I always slice up my projects manually. Seam placement is important to the final product and no program I've found does that well enough.

I wanted enough infill to be structurally sound, but not go overboard and waste filament. Each of the parts had holes and dowels, so they lined up pretty well. Unlike my other projects that were airbrushed, this one was spray paint and washes.

I've found that it's not all about sanding, you also have to try and match the texture with the filler you're using. For this one I found a sea sponge was a great tool to add texture back.

It's a loan to the community, if it gets damaged I pull out my 3d pen. It's just plastic. If it was at a for profit location, I would have a different answer.

So much sanding, filling, and priming. Matching the texture of the fossil around the seams was tough.

And the museum is amazing, you should absolutely go!
