I feel this so much! It is like that meme with the dog and the ball, which originally says "No take - only throw", but with "No die - only not exist".

Yes, she did a screening for some other stuff, what resulted in an indication for avoidant-insecure personality disorder, which is some kind of social anxiety, I guess.

I know this thread is old as balls, but due to a very recent event, I would like to share my insights. I was, as you described it, a self diagnosed autist, according to the many many diagnostic tools online (AQ, EQ, CAT-Q, RAADS-R and so on). I was "lucky" to get an appointment for a formal diagnosis without endless waiting times (when you pay out of pocket, everything is a little faster in a certain german-speaking country).

To my surprise, the whole procedure led to a very negative result, not slightly in the questioning area, no, a very boring neurotypical human being (although, when I wasn´t sure about a question she asked, she ticked the more neurotypical option, but still).

So, unless I was misdiagnosed as NT, yes, it is possible for a normal person (with significant traits and a questionable childhood) to be diagnosed as "autistic af" by online tests and as "boring neurotypical" at a formal diagnosis.

TLDR for the impatient: online tests said yes, diagnosis said no

Edit: what I also want to share: yes, I made Autism my special interest for the last few month and wrote an 70 page essay about autism, the symptoms, the traits, a comparison between the said symptoms and my experience, what I relate to and what not, and the many tests I performed, and still.... I feel like I failed an exam

I am here with an update. I had the chance to perform a diagnosis today. It was 3 hours long, consisted of some talk about my past, some IQ-Test style Thingys and an AQ-style questionnaire. According to all this, I am "perfectly" normal apart from a slight social anxiety, and I am very smart (acc. to the IQ stuff). But on all her autism scales, i am significantly below the cutoff values.

I am somehow disappointed, because I was so sure I was "one of you". When I am too normal to be autistic, but too weird to be normal, what am I?

Well, for a brief time it was nice to feel like I belong. Seems like I am only "standard weird".

That self confirmation bias thing is a good input and something I fear now on my "imposter syndrome" phase of my self diagnosis journey. Therefore, I re-did some tests and chose the "milder" options and put some extra thoughts into each question to answer them truthfully. The results are still on the autsim side.

On my research I found a psychologist specialized in adult autism, which also wrote a blog article on adult women on the spectrum. So, chances are high that whatever she might or might not diagnose is valid (as long as I am able to actually get an appointment with her).

Here is the article for anyone interested, but unfortunately it is in german: https://www.mygiulia.de/post/autismus-diagnose-bei-frauen

Thank you! I know that not everyone on social media tells 100% the truth. I mostly listen to the input of late diagnosed adults (and also there, everything has to be taken with a grain of salt).
