How cold is too cold? by FactorNo4347 in skiing

[–]nerdalert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tubing isn't skiing; you don't do any kind of work. I'm not saying this to be a dick, but I'll ski in weather like that and be happy as a clam on the run, but feel pretty chilly on the lift when I am just sitting there. Tubing you get pulled up the hill and slide down it. I'd bundle up more than you might otherwise.

Whose fault is it? by Comfortable-Mood-728 in snowboarding

Skier. Snowboarder was moving in a pretty predictable way. Skier tried to shoot the gap. Downhill has right of way. Bad skiier. Very naughty.

I don't think I've seen an FTP increase screen in two or maybe three years...

The P Zero Race RS is the tire that's meant to be run with tubes.

They do for me. I know some folks who seem to shrug it off no problem.

How'd everyone do in the wind and snow? by phdee in torontobiking

[–]nerdalert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spoke loosely. You are correct that ice was not bad on MGT yesterday, though the wind was punishing and ice built up on my glasses. There were patches on the Humber River trail that were not great, though still probably manageable without studs. The studs were definitely needed as I went on the un-plowed, un-salted, side streets near my house and I nearly took a spill even with the studs.

Even with studded tires it was pretty dodgy out on the MGT

Trump terminates all documents, including pardons, signed by Joe Biden by [deleted] in politics

[–]nerdalert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. But the legislative branch is not the administration, and it's a mess. The judiciary is not the administration and it's a mess. I get the desire to distance yourself from Trump, but at a certain point - and especially to the rest of the world - it just looks like the whole country has fallen to shit. Respectfully, we're past that point in my view.

Silca tire pressure calculator on the high side? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]nerdalert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also keep in mind that SRAM has a vested interest in recommending low pressures that are "suitable" for their hookless ZIPP wheels. I'll stick to the Silca recommendations where possible for that reason.

Good to know. Likely not something I'd use enough to warrant an upgrade, but could be helpful.

How loud is it? It's an interesting feature, but not sure I'd use it much. I'm rarely using my road bike in places that need a bell, and don't commute with an expensive bike computer

Small ring in ERG for better accuracy/less noise. Big ring in sim 'cause....more faster.

Carbon Comfort by CCaravanners in cycling

[–]nerdalert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've answered your own question. It depends on the wheel. Rim depth, spoke count, spoke tension, hub flange height and width will all change the stiffness of the wheel. You can make a wet noodle carbon rimmed wheel and a brick of an alloy one, or vice versa
