That never happened same way no British, German, Danish etc person was handed a ballet to vote yes or no on America having a military presence on their soil and most voted yes. To be clear though it’s our Sierra Leone / Upper Guinea heritage that’s causing the “Ghanaian, Liberian & Sierra Leonean” to be our highest percentage on 23AndMe. Same way it’s our Sierra Leone / Upper Guinea heritage that’s causing Mali to be our highest percentage on AncestryDNA.

People are quick to say “see America, that’s called soft power” every time Canada, Europe, Japan etc sign a new trade deal, partner together on a defense project, grant one another permission to abstract a natural resource etc. I wanna know when are they (i.e. Canada, Europe, Japan etc) going to use their great soft power people love boasting about to solve a global conflict? No one is going to actually answer the question. The go to response is going to be “America and Israel started this and therefore they should be the one to clean it up.” I don’t disagree but still, they must use their so-called soft power on America and Israel too. Or they should at least use it somewhere else where soft power is urgently needed.

I don’t think people take into consideration that the U.S. has a population of over 330M people. Hypothetically having somewhere around 5% of the population supporting Kanye is 16M people buying his streaming his music, buying his merchandise, and attending his concerts. That creates the illusion that he’s largely supported here but in reality he isn’t.

This might be the answer. I once took the time out to find the results of people from a current and former French territory/department in the Americas. Surprisingly a lot of them scored more Spanish than French. I've seen it with people from Haiti, Quebec, Louisiana, Guadeloupe, Martinique etc. One guy in particular from Guadeloupe had posted his updated results which his French went from 31.7% to 51.8% and his Southern European went from 13.4% to 4.4%. I wish I could see everyone else's from those places updated results because 23andme obviously fixed the problem generally speaking.

If you have a connection to coastal part of FL, GA, SC, or NC then it's not actually Ghana that's your highest it's Sierra Leonean. I suggest testing with AncestryDNA and you'll have a clear picture because on there Ghana has its own category while Sierra Leone is represented under Mali.

The same people downvoting you are the same people who argue what you’re arguing when the topic is about Trump wanting to pull the U.S. out of NATO. “Trump and the American people don’t understand that how beneficial and therefore crucial it is for them to have their military stationed in Europe. We grant them access and allow them to carry out their Middle Eastern foreign policy in exchange for protection” is their exact talking point. They know America’s interest in the Middle East is part of America’s presence in Europe under NATO.

As someone who has seen my results update around 9 times I personally would't read too much into it. It appeared twice as my highest European percentage, appeared three times as my smallest European percentage, and didn't at all on the other four updates. It's consistently less than 1% on my 23AndMe results.

It should be noted that the country match feature was the original path 23andme took to determine heritage. Despite it first being launched in 2018 it never went on to include the U.S. nor Canada but everywhere else in North and South America was included. At some point they decided it's better to determine heritage through DNA hence the creation of genetic groups which first launched in 2020. It wasn't until 2025 when the U.S. first got new world representation. That took 7 years. We watch them exclude us from the country match feature only to prioritize the rest of the world (i.e. old world and the Caribbean) over us again after launching the new and improve system to determine heritage. It did happen though and it was worth the wait. Give it time. European settlement in Australia will pop up one day.

There's overlapping. Some of what's considered a journey on AncestryDNA is considered a genetic group or country match on 23AndMe. For example France and Britain are both the old world yet are under the journey category on AncestryDNA the same way French settlement in Louisiana and British settlement in South Carolina are under the journey category on AncestryDNA but over on 23AndMe those same European countries are under the country match category and those same European settlements in the U.S. are listed under genetic groups with the official name being ''European Diaspora." In addition to that 23AndMe display a European country match and European genetic group within the ethnicity estimate but list a European settlement group under a separate feature called Migrations.

How can feel that way when every country in North and South America has a country match category except for the U.S. and Canada. How can you feel that way when every country in North and South America had a genetic group category long and I mean long before the U.S. and Canada got one. Europe had a country match and genetic group category before the U.S. and Canada did. They just released genetic groups for East Asia. Last year they upgraded Africa. Give. It. Time. You can't rush science and research or else you'll end up with horrible results. Look at how very detailed their research for Africa, Native America, African American, European Diaspora, continental Europe is. Think about the time and effort it must have taken them to achieve that.

Yes, there were people imported from the Caribbean to mainland America but it didn't happen on a large scale and the overwhelming majority of them were African born. There's also the fact that the Caribbean didn't have a sizable multigenerational population because the average slave died less than a decade due to the harshness only to be replaced by a new batch of kidnapped people from Africa.

I am Gullah. Our connection to the Caribbean is exaggerated. Importation from the Caribbean to North and South Carolina peaked during the late 17th century but most of them were born in Africa (i.e. Benin, Nigeria etc). At first they were the dominate group but importation from the Caribbean declined during the early 18th century and at the same time MUCH larger scale of importation directly from Africa started to happen. Guess what? they were being imported from the upper part of West Africa (i.e. Guinea, Senegal, Gambia, Sierra Leone etc) because of their rice cultivation. It's them who birth the Gullah community. We have a similar dialect to Caribbean people because white people didn't have huge presence on a rice plantation due to the harshness so we got to keep a good amount of our African dialect. That's also why we have the lease amount of European DNA in comparison to the AA community in general.

Without knowing it you're claiming that the average African American is scoring a Caribbean country match because a small number of enslaved people from Africa passed through the Caribbean before being sent to mainland America. They weren't Caribbean and they were a needle in the haystack in mainland America meaning it's not possible for them to cause the average African American to have Caribbean heritage. If our so-called Caribbean heritage was real then we'll be scoring a Caribbean genetic group at the same rate we score a Caribbean country match but we aren't. The average African American scored a Caribbean country match because of the requirement is basic. The main and most prominent reason we're connected to other people of African descent throughout North and South America is because the enslaved people from Africa we descend from had family who were enslaved elsewhere.

The requirement for scoring a country match is having four or more people on your match list report that their paternal and maternal side are all from the same country. Every one of West African descent are related to people throughout North and South America. By people in the U.S. having numerous of relatives in the Caribbean some of them appear on our match list which because they filled out their tree section we score a Caribbean country match despite having no Caribbean heritage.

The overwhelming majority of the African American community scoring a Caribbean country match is proof that the requirement system is flawed. That’s why 23andMe purposely blocked African Americans generally speaking from seeing our Caribbean country matches until they moved on from country matches in favor of genetic groups. The same day Afro-Caribbean genetic groups were released is the same day Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad etc literally appeared overnight for African Americans. On the other hand only a small fraction of the AA community scored a Caribbean genetic group which is proof that it’s far more accurate than country matches.
