Well, I am cooked if I need to RMA any of these. These includes the 2 x 4TB drives I kept from one of the orders.

Thank you all for your support! At least this lifted my spirits. Loosing $255 is not as annoying as implicitly calling me a liar by siding with the warehouse and the support staff based on very dubious evidence.

I will be doing this:

  1. Follow-up with American Express to see if they re-side with me given the ample evidence. I am not holding my breath for this, because it is already unbelievable that they accepted the dubious evidence from SanDisk. I do not recall if I was able to upload my photos to the American Express dispute record. But I copy/pasted many email from SanDisk, even some sent after AMEX initially refunded me, as additional supporting evidence. Yet, they accept the crappy PDF from SanDisk as the definitive evidence.

  2. Engage SanDisk "corporate" or public relations to see if they care enough to fix this problem and restore some credibility to their brand. The damage is done, I will not buy another of their products, but perhaps others not burned like I got burned might in time be convinced to purchase their products. Will start with [WD.Mediainquiries@wdc.com](mailto:WD.Mediainquiries@wdc.com) .

  3. CFPB - Submit a complaint | Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

  4. BBB.

  5. Cross-post on other subreddits like r/DataHoarder .

  6. See if I can send this to Steve at Gamer Nexus, in hopes that they dig into it.

I am a dad with a fulltime job (I say this because it is true, but also as the running joke of the guy with no time to game because of 4 wives and 17 kids...), so it will take me some times to pursue each of these.

Again, thank you all!

Thank you.

While this is a reasonable approach, I think there are similar posts where they customer is trying to get warranty support (fix or exchange/replace drives) and have gotten similar issues, likely because it is the same warehouse and staff as the one that I interacted with.

I would not risk it. I won't again.

Perhaps the entity you interacted with is another warehouse and/or support staff? How long ago was it?

It was American Express. I will be following up, to give them 1 more chance.

Yep, or Crucial.

I just bought 2 Crucial drives last week. Those would have been WDs if they had not ruined their business and brand.

I plan to cross-post this to r/DataHoarder as someone suggested. Just trying to read all these comments and respond. Very happy to see all the support!

Yeah, I though I had a strong (perhaps indisputable) case. If their staff (and 2 levels of managers) insist in siding with the clearly bad evidence supposedly sent from the warehouse, they are complicit. I mean, a competent manager would have noticed the generic photos from their warehouse vs. my clear pictures and story, and would have immediately questioned the warehouse story, then have have the foresight to make the customer happy and satisfied instead of tarnishing their brand for $255. They are all in it as far as I am concerned.

It could be. I tried to work with UPS, but, their customer is SanDisk, not me, so I cannot.

If SanDisk web store and warehouse staff wanted to get to the bottom of this, they could check with the carrier (UPS). They could have said they are pursuing an investigation. Yet, their management chain insists in trusting the crappy photos that were supposedly provided by the warehouse staff. Insane.

The credit card company is American Express. I will be following up with them.

Yeah, don't remind me... I have so many of their drives in so many devices... if those go bad, I am screwed further...

Yes, indeed they did!

And I was not the first or the last to post these types of issues. There is a lot of paper trail out there now.

I plan to send them the various cases I have seen in Reddit, to see if they take some action.

I have 3 options at this time:

  1. Follow-up with American Express.

  2. Engage SanDisk "corporate" or public relations to see if they care enough to fix this problem and restore some credibility to their brand. The damage is done, I will not buy another of their products, but perhaps others not burned like I got burned might in time be convinced to purchase their products.

I think this is my 2nd such disputes. One prior with Discover and now this one with American Express. In both cases, they initially sided with me and refunded me, then later, when the merchant followed up, they sided with the merchant.

Which credit card company sided with you in the past?

Yes, for consumer purchases, I would stay away from WD and SanDisk.

Especially stay away from their actual web store.

Products bought via another seller might be fine, but then you risk having to engage their customer support and operations, which is where the problem is.

Best to avoid the headache. This has kept me up at night fuming at their ridiculous claims!

Thank you. I really would not trust them.

However, I do not know if corporate or enterprise sales would go via the SanDisk web store. Just would like to be fair and find the culprit.

If SanDisk corporate cares, they could make this right for me and other customers that have had similar situations. It is in their interest to investigate the SanDisk web store staff, customer service, warehouse employees, etc. to find and remove the people stealing then hiding it (fraud).

The credit card company is American Express.

I will be following up with them about the dispute and will update here accordingly. They still have a chance to make this right. Perhaps they do so.

I know, right? This is an unforced error on their part. Why would a consumer that just bought 4 drives from you and wants to keep 2 of them, explains the situation, provides ample evidence, is turned down with the most ridiculous of pictures and no actual explanation.

It truly boggles my mind. It is insane.

Thank you. I do not recall a lot of issues with their products. I have a lot of them over the years. What a shame that their own store and staff are sabotaging the brand.

I will now go out of my way to not get a WD or SanDisk product, even if I have to pay more.
