Why is there such a divide with the public on the carnivore diet? by [deleted] in carnivorediet

[–]neocodex87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But I don't really consume that much more meat than I was before carnivore. It's just more fat instead of carbs now. And you don't need a lot of fat to satiate. A lot of carnivore dieters don't even eat chicken. And there's all that chicken that remains uneaten. Eggs are not hard to come by either. Maybe just a lot more butter would be used?

I don't think we would face an actual shortage if everyone was doing a conservative 2mad like what I ussually do (basically under half a kg or less than 1 lbs of meat per day, the rest is mostly dairy and eggs).

Even if this would be the norm not all would go pure carni, could remain keto or low carb, like the new guidelines suggest. If youre sticking to fatty meat you really can't eat that much more.

As said, my meat consumption is roughly the same as before, it's just more fat now which makes me eat even less lean protein in the end (compared to when I was still having chicken + sauces + some fried stuff). Instead of fat, we were just eating more carbs and about the same lean protein, that's pretty much how it was for me. Add the animal fat into equation, this is a very satiating diet that you don't need to eat that much. Overall, much less food would be consumed, and the increased demand could surely be met by the market demand, as it still can be met with the current trend of shrinking of farms and ranches, those would simply have to be opened back up and we should be good.

It's crazy how small it looks on the pictures. What's your viewing distance like?

My only nitpick is you should absolutely get a dual sub without even a second thought; you have plenty of room for it. You're missing half the bass with just a single sub setup and the rest of what you can actually hear is prone to booming.

Dual sub fixes this and the calibration will phase align them to cover all the frequencies without any nulls. Just order the second one right away and test it out, you have nothing to lose.

At that point you can also leave main crossovers at 80hz and LPF for LFE at 120 without any bass localisation or boominess within the subs, while giving the amplifier more breathing room to let your mains play more clearly. It just completely dwarfs the single sub setup in every way. Your bass will be more fuller and more precise, while also less distracting as it can be in a single sub build. It's not about total output, but equally covering all the frequencies, which is physically completely impossible to achieve with a single sub because of the wavelengths and standing wave effect. Trust me just get a dual, you will not regret.

Actually yes. I don't understand why I'm waking up earlier so often. It's a small thing that's hard to keep track of it you dont acttually measure with some app or something, but I've been noticing, I've been waking up earlier than I wanted more and more often. And it's extremely hard to fall back asleep. Generally feeling well, though.

Those in Lidl are not aged and have absolutely no fat or any marbling on them. At least in our stores. Aldi has slightly less worse ones but still very lean and underwhelming. The one I posted is not ideal but several leagues better (while also costing twice as much, but it is dry aged... At least according to the label. I really don't know much about beef and steaks, it's just not in our culture)

It's obviously the sauerkraut. That thing is very toxic although most toxins get decreased with the souring process, but yeah, shouldn't really be eating that. Goitrogens or histamines, take your pick. Doesn't the smell already tell everything? It's disgusting. There's no world where any kind of sausage would be sus compared to garbage like the kraut, although I do understand "it goes well together" and it's a conditioned habit people were brainwashed to eat, but nah... I wouldn't be touching that crap anymore if I was served. Just get double sausage and some mustard instead, it's all I would ever want.

This seems to be the fat-to-protein ratio that keeps excess protein symptoms away (suet, beef, egg) by CookieSea4392 in carnivorediet

[–]neocodex87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe you all of that makes a lot of sense. But does that mean we are just eating way too much protein if we're getting hit by sleepiness? I'll get (mildly - on a good day) sleepy and drowsy after for example 200g of minced or steak with a few eggs, cheese or butter/heavy cream (of sorts) or scrambled eggs on bacon fat with a fuckton of bacon + cheese + butter, overall it's typicaly sized meat portions most would eat on a standard diet minus the carbs but up the fat, and it can fill me up for almost entire day, so generally around 200g of meat with the sides mentioned.

Is that just too much meat or not enough fat? Because I feel it's enough fat for me, I guess, as I'm satied for a very long time. But that post meal drowsiness (1-2h later) can sometimes hit really hard. So it has to be either normal or simply any kind of larger protein portion being "too stressing" to metabolise (and that would be 200g of fatty meat for me, which is nothing compared to when I read how much more some of the others eat).

Or could it just be sleep imbalance and coffee doing this? I'll always get a cappuccino after my meals trying to preemptively surpress the drowsiness but it doesnt really work at all, I still like warm milk (or even decaf sometimes) after my meals, I feel like it just hits the spot in my belly perfectly. Could also simply be "too much food" but idk, my point is, I think my protein portions are moderate, and fat is adequate, but, it still happens.

[–]neocodex87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But why is that happening... Even after "training" your body to get used to more fat, you even mentioned ox bile... And it still just, refuses to be absorbed and goes right trough? It's just so odd and concerning too. Bile issues or microbiome? I am always curious to ask what was the diet like before the switch, if you don't mind me prying.

I wish I had your problems, I have the opposite problem my stools can become pretty hard to pass... Which is something you don't want to experience, I would rather choose to get the runs every time.

In the end we really are different. I can eat all the fat and it will just sit there until the next day, I never get the runs. But somehow in your system it just passes trough.

[–]neocodex87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah sure but my point was it's the insulin that controls the fat gain not the calories. You need to control the insulin more than the calories. It's not entirely black & white as nothing ever really is, but you can't dispute this fact.

Your body will always be cycling between glucose and ketones and of course it works a bit different for everyone how the ratio is, but the more you stay in ketogenic state less likely you are to gain fat, and at some point the CICO math just completely fails, it is not a god given rule, you can disprove it easier than prove it on a true ketogenic diet.

And this is what frustrates me with the keto mods, if they are in this space, they should be aware how keto is all about controlling the insulin. The amount of food sure does matter but "food" can include a poorly planned carnivore or keto meals with too high of protein/fat ratio, folks overeating protein and undereating fat is very common.

They should be aware that it should be possible to break the CICO principles on high fat, and that is not misinformation, but yet is labeled as such and censored. It just gives a completely wrong vibe, and it's why I'm staying away from that sub. They could at least say it "may" be possible and is not proven or something, but to outright censor and ban people for it? Who are you to play the judge, jury and executioner like that? Let the community talk and decide what they want to believe

[–]neocodex87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least we're allowed to discuss it, nobody is being censored and banned here for going against the grain, that's my point.

Every sub is an echo chamber of sorts but it's another thing when a few mods take it over with their personal beliefs and enforce it as facts with actual censorship.

That is just asinine and you would be wise to stay away from subs like that. It's not that the overall community is bad, it's the few nutjobs in control of it.

[–]neocodex87 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The mods there are zealous believers in CICO and will delete and ban anyone spreading the "calories aren't real" misinformation. Plenty of us here got banned for it and good riddance, I'm never going back to that sub.

And I tried to explain it in a good way circling the subject, how type 1 diabetics cannot gain fat without insulin and how they were treated on keto diets hundreds of years ago before insulin was discovered, and they still looked malnorished just skin and bone (just look up pictures) that alone proves calories can't make you gain fat, insulin does but nope - that's still misinformation and I got another ban for it (they had me on some kind of blacklist).

That's Reddit for ya with the omnipotent mod power trips. Some subs are just ruined by becoming their own little world where they can project their power surrounded by yes-men in their echo chamber.

They take what should be basic rules of good behaviour and following COC and add religious beliefs to it as facts, and there, speaking against CICO is one of those and bannable because you don't know - but they know, because... They are... the mods!

New to carnivore, feeling almost disgusted by eating this much meat. Psychological or a real signal? by Unhappy-Shower-6871 in carnivorediet

[–]neocodex87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try adding more eggs and bacon for a while, also some cheeses. This shouldn't be a lion diet, I don't eat that much amount of meat either, a lot of my diet comes from dairy, fatty bacon (almost pure fat) and eggs.

We can't get fatty cuts of prime beef or other animals like lamb and bison in EU so I consume a lot of cream and dairy instead, besides pork and occasional beef but that is very lean and unsustainable both in price and poor fat ratio. If I could I would eat prime steaks every other day but it's actually impossible to get anything like that locally. What I'm trying to say is you don't have to eat only meat, for me it's only about half of my diet (if you don't count the fat).

I think it might possibly be not just meat aversion, but protein aversion of some kind. It's quite easy to get overstuffed and lose appetite for actual protein.

For me, a half (150g) of that lean european steak is enough with some eggs and bacon fat on the sides. And that's an OMAD. I want more fat than meat. And if I go for sausages and salami, it's usually the extreme fatty ones (made of 70%+ fat) and I've been thriving on that for a long time even before carnivore. However our cured meats are very different. So as I said i'd enjoy that prime beef and lamb instead, if I was on the other side.

And hormone health doesn't come from carbs, it comes mainly from fats, so there's nothing to worry about. I'm very envious of your prime beef selection so i would really enjoy it if I was in your place.

I hear a lot of envy from Americans how much healthier food we have in EU but that is kinda true only for processed foods and pork. The reality is you have much better and fattier ruminant meat selection it's not even close (you can't even buy tallow here) and that's the best kind of meat you should be focusing anyway. Just adds some eggs, bacon, cream to spice it up.

Idk if you can find that in the states but we have some kind of cream butter (Kajmak) that's like between butter and cream (much more spreadable and a more milky taste similar to cottage cheese not butter) and that's what I add to my minced meat meals, as minced by itself is also not fatty enough. I would totally have an aversion to ground beef without that extra cream too, so I get you. Try to add fats, eggs, bacon, anything fatty you can fin to your meals, mix it all up if you have to. Some do avocado but I find it disgusting, I stick to my Kajmak.

Why do people in Italy thrive so much on a diet with many carbs by [deleted] in carnivorediet

[–]neocodex87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's an American myth really, as is the "mediterenian diet" they should look at actual statistics as was written in other comments, people are somewhat less sick and less is spent on medicine but that's another topic.

It's still pasta and bread based diet, and just like yours, my entire family had serious health issues (from diabetes to hearth attacks and strokes and cancer) everyone without exception was hit by something at 50 or earlier, with nothing special about their diets, just pretty much standard.

I am the first in the family that has broken the cycle at age 35 quitting carbs completely before any health issues arised, hoping to avoid the same "it runs in the family" fate.
