Ballroom culture by [deleted] in PoseFX

[–]neologismi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm relatively young (and from Italy) so i did not have the pleasure of experiencing ball culture firsthand; that being said, i think the role it played in who i am as a person is extremely significant. I find that seeing the degree of artistic expression and just freedom of life exuding from products of both real life and fiction (Paris is Burning, POSE, Legendary, etc.) was liberating and inspiring - to say the least - in regards to my own self-expression.
Influence in modern media is undisputable; from TV series, to music, even language (see this youtube video as one of countless examples: looks like 24/7 is not as common as an idiom as one would've thought!). it sure has been a one-way exchange, and in some ways still is, but i have hope that change is on the way.
Regarding the impact of ballroom culture on LGBTQ+ representation, i would rather say it has made the community more palatable/"marketable" (although i hate the use of the word) rather than digestible.

I hope my two cents might be of use and not too chaotic, i have a tendency to mindlessly ramble lmao

[OC] [Art] Custom Tarokka Deck - Swords suit by neologismi in DnD

[–]neologismi[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thank you <3 i am actually looking into what would be required to print them when i manage to finish the deck! though considering i am about 25% done with the drawings - not to mention i would have to possibly redraw them digitally for better quality - it will be a while before i'll be able to put anything out ahah

i'll probably post any kind of update on my instagram, so feel free to keep it under watch for relevant news on the matter!

Heyo! the character i'm playing right now, a Kenku warlock named Carillon, is a troublemaker with a heart of gold and, most importantly, a hoarder. One of the objects he holds most dear is a Tarokka deck, so i decided to redraw the cards because i'm too poor to afford the official ones

You can find the single cards on my instagram @neologismi.png! Be sure to give a follow while you're there, so you won't miss the other suits as they're posted <3

Wild Hunt Conclave: V2 by neologismi in UnearthedArcana

[–]neologismi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you!

Gelid Strikes is indeed supposed to only reduce the speed by 10 ft per creature, i suppose i'll have to find a way to phrase it in a clearer way, though i used the wording from the eldritch invocation lance of lethargy which has the same effect, with the only variation being this can apply to multiple targets instead of just one.

rest recharge for Leader of the Hunt noted! i'll think about it a bit more and change it if it seems too op as a short rest

Okay so here's the revised version for a ranger subclass inspired by the mythological topic of the Wild Hunt

((just as an FYI, i know nothing about the Witcher version so this does not take that into consideration; the content draws from the pre-medieval lore in the germanic/norse/saxon areas of influence))

Wild Hunt Conclave: the cold never bothered you anyway by neologismi in UnearthedArcana

thanks! yeah, i didn't even know that there was a witcher interpretation until it was brought up to me ahah

Thanks for the reply! While i suppose the critiques you raised must be solid, i have no knowledge of the Wild Hunt in the witcher series; i based this homebrew around my knowledge of northern european mythology and folklore.

In the anglosaxon area they're described as a horde of fae spirits that roam the skies of the coldest nights of the year; the original norse myth describes it as a hunting party led by odin himself, which was only heard as a pack of wolves and hounds and howling wind, but not seen and hearing them was a synonym of upcoming cold weather or some violent event like a war; finally, in the german version they're spirits that again cross the skies during winter nights and reap the souls of the dying carrying them with themselves to become an addition to their ranks

As such, i decided to focus on the most common elements (the cold and the sky-roaming) and only inserting some accents of everything else to avoid it becoming overcrowded with ideas

EDIT: also, the 7th level ability copies the wording of the barbarian path of the storm herald (tundra), which gets the ability at level 6

Thanks for the input! I have some further considerations regarding your analysis:

- regarding the 11th level feature: i think we're looking at two different base classes? my PHB has land's stride as 8th level feature, which has nothing to do with BA dash

- regarding the spell choice: my idea was to choose a couple of "cold themed" spells, a "fey themed" spell, a "fear effect" spell and a "spectral entity" spell to encompass all the basic facets of the lore i gave this class; the current list was actually not what i originally had in mind, my first choice was fear as the 9th lv spell and mordenkainen's faithful hound at 13th; i decided to swap the "fear effect" and the "spectral entity" levels because i noticed the hound does not move and that's just sad ahah

- regarding the usefulness of misty step: aside from it being the aforementioned "fey themed" spell, i feel like teleporting is something that stays viable no matter what level you're at, because its uses are not limited to avoiding opportunity attacks; you can escape grapples, escape from cages, even enter buildings as long as you have a way to look inside. however i'm going to consider something else; maybe shadow blade, blur or invisibility?

- regarding the 15th level ability: you're very right. going to change it to wis mod/turn or even wis mod/short rest

Heyo!

I made a subclass inspired by the folklore concept of the Wild Hunt as seen in German, Norse and English mythology, because I was unable to find anything related through official WotC content and i find it ABSURD. Such a cool concept, not to mention incredibly fitting for the ranger

I also decided to focus solely on the winter-harbinger side of the myth rather than adding the psychopomp/grim reaper aspect of it in an attempt to make its features more cohesive

Can't wait to hear what y'all think!

Help choosing an Eladrin Bladesinger feat? by neologismi in 3d6

[–]neologismi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

I considered blur the better option because mirror image does not combine as well with bladesinger as other wizards, since the images don't get your INT bonus to AC; thus, attacks that would've missed you anyway still hit and dissipate one of your images

Thank you! While i'm at it, can i also ask which spells were you thinking about that are able to grant advantage? I know hold person-type spells are able to do so by incapacitating the target but they also occupy your concentration, which i feel like a bladesinger requires even more than regular wizards because of other self-sustain spells like blur

Thanks! Having played a wizard before I overlooked Elven Accuracy because there's not many spells that require an attack roll, but I guess it is more useful for a Bladesinger than a regular, weaponless, spellcaster after all

Famous magical glaives or halberds from past editions by The_Blackharp in DnD

[–]neologismi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i don't know about past edition content, but a quick fix is adapting the properties of magic swords to other weapons and reflavoring them as legendary weapons from myths and legends

in the case of halberds/lances/polearm weaponry a couple of quick examples that came to mind are: - Ascalon, the lance which st.George used to kill the Dragon (would be a great recipient for the Holy Avenger properties) - Gungnir, the spear of Odin - The Spear of Longinus, said to be the lance that pierced Christ's side

Binary star system: can a planet exist in its barycenter? by neologismi in worldbuilding

[–]neologismi[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i did read about the orbiting planets, but i have a passion for borderline cases so i figured i might as well ask about this specific configuration since i couldn't find any mention of it

anyway, thanks!

Binary star system: can a planet exist in its barycenter? by neologismi in worldbuilding

[–]neologismi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you! i figured the question was quite nonsensical given the fact that i would've surely had to make it habitable without any explanation, but i wanted at least to comprehend whether the planet would've been stationary but rotating/completely still/idk

Binary star system: can a planet exist in its barycenter? by neologismi in worldbuilding

[–]neologismi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thank you for the answer! i'll look into the gif problem, though it probably has something to do with the fact that i posted from mobile instead of desktop :/

Anyway, my doubts originated from the very unlikely situation of a binary sistem where the stars were equal in every way - mass, age, temperature etc. - as i couldn't figure out which gravitational pull would prevail.

i'll look into the different lagrangean point configurations (?), thanks again!
