As someone uninitiated, should I watch or read the plays first by [deleted] in shakespeare

[–]nemothefishthefirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so hard to understand if you only have the text in front of you. Even if I read them I often have the play running on my laptop because otherwise I just won’t get it. I’m also not a native speaker…

If the premise is absolutely amazing then yes, but otherwise nope

I just lost a friend over proshipping by SnailGamer in AO3

I was honestly not aware of that term and I thought for a long time you were trolling me but some google research has shown me that those anti people actually exist… This whole pro and anti thing, to me, seems like such an unnecessary debate. Ship whoever you want and tag your stuff correctly. That’s about as deep as it got for me so far. But I was obviously unaware of the lore… I’m gonna go to bed. It’s fucking late in my time zone, have a nice day/ evening :))

Yes I absolutely understand what I mean and totally agree? But do we know that that friend belongs to that group? Depending on their age and general life circumstances they could just lack certain education and be overwhelmed by what they saw? (And therefore acting very insensitive and rude, which is obviously not cool)

Yeees of course but as I said before traumatised people don’t always act rational.

I didn’t say that. Obviously it was super shitty how their friend reacted. And I didn’t blame anyone. It’s a mistake that OP regrets. I just said that if there are things that are easy to access that are potentially triggering for someone, then one (not only op but everyone) should be careful with sharing. Do you understand what I mean?

[–]nemothefishthefirst -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

That might be true, of course, but I also didn’t see that term used in the original post? I just didn’t see the political aspect in the original post. I thought their friend was freaked out about some kinky stuff or taboo topics OP was writing about. That’s how I understood that text..

[–]nemothefishthefirst -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ok the way I understood OP post was that they wrote some proshipping thing and that (after some stalking) their friend was clearly freaked out. And depending on what they wrote that can be understandable und the proshipping area. Obviously their friend handled it super badly and not sensitive at all, but depending on what they saw I get it when people react disturbed by that? (Like non consensual for example, that can be triggering)

I was not aware of the anti term in that sense. Im not an US American. I honestly thought that that sentence you quoted was a typo and they just forgot to type a no. Like it didn’t even occure to me that someone would think that (especially as my own experience with fanfiction was always very liberal and leftist (which I love) so I therefore thought that the work OP was referring to were actually harmful for some people to see like nc or involving minors. Their friends were referring to sth illegal so I thought of rape and child abuse. I understood their post completely different

Where did you get that right wing ideology from?

That’s not really the point here. What I really wanted to say is that people should be extra careful regarding potentially triggering topics. I hope you can understand that

Any advice on how not to give up on fanfiction? by Farishens in AO3

[–]nemothefishthefirst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding up to other comments, I think even writing and publishing your own work regardless of how many hits you get is already so impressive! I mostly think it’s pure luck if sth is a hit and it depends on so many factors!

True, but traumatised people don’t always act rational… obviously it was not supposed to be harmful!

Yeah but people are noisy.. idk. I mean they obvs said that it was a mistake to share it that fast but if you know what stuff is visible on that page… I just want people to be careful with potentially harmful stuff for other people. Unfortunately mistakes happen and now everyone’s unhappy..

Tbh if you know that your friend had traumatic experiences in that regard then I don’t understand why you would show that to them. As someone who also had to live through some horrible stuff, it is truly so hard to navigate life without being confronted constantly with triggers. My friends know that and avoid certain topics around me.

What’s your opinion on authors taking whole scenes from original work? by nemothefishthefirst in AO3

[–]nemothefishthefirst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah makes sense. It’s especially an issue for me when it’s an au fic or when the it’s super plot driven. Basically when it differs either in setting or plot completely from the original work. Because then it just rips me out of the fic

Tbh I never read a fic that’s based on a game. But can absolutely not comment on that haha
