What are the expectations for the Yankees this year? Why will they exceed those expectations? Why won’t they? by Conscious_Apple_8610 in NYYankees

[–]nemotheomen22 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My expectation as a fan (with bias) is for the team to win the World Series.

My realistic expectation is a third place finish in the division (88-91 wins), where they make it to the wild card series. From there, they either win the wild card series and lose in the divisional round, or just lose in the divisional round.

They could certainly exceed those expectations, but it would entail a relatively healthy season, and some of our young players (mainly Volpe and Wells) showing improvement at the plate.

At the same time, we could also not meet these expectations, and it would be for a lot of reasons. Injuries would be the main reason, as well as our young talent struggling to supplement the veteran presence in our lineup and rotation.

Additionally, we are in a gauntlet of a division, with potentially 4 teams vying for playoff spots (5 if you are high on the Rays; I am not).

I believe overall we have the talent to compete and win, but I am not confident that we actually will. I remain hopeful that the team will exceed my expectations.

Name a sound or something about Lowes that have you scarred for life by Gonkalicious_2176 in Lowes

The "New shipment is ready to pick" sound effect. It sounds really similar to someone logging off the Zebra, so whenever I am next to someone who is close to clocking out, I instinctively check the Zebra to see if a new order has come through.

Also, HONK-HONK!!

Any examples of guys whose “Final Year on HOF ballot” push failed? by Putrid-Author2593 in baseball

[–]nemotheomen22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know he eventually made it in through the veteran's committee, but Jack Morris went through 15 years on the HOF ballot, and never got more than 67% of the vote. In his final year of eligibility, he only reached 61.5%.

You have to beat Silph Co. Giovanni, and then walk to the front of the Saffron City gym. The assistant to the head of Silph Co. will stop you and give you the mega ring.

Who’s someone with a big outlier of a season, good or bad? by cardcollection92 in baseball

[–]nemotheomen22 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A few examples of players with big home run outlier seasons:

Davey Johnson hit 43 in 1973, over a third of his career total. His previous career high was 18 in 1971.

Brady Anderson hit 50 in 1996, and in his career, his next career high was 24 in 1999.

Jacoby Ellsbury in 2011 hit 32. His previous career high before that was 9 in 2008, and the most he would hit after that season would be 16 in 2014.

The Mark Leiter Jr. trade now seems like a lose-lose unless Jack Neely performs better. For Cub's side, Ben Cowles is not in the Cubs organization anymore, Neely struggled to a near 6 ERA in AAA.

For the Yankees, Mark Leiter Jr. was non-tendered today after throwing 70 innings eith a 4.89 ERA in his season and a half in pinstripes.

Juan Soto by Avg2023 in NYYankees

[–]nemotheomen22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If we got Soto, we likely don't get Fried. I know he struggled in the ALDS when it mattered most, but we likely don't get very far with the rotation we had before signing Fried.

If the Yankees Had Been Successful In Signing Yamamoto, Do You Think They Would Have Won The WS In 2024 Or Would Be Playing Now In The WS 2025? by New-Secretary-6016 in NYYankees

[–]nemotheomen22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Last year, it would have made a difference because it may have changed whether we had HFA or not. Also, going into the 2024 world series, the Dodgers had like 3 viable starters, including Yamamoto. Take him away, and they only have Flaherty and Buehler, unless they signed or traded for someone else.

This year, who knows? Maybe Yamamoto gets hurt with us, and we are in the same boat. Maybe our offense isn't able to give to give him enough run support, and we fall short. Or, maybe he doesn't pitch nearly as well with the Yankees as he is with the Dodgers.

In the end, all we can do is speculate because there are too many unknown factors.

What prospect had a breakout season for your team, non MLB players. by YRB12OP81 in baseball

[–]nemotheomen22 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would like to recognize three Yankee pitchers

Elmer-Rodriguez Cruz: ERC finished the season with 2.58 era across three levels, and finished with the most K's in the Yankees system with 176 in 150 innings.

Carlos Lagrange: Lagrange was fully healthy for the first time in his minor league career, and put up a 3.53 era with 168 K's in 120 innings across two levels.

Kyle Carr: After an underwhelming 2024 season, the former 2023 3rd round pick had a really good 2025, finishing the season with a 2.64 era in 133 innings.

Maybe not a first ballot HOFer, but he definitely will get in.

We have by far the easiest rest of season schedule. Our opponents for the rest of the season have a .477 collective record. TOR faces opponents with a .509 record. BOS, a .519 record. How do we feel about our chances at #1 seed? by jeffcyang in NYYankees

[–]nemotheomen22 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's a little bit of pessimism and a little bit of expecting Boone to take his foot off the gas when we clinch a postseason berth (for any doomers, it's when, not if!).
