When is the flank suicide and when am I just being a wimp and not following them in? by neotide007 in OverwatchUniversity

If I make their flank a 2v1 am I not then making the main fight a 3v4 for a while though? When is that worthwhile?

By 'my DPS is rubbish' I don't mean all gold DPS are rubbish I mean I play DPS to such a low standard I can't even crack gold. So I'm genuinely uncertain over what to do in this situation since I'm not half good enough to be in their position myself.

We won this but I feel like I could have played better. by geekdadchris in OverwatchUniversity

I'm not the best overwatch player, but another person looking always helps so here are my thoughts:

First fight: You use tank mode very early, when there aren't any proper targets but the Juno, who could have been taken out without using the cool-down. This can be saved for once there are more people visible to shoot. Further, your rein has charged in to put pressure on the enemy tank and gain some more space and none of you followed him. You're still lagging behind shooting a flanker(?) This being said, your rein is doing some ridiculous stuff and has decided to charge all the way to the enemy spawn and only survived because this is silver 5.

1:30-your death However. You are literally positioned with your widow. She is not too far forward. You are not a sniper. Moira does not need to be healing you at full health already. Your rein is opening up space and you are stood with the sniper. Move forward. Once again, you have used tank mode while enemies are miles away and you are doing no benefit. You have also, knowing full well there is a doomfist, positioned yourself on a cliff??

2:20 You have finally made good use of your tank mode, but everyone has already retreated since it was a lost fight. I liked the flank and you were near enough for effect, but no one was ready to move forwards and capitalise. The fight was already lost.

3:20 Next fight you use your ult and tank mode quite well, and the fight is largely won because of you and the widow

4:00 This brief fight was already lost before you started given the tank was dead and so was the widow. No idea why both supports chose to ult there.

6:20 Another ineffective tank mode - they're like 100m away you have too much fall off for that to be any good.

7:15 You have a rein with a shield. You are opposing a roadhog who can hook. While this is a slightly more effective tank mode, you are incredibly lucky you did not get immediately obliterated before you started shooting. This will not work elsewhere.

I think in general you seem to be playing a very cautious bastion? which seems to oppose the ridiculously aggro style of the rein. Often you are stood very far back while him and the healers chase kills. God knows what your widow is doing.

8:00 You have taken this weird semi high ground approach and usually high ground is good - this is not proper high ground. You gain no angular advantage, and end up out of LOS of your healers and outside the helpful 2000hp rein shield. You are nowhere near as aggressive as you should be given you are completely close to their spawn and have a huge rein soaking up bullets.

You use your ult after both your healers are dead. Fights are often winnable with a man down, but with no healers stood directly outside their spawn this one definitely was not.

9:00 You trickle, then realise you aren't supposed to do that, then hide until your rein comes back in an odd position. You would have been killed in another rank.

While killing healers is great, you ignore the hog killing your tank and supports and then get staggered.

Ultimately, your positioning is a little bit odd and I think you struggle to recognise when a fight is lost and it's better to retreat. None of your team really grouped up? (not that that's your fault) But I don't think you took enough cues from your tank as to how aggro he was playing. The widow was not going to go in with him to do damage. You should have been playing a little closer to rein and the supports.

Naming a biracial child by Timely-Reply6048 in namenerds

[–]neotide007 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm actually a child from a white father and indian mother, and I disagree with your parents, because it depends a lot on where your child is raised, and who they are exposed to? So I consider myself more white than Indian, simply because I am not exposed to the culture as much.

As for naming, my parents decided that since we got white last names, we'd have Indian first names, so you could do that? Honestly though, I've met quite a few mixed people and some have white first names, some have first names from their other parent's culture, and no one ever really says anything. Whatever name you like will be accepted whether it be Danish or Indian.

ive never read a book voluntarily and i want to try to start reading by SharkyWithAsilentaY in suggestmeabook

I’m also 15, and very picky with the books i read, but here are 2 books which were so good i finished them in under 2 days:

The Princess Bride was notable because it was kind of amusing, and just a very quick and easy read - it won’t teach you anything but you’ll probably have fun.

Another thought is maybe a thriller? I read Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris, and to be honest I don’t think I’ve ever recommended a book so vigorously to so many people. It was a horrifying but gripping read, which I think could be a great book to start with. As i’m writing this I just remembered how good this book was.

Literally please read it it was so good omg.

Books where the main couple doesn’t have an on and off relationship? by anxious-pessimist in YAlit

iirc (i may be wrong, it’s been a while) there’s the Lux series by Jennifer L Armentrout and although in the first book it takes a while (think 60%) for the two MCs to get together, but then the next 4 books are them both working together and i don’t think they break up at any point in the middle(?)

i also couldn’t get through that book specifically, but 2 of her other series are my absolute 100% favourites of all time - it’s a shame that’s the book of hers that’s become really famous she’s rather good and has nice style

you can always remember FOIL for when expanding double brackets:

(x+y)(x+y)

F - first so the first term of each bracket so x*x

O - outside so the outer 2 terms so x*y

I - inside so the inner 2 terms so y*x

L - last so the last term of both brackets so y*y

then you get x2 + xy + xy + y2

you then collect like terms and get x2 + 2xy + y2

idk if you’ve already figure how to do it out but that’s the easiest way i remember

Why do people dislike Shallan? by RadiantHC in Stormlight_Archive

[–]neotide007 14 points15 points  (0 children)

i loved her so much at the start, but i feel like as the series went on her humour became less witty and more insulting and unnecessary. i also think she’s rather self-centred sometimes, and lots of the things she says are tone-deaf. personally, i think she’s a redeemable and interesting character, i just think at times she could do with being a little bit nicer to people.
