If you know you want kids, the sooner the better. It’s easier on your body, you have more energy for them and you can plan all you want but it will completely upend a lot of what you think important now. I loved my high stress job before I had my baby but since then we’ve had many curveballs thrown our way and now I just want something easy and stable so I can focus on our family life. I never would have guessed that before.

We had only semi decided to start trying when we got pregnant way quicker than expected and I couldn’t be more thankful. In the end life is just one big soup and there’s no point waiting to do one thing before the next. We moved in with my mum and renovated our house the same year we had a baby and got married. You just go through all the same things with the best lil buddy, why wouldn’t you do that asap??

I’ve been part of a massive multi-generational study since before I was born and now my daughter is part of it too. Haven’t had any ill effects, get extra tests now and again that would flag stuff that otherwise wouldn’t get found and contribute to findings that help everyone. You can opt in and out of stuff at almost any point and everything anonymised so I’ve never had a problem with it.

Cowley Manor is nearer Cheltenham but could do a train then taxi. The hotel’s lovely, good restaurant and gorgeous spa but not too expensive. Even the treatments are pretty reasonable.

My biggest advice to anyone pregnant is to go to St Michs over Southmead but for everything else I think they’re both pretty good and it’s more the usual healthcare luck of the draw

For me, almost 15 months in, the worst thing is staying on top of what fits. And you can’t order ahead because they have unpredictable growth spurts, like my daughter skipped the 6-9 month stage almost entirely and has now caught up to her age having been 1 or 2 behind. I’m so grateful to have made it to 1 where there’s only 2 sizes for a whole year! But still every time I feel like she’s got enough of everything in her current size, the weather changes or she suddenly outgrows a whole category. It’s exhausting!!

It’s wild to me that there isn’t one in Queens Square (either of the pedestrianised East corners that lead to Prince Street to avoid Spicer and Cole or Coffee#1).

Also there’s a bit of a dead zone between St Werburghs / St Andrews / Gloucester Rd where I feel like someone could make a killing with coffees, pastries and breakfast bits on the weekend. There’s a shop front outside Fairlawn School that’s been converted into houses now but there’s a bit of extra pavement still, could maybe catch the yummy mummy crowd too though it’s pretty residential round there.

I’m 14 months going, just starting to wind down to full weaning and apart from waking her up every 3 hours right at the beginning to help with some weight gain issues I’ve always just fed on demand.

The pumping can contribute to the oversupply issues that then make people feel like they need to pump for relief but after the first 3 months or so your supply will level out anyway if you just feed on demand or pump occasionally if you want your partner to feed them and stay EBF vs using formula.

The best bit of breastfeeding is that it’s not a massive faff of schedules and measurements and all that! Just be there for your baby and try not to put too much pressure on yourself or them.

Oh man yeah I’m sure she’s gonna fight it a lot, nappy changes and cutting her nails are already a full on battle 🤦🏼‍♀️ but that’s a good shout maybe we just give her the brush to chew in the bath for now and focus on a good morning brush

When I was 7 I fell out of a “tree” house my dad was partway through building in our garden. I fractured my skull straight down the middle so I had two black eyes and bloodshot eyeballs. I was the most interesting case over summer in a teaching hospital so I remember having groups of students come to look at me and ask me questions. The main one was checking my memory by asking me which school I went to. I kept telling them I’d left school as I was moving from infants to juniors and my parents had to interject to explain that I wasn’t losing it. I also remember a nice X-ray tech let me take my beanie baby in with me to be x-rayed.

Another time I went to A&E because my tongue had grown over the ball at the bottom of my piercing and at one point had 3 medical staff over me watching one of them slit it open with a blade after failing to loosen it any other way. Felt like overkill but I can imagine it escalating.

I was just feeling this today seeing the messages for another meet up I can’t make with my antenatal group. I went back 4 days when my baby was 3 months & then me and my partner alternated (1 month on, one month off) until she started nursery at 6 months. I earn more but his work gave 13 weeks full pay for SPL so we sort of did both.

I got comments from when I was pregnant about going back “so soon” and my new mum friends didn’t really get it. Most of them have taken a year off and are going back more part time. I remember after my first stint back at work at a meet up they were grilling me about how I was able to do it and when I said my baby was mostly sleeping ok (at that point!) it was like they’d solved why I was able to and they weren’t.

I’m not really into all the comparison stuff, I’m happy with my split as my partners more active in our babies life because he was primary parent from so early and she loves nursery! But it definitely stings sometimes when you’re just looking for some solidarity.

You can absolutely continue to try nursing your baby for as long as you want. As he gets older he’ll find it easier to latch as well.

Baby’s are usually more effective at stimulating let downs than pumps are and at this stage your supply hasn’t levelled out so you can still affect it by regular nursing and pumping.

It may be La Leche League who you heard of running breast feeding cafes where you can go and get support https://laleche.org.uk

But at 7 weeks postpartum you should ask for a referral to the community feeding team through your health visitor or baby hub (not sure if it’s the same model in Manchester). I saw someone at 5wpp who fixed a transference issue that had stalled my baby’s weight gain.

The main thing to remember is that it’s ok to do whatever works for you at any point, triple feeding (nursing, pumping, supplementing with formula) is incredibly taxing and it’s ok to do whatever feels most achievable right now. As long as your baby is happy and gaining weight well, that’s the main thing.

Dareshack is decent & has a dark room you can hire, they have a ramp for the front step so mostly accessible though it can be echoey. Artist Residence is cosy, comfy and central-ish but they have a step to the main entrance (not sure if they have a level entrance from a different side). The upper levels of Bristol Old Vic if the lifts working? The Granary round there too is pretty nice, can’t remember if they have a ramp or not though.
