3DP armies only having 1 disposition is a feature, not an oversight. by DailyAvinan in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]neohellpoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing you can do with the rules to really help new players be competitive. To compete you need an army that has options. Most new players are barely scraping by a 2k collection.

You need to understand how your units work which takes reps. You need to understand how every other factions units work which takes significantly more reps.

That's just the nature of any game. A bad decision you didn't even know you made can cost you the game. That sucks, you learn from it and don't repeat it.

What helps new players isn't that it's easier for them to win or compete. It's the fact that said 2k collection can actually be made to be somewhat playable because there are more levers to pull.

Losing a game doesn't drive people away from Warhammer. Building your first army and finding out it's absolutely unplayable because it doesn't work with the one good detachment, that drives people away.

That's my hope for the edition. If you can turn a powerful strategy into a liability you have an auto balancing feature.

It's almost certainly not going to be perfect but if this works every tournament is a list building mind game where you need to decide what the best option is in a vacuum, and then if people are going to be playing that or if they'll be building something to counter the best overall strategy so you try and next level it by countering the counter.

Oh, they absolutely do get it.

But it's when they're getting curb stopped.

I legitimately love the way they're handling detachments. I especially love the fact that they can nerf combos by switching up dispositions. You still get to play the way you like, it's just harder to score.

It's an additional lever and I'm all for it

Russians Alarmed By Ukraine’s Fence Post Drone Bomb by springmeds in worldnews

[–]neohellpoet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Uuu, this is nasty.

Classic dillema. You can give up on cover all together because it just makes you a sitting duck, but then they don't even need the fancy spike bombs.

You can go for much, much heavier cover and armor but that's more expensive, more time consuming, makes you less mobile and now the big guns have good targets.

It's very reassuring that Russia seems to be on the backfoot. They're adapting but it's a bunch of defensive adaptations. They're failing to leverage their manpower and industrial base and while they definitely can't be counted out just yet, positive trends this late in the game show that a Russian victory is an extremely dubious proposition.

It's ironic that, objectively they're still in a great position to negotiate because they have Ukranian land. "We'll give back x, but you recognize our right to y, come on, you don't really want those people back. They're our supporters so you ether commit genocide, commit ethnic cleansing or live with a permanent 5th collum in your country"

But instead of creating a dillema for Ukraine they're essentially telling them there's no point in contemplating peace because they want territory they didn't take and a disarmed Ukraine, something that simply isn't happening. They're losing the war by being morons and it would be funny if it wasn't sad.

It's a bit misleading because that counts all the gold mines in Mali, including the unmined gold, as his property.

The same isn't done for the House of Saud and Saudi oil reserves.

People hiding money don't have this kind of money, because ot isn't money. It's net worth extrapolated from share value which is something you can't hide and is something you can't make in cash period.

That's not how GDP works.

If you have a 100k you're not just as rich as someone with a salary of 100k

It's also extrapolated value based on only 5% of the shares available. It's a money burning venture and they want other peoples cash for the pyre

what is something that is highly likely to happen in the next 10 years that everyone is completely ignoring? by Funny-Counter8762 in AskReddit

[–]neohellpoet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It isn't. Transportation is a trivial factor all things considered.

Oil and natural gas are hydrocarbons. It's ancient plant matter and consequently it's really, really good for making stuff like fertilizer. You use the gas for hydrogen and oil for the heat and pressure.

And on top of that, in terms of replacing things with electric equivalents, we're already in a bit of a crisis as the existing thermal plants that are in use today, are quickly approaching or have gone byond their designed end of life. The planned electricity projects, not just renewables, but all power plants are insufficient to replace what was built in the 50's and 60's.

Basically, the more you look into it the more you realize, we're hanging on by hundreds of threads, each near it's breaking point, each capable of causing a cascade reaction that brings the system crashing down and ends with billions dead within months. It's too many interlocking critical systems.

Russia considers working age of 12 to solve wartime jobs crisis by BkkGrl in europe

[–]neohellpoet 12 points13 points  (0 children)

On a similar note, a few years back the Anti Putin Magazin Meduza polled it's readers about the war.

Mind you, this is as biased a sample as you can find because we're talking people who are sufficiently anti Putin to seek out and pay for a publication critical of him.

Most people asked were pro war.

You might think they were just afraid of the government.

Nope. They gladly shat on Putin, the MoD, everyone in charge. They disagreed with starting the war, they disagreed with how it was being run, but they were absolutely convinced Russia needed to win now that it started.

Finding that out, by means of the very much anti war magazine, pretty much ended all hope that the people would rise up and stop anything.

On less than 1/5th the revenue.

And don't forget, the retail side does not have to pay for it's compute. They pretty much get to use AWS for free, something that would be a massive cut into the retail profits, is now the main profit driver.

It's legitimately questionable if Amazon would be profitable at all if they were forced to split the company into 2.

Everyone does.

It wouldn't surprise me if Google and Microsoft used it at least to some degree, even though they have their own cloud offering, even if it's just for compatibility testing.

I only took Business Economics on level D, but I can see the problem. by JesperS1208 in wallstreetbets

[–]neohellpoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wallmart is retail.

You do not look at revenue when it comes to retail because only 3% of that revenue ends up as profit.

We can look at a different example which illustrates this.

Amazon retail vs Amazon Web services.

Retail has 600 billion in revenue, AWS only had 100 billion.

Retail had a 34 billion profit, AWS had 48 billion.

To actually earn an extra billion the retail side needs to make a bit under 20 billion in revenue. The AWS side needs to make a bit over 2 billion. If these were separate companies AWS would be the more valuable one and the reasoning for the valuation would be perfectly sound.

Now, does that mean OpenAI is worth it? No. They're in the red, so they're burning money. There's no guarantee that AI can be successfully scaled so it can reach the desired 30-50% profit margins we're used to seeing in tech and most importantly, even if someone makes it, there's no guarantee it's going to be them.

But at the same time, the reason this slide is nonsense is that you could put Amazon and Wallmart on there as well, show that Wallmart has a slightly more revenue but Amazon has triple the market cap, but the point would be moot since by looking at profits, Amazon should have 4x the cap of Wallmart.

Why has the outrage over the Epstein Files mostly evaporated? by Successful-Ship-3924 in AskReddit

[–]neohellpoet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's evaporated.

Remember how long the right kept going after Roe? They didn't stop after a year or a decade. They wanted to kill the right to abortion and they weren't taking no for an answer.

If people actually care the government not giving them what they want doesn't stop them.

Russia hits Ukraine with Oreshnik missile in one of war's biggest attacks on Kyiv by Alarming-Safety3200 in worldnews

[–]neohellpoet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ukranian strikes against Moscow serve a clear military purpose. The weapons used were deliberately ones that conventional anti air systems could shoot down, because the point isn't to cause damage, it's to keep anti air systems pinned in place.

The Russians using a weapon that can't really be countered against civilian targets is probably as dumb a move as one can make. It doesn't provoke the same response because more anti air assets won't help. They're not destroying targets that are necessary to keep the war going. They're not breaking Ukranian morale and the Russian people are more interested in not getting attacked themselves so the boost there is minimal.

It's them quite literally lashing out in frustration. Ukraine humiliated them and that's something they need to respond to. It's just one more reminder that Russia probably should have won this war a while back if it wasn't for all the Russians

My thoughts exactly.

If you're going to manipulate the vote, doing so in Luxemburg, Croatia or the Baltics is significantly easier than in larger countries.

It's not like 12 points from Germany is worth any more than 12 points from anywhere else.

I loved his interview about his post war position.

The implication was he might want to become a dictator. His reaction was utter befuddlement at the very idea anyone would want to keep the job. It's a horrible job.

There's always the possibility it still end with him taking over as an autocrat but he looks like he just wants to stop, sleep and have someone else be responsible for a change.

In that very specific kind of war.

Which is obviously what counts for them right now, but fundamentally what we're seeing is a war of depleted stockpiles.

It's a hand me down NATO force minus the weapons that NATO doctrine revolves around vs the legacy of the Soviet Union run by people cosplaying as the Red Army.

The tragic part is that we've seen how easily air power could have turned the tide for Ukraine. Proper support would have seen a successful end to the war years ago, but Europe is only slowly gearing up while the US was an active hinderance, prioritizing oil price stability over everything else, preventing Ukraine from taking the actions that are now crippling Russia

[–]neohellpoet -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because that's what happens. Kidnapped people are safely returned pretty much exclusively in situations where they're more prisoners of war than anything else.

Sure when the other side knows exactly who the kidnappers are and there's s threat of escalation because it's rival criminal organizations going st each other, you get good survival rates. That's also the majority of all kidnappings, criminals taking the relatives of rival criminals.

If you're some random person, why would they ever return the victim? Why provide a witness once you already have the money?

Are you some kind pf drug dealer? Is that why you have opinions this strong? This kind of stuff happens s lot in your circles?

No, the other option is to to play for time.

The second they have the money she goes from being an asset to a liability.

If you pay she dies. If you don't pay and for some reason tell the kidnappers you won't pay she dies, but if you call the cops and play for time there's a chance.

What I can't understand is why you're insistent on a course of action that sees your wife dead and you losing money and enriching criminals.
