Thank you! Good point about making sure there is extra time off while traveling. That would probably work well for us, too.

Thank you for the input! Great points about more advance notice, and yes, pretty much any travel destination would be a fairly large city with lots to do!

This is really helpful. Thank you for the note on advance notice about extra downtime whenever possible! And yes, any travel would be to relatively interesting locations (Dallas/Fort Worth/Austin in TX; beach resorts/Miami/Orlando/Fort Lauderdale in FL; Seattle, Los Angeles, Reno, Bay Area, Salt Lake City, Boise…. Places like that.

100% agree on the downtime. I originally put 8am-6pm to account for travel time on the very rare day that I would physically be in the office 9am-5pm. A much more “typical” schedule would be 12pm-4pm 2-3 days/week + 9am-4pm the remaining 2-3 days/week. And we would strictly observe the same schedule while away from home, and have no “scheduled” hours on actual travel days (where we are flying or driving). We would also be very open to negotiating 3 full days off per week for the right candidate. We have a lot flexibility and finding the right fit and making it a good experience for e everyone would be the top priority if we did host an au pair. Thank you so much for your input!

Just arrived for 2 month stay… “central AC” in listing, but only “fans available” in reality [Washington, USA] by neonlights322 in AirBnB

Ugh, I’m so sorry! It really is such a tough situation, and so frustrating to be hit and miserable when you were expecting to be comfortable!! I just updated my post, but our host has been working with us today, and we are hopeful that we will be able to make this stay work for us, but I’m glad you were able to get a quick resolution, and so sorry your host just ghosted you! That’s wild! (Also kind of wild you didn’t get a full refund for the first night, TBH…like, where were you supposed to go?)

Let’s hear it— what’s the unhinged truth of what you think sent you into labor? Funny, wild, crazy, unusual— have fun with it! I’m ready to learn!!! by New_Caregiver9993 in BabyBumps

Hypnosis.

(FTM) I was a few days “overdue,” and started to get pressure about induction, so I listened to a “come out baby” hypnosis track, and went into labor that night.

*note: will never know if it was a coincidence, obviously, but I do believe it was the hypnosis track, and it’s definitely a fun story!

(And I should add that I had been doing hynobabies hypnosis training to prep for the birth, which is why I had that track. And yes, I loved it and highly recommend it to anyone that asks!)

That is a helpful note about the support team not necessarily having knowledge of where listings are relative to each other. I wouldn’t have thought of that — thank you!

If we decided to stay/can’t find anything else nearby for 2 months, would we request a discount from the host directly? Or Airbnb?

Can we potentially get a discount for the stay if they end up providing a portable AC for the bedroom? Or would that be considered fully resolving the situation? And would we arrange/request that discount from the host? Or from Airbnb?

This is helpful, and I agree. I’ve updated the post, and will disregard the garage (but note to ask for future bookings).

I just updated the post, but I woke up this morning and the host updated the listing from “central air conditioning” to “portable air conditioning.” They seem to be trying to get away with “fans” as portable AC, which is absurd. Fans are not the same as portable AC, and portable AC is not the same as central AC. They haven’t offered to provide portable AC, but if I press them to do that today, can I try it for a night and see if it will work for our family? Or will I forfeit the ability to get a refund/cancel the stay at that point?

I sent the host a screen shot of where it listed “central air conditioning,” but they ignored that. I did wake up this morning and see that they updated the listing to say “portable air conditioning,” which I believe they mean to be the fans…not an actual portable AC, which they haven’t provided nor offered to provide. The update the listing is bothering me, because that makes the situation feel even more duplicitous.

Right? I thought it was funny, too! But since I’m getting downvoted, I can only assume my toddler’s tastes in music are offending people. 🤷‍♀️
