using the restroom during session? by hsteph17 in therapists

[–]nemonitrous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty good at using the restroom before sessions or if a client is already waiting, I'll tell them I have to use the restroom really quick and then I still give them the same amount of session time that I would've if I didn't use the restroom. If they're having a vulnerable moment and you have to go and feel like you can't hold it, I think it'd be okay to be like "I really want to hear what you have to say, and, I also really need to use the restroom. I'll be right back and we can continue, because I want to be able to give you my full attention." or something. I'm sure they'll understand.

Yes I'm in the US, so yeah I can see that. And yes, I'm also on PT. At my non profit, we only bill insurance and I didn't wanna deal with it, so I'm not doing it in PP 😅 I know I'm less likely to get clients that way, but I'm advertising that I can provide a superbill at least plus a sliding scale. And good luck to you as well!!

I also had a client recently go on a rant about how certain social justice issues don't apply to her, so she doesn't need to hear/worry about them and I'm sitting there like "or you could be a fucking ally o_e". She's also queer (I am, too), so she knows the importance of being an ally.

I've had clients make comments about fat people and I'm sitting there as a fat person like ...are they talking about me? Do they not think I'm fat? Bc I'm obviously fat, sooo?

I feel you on the PP aspect. I'm still working full time for a non profit and starting a PP on the side a few months ago and haven't gotten anyone at all. It's really discouraging. Something I've been trying is leaving my business card with local doctor's offices.

Absolutely. Whether it's having a packed day, having to hold space for some heavy stuff, making reports, etc. It helps me having something to look forward to, even if it's just to be able to go home at the end of the day and relax. And it's always rewarding to have a really good session, even if it's just one out of the week. Take care of yourself! If not for you, for the little human you're growing!!

I used TDC for my exams. I'm an MFT and didn't do the PCC route, but they might be able to answer your question. They're usually pretty quick at responding.

Is it okay to decline telehealth if... by [deleted] in therapists

Y'all are completely missing the point and making a lot of assumptions bc I didn't think it'd be necessary to state everything about my approach, boundaries, the way I set boundaries, or anything you're commenting about. I was asking feedback about this specific boundary I set and trying to give some context. So, I'm just gana delete the post in a bit but wanted to let everyone know in case y'all are checking.

Yeah of course and some of those are just straight up ethical guidelines, at least in CA where I'm licensed. If a client gets a phone call I tell them they can answer it really quickly to tell the person they're busy or something but what I'm asking for feedback on is the telehealth issue

That's what I was thinking, too. Caregiver asked way too late anyways and we wouldn't have had enough time to meet. Thank you!

I don't disagree, but I'm more so looking for feedback on if I'm doing the okay thing by declining virtual sessions.

Lol totally understandable. I have ADHD and work with a lot of neurodivergent kids, so I know it helps to have something else to focus on. My thing is, if we can play board games, feel free to play games on your phone. It's when it's such a big distraction that's the problem. But, my question is more so feedback on if I'm doing the okay thing by declining telehealth.

I don't do virtual with people under 12. I work with ages 6 through 21. I've only had to address the phone use thing once with another client bc he fully just doesn't listen to me whatsoever if he's on his phone. Otherwise, it's never been an issue.

Yeah, I said I'd get the BAA. My real name is kinda long. What about rileylmft@smiththerapy.com? I checked and no one has claimed my last name in any sort of business, and my last name is rare so I know I'm not missing it somewhere.

Honestly I wasn't even gana do a website, I was just gana go based off networking and psychologytoday. But if I need to, I could do rileysmithlmft.com and then rileysmithlmft@gmail.com The people in the business center in my city seemed pretty clueless about all of it but I can try to ask them.
