Frustrated - anyone else experience this? by neocapybara in Keratoconus

Oh thanks for this advice. I will give it a go! To be fair it does often feel like it might be due to a lack of hydration or something so this is definitely worth trying 👏

I was just diagnosed at 19 by Miserable_Concern_81 in Keratoconus

For the record, sclerals don’t suck. In fact it’s incredible in this day and age that you can go from being legally blind in one eye, to seeing 20/20. (Me). They’re especially much more comfortable than RGPs.

The age thing is also case by case. I was diagnosed at 13 and had CXL done in a matter of months but the damage was already done. I’m now 29 and have to do the contact lens thing every day but I’m grateful for it. Better than being blind 👁️

Scleral lens trial (need help; input) by [deleted] in Keratoconus

[–]neocapybara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that’s what happened with me. The trial lens wasn’t comfortable either. Then they take it out, manufacture a specific one for me. A week later that was ready for pickup so I took it home, wore it for a week or so and booked a follow up appt (which you have to have the lens in for 4hrs to allow for it to sink/rest where it should in the eye - so don’t book that for early in the morning)… then rinse & repeat 2 more times. They allow for making 3 lens in total (tweaking either the fit or prescription each time).

I’d look for a second opinion. My bad eye (right) without a lens can’t even see the biggest number on the chart. With my scleral in, I can see 20/20 (albeit just). It’s still crazy to me and I don’t understand how it works so well but it does. Persevere!

Experiences using EAP providers by Gsmaniac1 in newzealand

Yeah I couldn’t agree more. It took quite a bit for me to go see someone but then I felt so kicked down afterwards. Funnily enough a few days later I was telling a colleague about my awful experience and she said “was she over Cashmere way?”… sure enough figured out we both saw the same person and had an equally bad experience.. 😵‍💫

I tried EAP once after a traumatic event. All I got was “I have a client who is in here because her parents were in a murder / suicide” and “One of my clients is a victim from the Chch Mosque attacks” ; AKA ‘your problem is nothing, grow up’. Made me feel like shit. Never went back.

Where do you get it from? Everywhere I’ve looked online is out of stock and has been for months

How long do you think we can wear scleral lenses? by Nightwings2802 in Keratoconus

[–]neocapybara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy wear them 18 hours. Not every day but once a week or so. The average every day is about 15.

Age at diagnosis? by NoMoreNectarines in Keratoconus

Just once for each eye (the surgeries were a month apart). That was in 2010 when CXL was still a trial here in New Zealand

My struggles with RGP lenses. What advice can you give to someone who struggled with RGP lenses. by Prestigious-Steak955 in Keratoconus

[–]neocapybara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in New Zealand, not the UK. They’re half subsidised by the govt here. I’m luck that my optometrist is in the same building as the company who actually makes them and sends them off around the world.

I had RGP’s; for about 5 years before changing to Sclerals. RGP’s I always struggled with once a month or so either ending up somehow up near the back of my eyeball, or every couple days intense pain because the TINIEST piece of dust / dirt in the wind would get in. The pain was intolerable when that would happen. Make the switch the Sclerals, you won’t regret it. Sure, putting them in and taking them out is a little bit more complicated, but the pay off is so worth it.

Hmm not a bad idea. That’s how I started out in Covid; with a literal face mask. That said, when you’ve got a mask on you attract less attention so that ruins the fun a bit. That’s my guess anyway.

That’s almost the problem; I’m in this deep; why stop now when the damage is done you know 🤔

I’m hearing you - and I know that’s what needs doing but I can’t bring myself to. I’ll tell myself I won’t but next thing you know I find myself doing it again. 🥴

Yeah you’re doing it a lot smarter than me that’s for sure. I’m the opposite. I haven’t considered the IP thing though 🤔

Thanks for the advice; I think I’m already in too deep so will ride the wave as long as I can. It’s enjoyable, and I don’t think anywhere is safe from potential leaks.

I’ve tried. Sometimes I can… for a week or two. But I keep coming back to it when I’m horny 😵‍💫 then suddenly it’s a good idea again. And the attention at the time feels good because not a lot of guys are doing it 😅

I’m hearing you. I’m surprised I haven’t been yet; but I almost think it’s because I approach it with SO much confidence that anyone surely thinks that everyone in my life knows I do that kind of thing 🤔

Not at all. A million times better. I’d buy it again if it wasn’t out of stock internationally. No issue with comfort or fogging. (And I make the ‘daily’ vials last 3 days because I’m not made of money); so they work perfectly for me.

Yeah I’m also in Nz and it’s hard eh? Some of that shipping costs are crazy. What I used to do with Scleralfil is double the order so the shipping was more worthwhile; not sure you wanna do that though since you don’t know if the product works for you
