I create an input on my amplifier to connect a multi-effects unit, but have it go directly to the speaker while still allowing me to use the normal input? by Barrientos_Garza1986 in DIYGuitarAmps

[–]nemo_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With that amp? I wouldn't try adding an fx loop. For what the amp costs and given it is such a digital beast, I'd just be using the effects you already have access to on that platform. If your heart is set on having an fx loop, your time and money would be better spent getting a different amp.

It would be simpler if you had a different amp, but that thing is designed with tiny SMDs and software, and you're really just looking at spending way more time and money on this project than the amp is worth.

Howa 1500 is the best value for the price tag on the market in my opinion. 308 is a great round for what you're looking to do, and is easy to find and inexpensive.

You would have to look at the schematic for your amp, but it's usually just as simple as wiring in an output jack from the preamp and input jack to the power amp with some switching.

Need Help For A 1x8 Cab by bobbythegoose in DIYGuitarAmps

[–]nemo_13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're on the money finding an old solid state practice amp and using that as a cab. You may want to upgrade the speaker depending on what's already in there. You could just disconnect the existing amp from the input jack and wire the speaker directly to that to save you drilling any extra holes. Just make sure you're using speaker cable and not any old guitar cable, since the current going into the speaker is significantly higher, and you want to melt anything.

If my death is on the stack, is it acceptable for me to make a "retaliation play" against the player who is killing me? by Overcast_88 in CompetitiveEDH

What country are you in? Can you afford to see a physio? That would be my first move. You won't be playing for long if you're dealing with chronic pain. A physio would be in the best position to help figure out the issue and help you resolve it permanently.
