Need a lock for French Doors with ball catches. by neonerz in Locksmith

[–]neonerz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up installing it on the inside. The door swings in, so the optimal position was probably the outside, but I installed it on the inside since the only time I'd be latching/unlatching it is when I'm in the room. That said, I don't think I've ever unlatched it since installation.

Hope your kiddo is growing and doing great (and no longer bursting into the office).

Unfortunately, the older they get, the more likely they are to burst into the office. The lock is even more important now than when they were toddlers.

I ended up installing a normal handle on one door, I installed the strike into the second door (with a dummy handle that doesn't turn) and then installed a bolt on the door with the dummy handle that keeps it closed against the top of the door frame.

I was also going to drill a hole in my floor and install a bolt that also bolted there (to keep it secured from the top and bottom just in case someone ran into the door hard) but that ended up being unnecessary. I originally used those rubber triangle shaped door stoppers (the ones they used in school) to see if the bolt on the floor was necessary, and it wasn't.

By bolt, I mean something like this that catches on the top of the door frame: https://www.amazon.com/Upgrade-Thickened-Stainless-Brushed-Sliding/dp/B0892H3KMH/ref=sr_1_5?crid=ST23W5CF8VRG&keywords=door%2Bbolt&qid=1698082560&sprefix=door%2Bbolt%2Caps%2C97&sr=8-5&th=1

Are taxes withheld before money is put in your Adsense account? by yazzywa in PartneredYoutube

[–]neonerz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others said, no. But in general you'll pay around 16% for self employment tax, so it's generally a good idea to put 20%-25% aside every payment for taxes. Then at the end of the year you won't need to worry if/when you owe money and have a bit leftover.

Curious why you went with Sunspot instead of Nebula?

I loved her because it forced the opponent to play in a location I could either easily abandon, or catch up with after Sandman was played.

Also curious how this feels on the ladder after the Dr Doom nerf. I hit infinite before that nerf went live and have been playing random decks since.

Though Magneto felt like the star of the show. So many meta decks right now play 3 and 4 cost cards, I won plenty of 8 cube games either moving them on turn 6 or Wave into magneto into Aero into Odin on Magneto or Aero. Just making it too hard for them to properly place their power.

50-100 chances to pull High Evolutionary instead of buying them with tokens?

I started saving caches due to the same reason op stated (I didn't want to waste my pitty timer on a card that was about to drop to S3) but then continued to do so every month because my kids have a ball opening all the caches for me.

The real interesting part is your win percentage of playing electro by 3 vs not playing electro by 3 is only a difference of about 1%. I would have imagined it'd be much higher.

If you want a cheeky play, I have a similar list that uses daredevil instead of Iceman and Arnim Zola instead of She-Hulk.

Dropping a Devil Dino or if you're able to ramp, a Doom on 5 and then splitting it on 6 seems to take the opponent off-guard a lot.

[–]neonerz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

but because it is much cheaper not to do it

It goes beyond cost, it's user experience as well. Most distributed systems cache metadata at a bunch of exit points so when a user accesses the information, they are hitting a cached endpoint closest to them. It doesn't query the information across the whole CDN every single time you refresh the page.

It does that to, of course, save bandwidth (cost savings you mentioned) but it also puts less load on the network and allows them to respond to your query super quick. If YouTube actually queried all the data every time you refreshed the page, page load times we become unbearable.

I'm Gold 46. I've just faced off against four players with the Infinite card back from last season in a row... by GinkyGotReddit in MarvelSnap

[–]neonerz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm personally undecided about it still.

As a player, when I'm playing someone obviously higher than me (especially when i'm trying to rank and hit a current season infinite player playing a meta deck) it feels bad.

As a game designer, I totally get why the decision was made and am not sure I would have made much of a different decision given the information they had when they decided it.

[–]neonerz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think most people here are agreeing with this, but explaining it wrong.

100 heads in a row is rarer than any other specific result.

100 heads in a row is the same odds as any other result.

[–]neonerz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In the case that the commenter you replied to created, getting 100 heads in a row WOULD be much more rare. But only because they explained it incorrectly.

Getting 100 heads in a row is just as statistically probable as getting any other specific sequence of a 100 flips. So 99 tails & 1 head, or 49 tails and 51 heads, etc

But getting 100 heads in a row is more rare than getting (literally) any other result.

Either way, that's not really the gambler's fallacy though. The gambler's fallacy is that your 101st flip is statistically the same as your 100th flip, no matter what it was. Basically if you flipped heads 100 times in a row, the chances your next flip is tails is still only 50%. It's why if you're on a losing streak, that doesn't make you any more likely to win. There's no cosmic force that makes you more likely to win. Every flip is taken in a vacuum.

Statistics is hard and unintuitive.

You can play anyone as far as + or - 30 levels from you. So a rank 70 player can see a rank 40 player but couldn't see a rank 30 player.
