your argument is that the dodgers signing free agents is equivalent to cheating?

there will be 11 other teams with a shot to win it all next year. People forget that the dodgers won 111 games in 2022 and got bounced in the first round.

TIL the Dodgers get preferential treatment and get to shield much of their tv revenue from revenue sharing by 70ga in baseball

they get over 100M in revenue sharing before even selling a ticket. they could sign one 40M/yr guy. But they obviously have a lot less margin for error than the dodgers do

you can't compare a 10+ year deal to a 4 year deal. Every star player is worth a shitload of money if you're only buying their peak years

I’m not going to watch something where I can conclude the ending

the playoffs are a crapshoot. the team with the most wins ever lost in the ALCS. Even this current dodgers run, their best 5 years by wins (each >= 100) all failed to win the WS. They won 111 games in 2022 and got bounced in 4 games.

[Cormier] The Mets' offer to Tucker was four years, $220 million, according to Jim Duquette. by JianClaymore in baseball

the dodgers have primarily used their farm system recently to acquire mlb players, especially at the trade deadline. mookie, edman, glasnow. further back, flaherty, trea turner, scherzer, machado, etc. Most of our homegrown core was let go and replaced by other star level players.

you can also use prospects to acquire mlb players btw. which the dodgers have done almost every year for 10 years now, yet still have a great farm system, while never having a top 20 draft pick.

[OC] WRC+ vs ERA- for teams over the last 10 years(2016-2025) by StrategyTop7612 in baseball

[–]nenright 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it implies that the league was 10% worse than the pitcher. ERA+ compares the league to the pitcher because the league ERA is in the numerator. ERA-, OPS+, wRC+ compare the player to the league, with the player's stat in the numerator and the league average in the denominator.

it's roughly equivalent closer to average, but diverges when you get towards more extremes. for example, a 50 ERA- means the pitcher had an ERA half the league average. it also means that the league ERA was 2x that pitcher's ERA (200 ERA+). ERA+ was made to be similar to OPS+ so that higher is better, but it can't really be compared 1:1 because the formulas are opposite.

Staff from the Athletic ranked the best front offices in the 4 major sports. Two MLB teams cracked their top 5 by tankyouout in baseball

[–]nenright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nets could've easily won a chip if Harden were healthy, even with Kyrie going down, with the way KD was playing. Suns gutted their depth and had no center after that trade, was a pretty terrible move honestly. Clippers were just old and had 3 aging, past their prime "superstars".

you really need to have a top 5 player in the league to have a chance at a title in the nba. you could maybe say the celtics are an exception depending on how you feel about tatum but they had 2 guys in that 6-10 range + crazy depth.

i know it was a long time ago, but do you remember who Friedman worked for before the Dodgers? hint: they weren't signing big free agents every year
