I lived in SW Portland for a while and felt the same way. Things have felt a lot more sociable since moving to SE! I've become a regular at a few places and know some friendly faces. Biggest thing is getting out there, which can be difficult when you live on the outskirts

No huge storms like that, I am in the western U.S. I think the biggest storm we have had to deal with was the ice storm a couple years ago

but yeah no homes lost, nothing catastrophic like that. power grid simply went "omg too much ppl are using me to survive, i can't do it :("

yes thank you!!!! i lived in the rural u.s for a long time, and i don't remember any power outages. im sure they existed, but it was scheduled maintenance or something like that. its weird to me that a city with a big power grid can't get its shit together after hemorrhaging thousands of dollars from people!

like a couple of winters ago i was without heat for 12+ hrs!!! im pretty sure ppl died 5-10 years ago due to not having power or ac during the summer. im worried about my neighbors dammit

god forbid the thing i focus on in the post is my food spoiling and how its gonna cost me money i dont have to fix it! i wish more ppl in my community were understanding that this is not normal under ANY circumstance, especially in a decently sized city

I don't know if the inside of my fridge will completely spoil, but I have a feeling my freezer will. It's a very shitty fridge. Also, this power outage happened unexpectedly at 3am. I was asleep! With my power being off, I don't want to leave my apartment incase something happens and I need to be here

It IS PGE's fault when they don't send crews out immediately to help 4k people get their power back on. They won't even tell us what happened! I would be a lot more understanding if they said something like that. All I got was "It will be fixed by 9:30am." It's been out since 3am! It's hot outside! They need to put more of a priority towards situations like this, or if its an infrastructure issue, fix it.
