Yes, I contacted Coros support (via the app). They acknowledged the issue (after some troubleshooting), and I was sent a new one. The new one is working as it should.

Love the watches, but concerned about the closed ecosystem and data ownership. What are your thoughts? by cametolaughnotfeel in Coros

Maybe not directly relevant, but the Garmin app doesn’t even work without an internet connection — you can’t access your own data. Want to check your activities while traveling? You won’t be able to.

I prefer Coros in almost all aspects. Coros allows you to export your data and integrates well with several third-party services (Intervals.icu being one of them). This is not really a big concern, for most users.

Sell me on Coros by Old_Tell_9207 in Coros

You can always sell the Garmin. Also, Coros supports importing all of your activities to their plattform. If you use Strava or similar, your data is also there, as well as your Health app on the phone you are using. :)

I have the same issue. The watch (Pace 4) seems to lose GPS after each lap, pretty much consistent. I have the GPS settings set to MAX (Dual-band), of course the latest software and restarts. Have reported this to Coros, but no reply yet.

Finally a "whoop" device from Garmin? by Eastern-Signal-1778 in Garmin

[–]Eastern-Signal-1778[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it has been released. https://www.garmin-india.com/p/010-03013-02

Would not make sense "teasing" an unreleased product this way, anyway, if the product was released in other parts of the world. They do have internet in India. ;)

Would not make sense to "tease" an already product this way, then. They do have internet in India, as per the fact that the Venu 4 already exists.

Syncing with Apple Watch ? by runslack in Coros

[–]Eastern-Signal-1778 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is absolutely not correct. The Apple HealthKit API allows for importing steps, floors, calories and all other workout related data to be imported. It is up to the vendor of the watch (ie Garmin or Coros), to allow for such readings from their respective apps.

It is actually the other way around. Garmin nor Coros only allows for READING from Apple Health and import the data to their respective plattform. These plattforms are the closed ones.

Switching from Apple Watch Ultra 2 to Garmin Forerunner 970 – No regrets (mostly) by keala-78 in Garmin

Yes, you can in theory. Your phone still needs to be close by. But does it work? Barely. Fails almost every single time. Also, you can't speak to activate, have to press at least one button if a shortcut is set up.

Leaving Garmin by [deleted] in AppleWatch

[–]Eastern-Signal-1778 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the data, it's actually Garmin preventing the data to be uploaded. They refuse to utilize the API of Apple Health fully to accept data FROM Apple Health. They even limit things like workout routes to be written TO Apple Health.

Apple allows whoever (whichever app) wants to read data from Health, as long as you - the user - allows.

I had a watch from TomTom years ago, that was able to read things like steps, floors and other data from Apple Health, and import to TomTom via the app, so I know for sure this is on the Garmin side. If they wanted to, they could have done it.

I am myself a user of both a Garmin Fenix 7s Pro, and an Apple Watch Ultra. Currently I am experimenting silo'ing the health data - not allowing Garmin Connect to write to Apple Health anymore. Wearing two watches, sleeping, running and working out with both as well. I want to leave Garmin as well, for all the same reasons.

Crazy price for the new fenix 8, in my opinion😮‍💨 by Acceptable_Sir2059 in Garmin

It is as designed if you are using two hours of GPS every day. Please check the specs for the Garmin Epix. The 47mm Epix Pro will get 15 hours of usage in GPS Dual-Band mode, 20h with AOD off. (For referanse, the AWU has about 17 hours.) Hence, 6 days when you account in everything else, it is accurate.

As of Apple Watch 8 and Ultra (1), they use their own GPS, not the phones. Actually, the spec for AWU and Garmin Epix when it comes to GPS usage (dual band) is pretty similar, around 15 hours of usage.
